Others say...
"The good reviews must be by shills; mine is junk." Completely unreliable. Printing is hit and miss. More miss than hit. And I need reliability. EVERY print job comes back with a "failed to print" message, whether it prints or not. When jobs do go through they are agonizingly slow. If I owned a gun I'd use it for target practice; it's that aggravating.
Installing the printer driver on the remote computers is a pain - do it over and over until it decides the time is right. It was loaded and kind'a working on one laptop, but has simply stopped and won't be reloaded. Called Netgear about a different piece of equipment and the experience was so bad I refuse to call them again. All the guy could say was it's 'software and the software is out of warranty.' I didn't fight 'em; trashed it and bought Linksys. Now I'm going to trash this "thing" and see what Linksys has for print servers. Do NOT waste your money.
"100% Recomended!!" No problems! Took about 15 min. to set up to my Samsung 300 Color lazer printer on my network netgear router. Highly recomended. Thanks a lot.
"This whole thing was pretty much a "bust"!" Never have got this product to work. No documentation sent with product. Website for Netgear was confusing, as two different products are posted and there are no markings on the delivered product to tell me which product I have. Could not get telephone support from Netgear due to serial # being marked through due to reconditioned product. This whole thing was pretty much a "bust"!
"Finally One That Works" After driving myself crazy with the Linksys, I finally found a print server that works with my Epson R280. The setup was a piece of cake.
"Bad product, poor customer service" I have worked with PCs since 1985 and I could not get this print server to work after many hours of trying. There is no point in explaining my experience, it simply should not be this difficult

What our customer's say!
"easy network solution", I spent 6 hours trying to share my printer attached via USB to my vista machine with other XP systems on my home network. I tried EVERYTHING - allowing ports, setting security, sharing options. I was at wits end! I broke down and bought the print server. 15 min of install and all machines can print! I wish I could get my 6 hours back.
Install on the first machine was easy. Directions for install on other machines took a little more time to figure out. Basically, add a network printer on your other machines and carry around the printer driver CD with you so it will have the proper drivers for your printer.
The best upside, now the PC which used to host the printer can sleep and not affect the other computers. Downside? I can no longer see ink level status (big woop!).
Now I can go off and ditch the "part-time-IT-cause-no-one-else-in-the-house-can-do-it" hat and do stuff I enjoy.
"works fine, don't install the netgear software", -this product works great with a Samsung ML-2510 laser printer. even complex graphics, multi-page jobs sail through.
I uninstalled the Netgear software on the PC - you don't need it and it only slows stuff down. The only reason you would want that software is if you can't do the alternate method.
Here's the tip: 1-you have to know the address your router assigned to the ps121. you use your web browser to configure the ps121 to a fixed IP address. you will need to read the manual for the password to log in to the server. 2-you will have to create a TCP/IP printer port, either by adding a new network printer, or by adding a new port to your existing printer.
It took about 5 minutes per pc to set up and run a test print with this method.
For the Vista Laptop that connected via wireless to the WLAN, I used the add printer function, selected network printer, typed in the IP address, and Vista found the correct printer driver and installed it.
"Poor Supporting Software and Lack Of Technical Support", For the price, the PS121v2 is a good deal. The hardware works as expected but the supporting software may give you a USB error. And if you get this error, NetGear support may have you going in circles. I am running two machines - XP Pro and Vista. The printer is an all-in-one. The PS121v2 requires you install it's client software on each machine - no problem. And to access the non-printer functions (e.g. scan, fax,...), the user reserves the printer (locks access) through this software - no problem for me but possible annoyance for others. But on Windows Vista the software installation produced errors. The software still ran but never allowed me to reserve the printer. And after a week of playing e-mail tag with NetGear, I washed my hands of this device. I gave it away and got a printer with ethernet/wifi built-in.
"netgear", The item was delivered as stated and is working as is supposed to.
I would deal with the company again when needing that kind of items.
I give high rating. Richard
"Total garbage", I have a degree in computer science and have been working with networks since the days of the Arpanet so I know something about this stuff. After many hours of trying to get this unit installed, I just gave up in disgust. I never was able to get it to work. This is a V1 unit - maybe the V2 is better - it sure can't be any worse. And Netgear's customer "support" is just a joke. Save your money and buy a network-ready printer. This server is total junk. It's not even heavy enough to make a good paperweight. It might make a good firestarter though - in operation it gets almost too hot to touch. I rate it one star only because Amazon doesn't have an option for handing out negative stars.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Mac Users Beware of this Item.", Despite what it says on the side of the box and the manufacturer's web stie, this device is not Mac-compatible. While there are some "Mac Hacker" sites on the Internet that gave detailed instructions on how to force this device to work with the Mac OS, ultimately, I could not get it to work with my MacBook Pro and Canon S600. I returned it to get my money back.
"Netgear PS121 print server", It works great for printing. I would have given it 5 stars except that the fax and scan functions don't work with the Panasonic KXFLB811 I have attached to it from network PCs.
"Netgear Junk", Do not even bother buying this thing the software that comes with it is totally unreliable!
This thing is a total waste of time and money!
A one star rating for this thing is generous.
"Do Not Buy; Look for another print server", The setup was fairly straight forward and it did actually work, but barely. The print speed is MUCH slower than you will get when connected directly to your PC. As you can imagine the online tech support/FAQs were not helpful.
Things got worse from there.
Turns out that you need to 'reserve' the printer in order to print to it, however the application that does this is pretty flaky. - If you run XP and use a Limited account, you are out of luck, the application crashes. - If you put your computer into hibernate mode, you are out of luck, the application will fail to reserve the printer (no error messages). - It's useless if you want to use Linux.
Occasionally the print server will have an error (there's a small red LED that is displayed in this case (if you have this print server sitting behind something you'll need to haul it up to see if the red light is on). In this state only power-cycling the unit fixed the error.
I'm really disappointed; Netgear typically has good stuff.
"Piece of junk, backed by the WORST customer service in the industry", Do NOT buy this product. I have used several wired print servers before, ALL without problem, THIS is the only one I have ever come across that doesn't work well. The print driver repeatedly goes to "sleep" and may or may not wake to print. FORGET about Netgears customer service, unless you like wasting your time. Netgear's policy is, the first THREE responses will be canned ones that have NOTHING to do with your issue, then they bump it to "level 2" who then proceed to waste AT LEAST another week providing more canned responses that indicate they have no idea what they are doing and no training. Well, at least Netgear employs people in 3rd world toilets so they won't have to starve. Buy a different product, this is junk.
