Works fantastic. Plug in the power, rca (yellow-red-white)video/audio in from your DVD player, and Coax output to your TV. There is a Coax input for another source, such as a satellite box, cable box, or regular cable. It only comes on when a video signal is present.

It also has a S-Video input on it however, when I did this I noticed considerable interference on both channel 3 and 4. So just save your time and hook up via Yellow-Red-White RCA cables from whatever you are trying to use.

So due to the S-Video interference issue I am giving it 4 stars. It's a solid buy and I would highly recommend this purchase.

"I must have gotten a faulty unit"
I have a GE TV with a coax input and a Philips DVD player with RCA and S-video outputs, so I needed an RF modulator to make the transition between the two. I purchased this unit and despite its good reviews, it was a huge disappointment. When the unit switched over to the DVD signal, I got a noisy pattern across the screen (a series of horizontal lines) that moved in varying speeds. If I picked the modulator up off the DVD housing, the noise got worse. Also, it appeared that the DVD picture was desaturated and fuzzy. My non-technical wife said it looked "drab."

I couldn't believe that this was typical of RF modulators (and that people would settle for such poor quality), but instead of exchanging the unit I decided to try the GE AV23298 VIDEO CONVERTER & ULTRA PROGRADEô RF MODULATOR, and it's fantastic. No lines, beautiful colors. The only advantage the Philips has is that the LED status light comes on only when the unit is active, vs. all the time like the GE unit.

I may have gotten a bad unit, but this one just didn't work out for me.

I have had it for 3 weeks now and it has worked great! Wonderful product for hooking up anything with a red/white/yellow output or s-video into an old tv with only a coax on it.

"RF Modulator"
I purchased this for my son, since his old TV had broken. The TV had no RCA, (red, yellow, white) plugs for DVD, etc. hookup. The setup is pretty straigh forward and simple. We have had no problems with this unit. The television signal is not degraded in any way, so the picture on the screen is clear and bright.
