"save time and just get this one", I had to buy this to pass a transcribing class in college. Helped me relearn after typing by the "hunt and peck" method for 30 years. Tried other software, only this one did the trick.

"Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Deluxe 16", This is an excellent product to learn how to type using the computer's standard keyboard, or the keys on the number pad. It is intuitive; after each set of lessons it determines what your weak areas are and creates lessons to firm up accuracy and speed in the keys you need to practice on. In addition this deluxe edition provides important videos on ergonomics and exercises. At any point you can view your word per minute speed and your accuracy. If you already have learned to type but need to increase your words per minutes, a initial test is provided to learn your present ability and then starts the lessons to fit where you are and need to go. You can set a goal and periodically see your progress. It has games that are pretty muched geared to children, but can be turned off. The background music was annoying but could be turned off also. After using the stand alone software I ordered the network version and use Mavis Beacon for a computer keyboarding class. My adult students are doing well with it, each proceeding at their own rates and levels. Because the price is affordable, I encourage my typing students to purchase the software and place on their home computers to keep up their practice and progress in speed and accuracy.

"Works GREAT on XP S2 ", We got this to teach our 11 year old to type. Mavis Beacon 16 has been great for him, it's gotten my typing-phobic husband to learn to type and I've brushed up my skills considerably. We've had it on two PCs and a laptop - all with XP S2 and it has always worked perfectly. I do not understand what more anyone could want! Highly recommended.

"Mavis Beacon", This program still holds up as a standard for typing tutors. I always rely on it for my employees that need to improve their typing skills.

I had "Typing Tutor" software but it wasn't improving my speed nor accuracy. Just by luck I found this software product on the Net, and bought the Pro Trainer. It is downloadable and for little extra, you can get a hard copy, which I do recommend buying.

The software first tests you, and then focuses on your weaknesses through a variety of exercises. There are also games to play to better your typing skill.

I increased my speed and accuracy by 10 points, which at the time was a much-needed skill for me. I never tried this product, so I really have no rating. Unfortunately I am unable to post unless I rate it first. I gave it 1 star because per the other reviews below, it obviously is not compatible to XP, and Typing Master is.

Pro Trainer is more expensive but worth it if you really want results. There is a cheaper version for about the same price as what was paid for this product.

"Mavis Beacon on Mac OS X", I originally used Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 8 on a PC Windows 98. Loved it. This was back when MB was with Mind Spring. Simply Flawless.

Now with Broderbund as MB Teaches Typing Deluxe 16 on an iMac G5 running OS X is a so so product for graphics. Actually pooh, pooh.

It works OK as a typing teaching tool. I recently got to a lesson and got a fatal error requiring me to Force Quit the program and start over. It went back to the same lesson and required another Force Quit.

Broderbund's website doesn't have any support. No updates for the S/W.

So, would I buy this again. Yeah, cause this is all that I know for teaching typing. If you can buy this for around $10ish plus shipping and handling like I did then OK.

"They were right - not XP compatible", Even after reading about issues with XP from other reviewers, I decided to go with Mavis Beacon simply because the competing typing software is even worse. I also could not believe that Broderbund would be this outdated - or misleading.

Wrong. This product will not install under Windows XP SP2. AutoPlay brings up an unresponsive installer, prompting an error report every time. The Start > Run command (recommended by the install instructions) results in absolutely nothing.

So I installed it on my aging Windows ME system, and it ran without a problem.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 16 Deluxe is probably the only thing Windows ME can do better than XP.

"Stay away from Broderbund software", I wish I could give them zero stars.

Broderbund pulled support for software I owned only 2 years after it was released.

I was unable to install it because it required internet registration which was no longer supported. To solve the problem, they offered to SELL me a different software title.

They must have thought I was stupid. They expected me to give them more money???

This company has second rate software and third rate customer service. Do not buy anything from them.

"Poor design", Clearly, Broderbund always sinks their budget into marketing, not software development. What do you end up with? Vaporware.

Do not pay over $19 and it should be worth the money.
