"Needs more 'human' characters", I absolutely LOVE this set of games. The Facemaker is fun, the games function properly with only minor glitches ('losing' music rather than 'winning' music when Gin is won), and the characters, while after much play are fairly predictable, still add so much to the overall effect. The 'revenge' feature is great, and the animation is good, but could be expanded. The biggest beef I have with this game is the lack of human characters as alternates; playing cards with animals and aliens is silly and juvenile. More 'normal', though quirky, personalities like Hedda, Chloe and Elayne are needed.

"chuckstar", The Hoyle card game is the ultimate card game ever assembled by any card company. It includes such games that are hard to find on the internet. Therefore, I recommend the Hoyle card game for anyone who love the game of cards to try it for yourself.

"hoyle fun", i bought the game to upgrade and older version. i love this and am addicted to gin, 500 rummy and solatire. i play it every day. the charaters are fun. you create your version of you or who you want to look like. you even get a voice. it's great

"My Partners in Euchre Never Bid on Purpose!", I like playing Euchre, but what makes me mad is that I seldom get a decent hand compared to my partner and my opponents. Almost every time I bid it is pushing my luck, because my hand is lacking key cards and I have to depend on my partner. Sometimes my partner is helpful, but too many times after a hand is played I review the cards as delt to all players and find that my so called partner had a great hand, and I mean great, and he passed and never bid. This causes us to lose games we should be winning. On the other hand I've noticed that our opponents have unbelievable hands most of the time. This game does require some skill, but nothing beats having good cards and when the opponents almost always are delt the better hands game after game, it gets boring so I go to other games. Essentially this game as designed is rigged. You don't feel like everyone has an equal chance to win, you always feel that the opponents can read your mind and always seem to have the key cards. For example, I aways have cards that force me to follow suit when a card is led, but I notice time and time again that the opponents are conveniently out of the suit led and can trump to win a trick and one of the partners aways seems to have the cards missing in the other partner's hand. When you play a game enough you can tell by the feel of the game if things are just "too clever" to happen by chance. This game would be a great game if there were true randomness instead of the controlled play. Playing this game is like gambling in a casino where the odds of winning are controlled by the casino owners.

"It's Great", I mainly like the feature where you do not have to worry about the CD giving out due to the whole program being on the hard drive.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Not so good....", The games we bought this for are Hearts, Spades, and Rummy. The first two have opponents / partners who play very poorly - we're amazed in Spades how your partner cuts you as much as your opponents and they can't play nil hands!! In Rummy the oppoenent ALWAYS gets three Kings - never lay one down.

The worst part of the game is the mouse buttons. You cannot change them and they're backwards! Also you have to drag the cards to lay out (in Rummy), not quick way to do so, and if you dont place them exactly where the box is they return to your hand.

Overall very frustrating and mildly entertaining. With a little more effort and a programmer / designer who had actually played the games this could have been good.

"Don't waste your money", Most of the people involved with programing this game seem to have been dedicated to making it as irritating, unenjoyable and predictable as possible. Solitaire seems to consist of anly a few variations; only the values of the cards dealt change. After a while you come to know which game you'll win. In poker the players do really clever things like check with a straight and raise with high card.

"Hoyle Card Games", I like the characters and even 'talk' to them. They have their own 'Personalities'. I also like the convinience of not having to use the disk whenever I play. I enjoy this game very much!

"Bridge is broken", I've spent a lot of time playing this, so I've obviously got my money's worth. There is a nice selection of games and the presentation is quite decent.

I like the way that the other players are "real" characters who talk to you. It's corny, but I find it does add to the fun of playing cards. True, I'm a bit mystified why these characters include talking animals and an alien from space, but you can edit out any characters you don't like, which is fine.

BUT - and here we come to my very big gripe against this game - I discovered that Bridge was essentially unplayable. The game documentation includes a guide to the bidding system, Standard American Yellow Card, which the game supposedly uses. The trouble is, it does nothing of the sort. I eventually realized that there is very little logic to the computer players' bidding. This was totally exasperating. Learning Bridge is hard enough as it is, and is simply impossible if the computer players just make it up as they go along!

I still have fun playing simpler games like Gin, Rummy 500, and Go Fish. But I only give this game 3 Stars because of the broken Bridge.

"Best yet with lots of room to improve.", This is the best version of Hoyle cards yet. All games play reasonably well. There is still a lot of improvement needed in the bidding and play of the hands in Bridge, Pinochle, Spades, and Euchre. The new Hoyle Bucks adds some new purpose in trying to win. If you are into playing cards, this is the best bang for the buck.
