"Just Like The Movie!"
This is a really cool & fun game! Rockstar went to great lengths to make it just like the movie, even getting a few of the original actors from the film to provide voiceovers, such as Michael Beck (Swan), James Remar (Ajax) & Deborah Van Valkenburg (Mercy).

Yes, there's plenty of blood, violence & even some gross stuff sometimes (like boppers throwing up in the street after drinking too much, for example), things that Rockstar video games are known for, but the scenery & overall gameplay are excellent. The only minor complaint that I have is the length of time it takes to beat a couple of the levels; an example is Rembrandt's "initiation" sequence, where you have to get past a bunch of winos & street bums. These guys just keep on coming even after you've beaten the holy hell out of them!

After that, you move on to duking it out with several of your fellow Warriors, which doesn't take nearly as long to complete. I haven't been able to get past the 3rd level (Payback-East Coney) where you have to "tag" the Destroyers' turf as well as get past the whole clique to defeat the level.

This is small criticism though; you'll have a lot of fun playing this game as I did. As Cyrus said, CAN YOU DIG IT?? Enjoy!

"The Movie Comes To Life, In Your Fingertips!"
I stumbled across this game on the IGN website and read great reviews about it. I have been and still am a huge fan of the GTA series, and this game seemed very similar to it. I took a chance and ordered it from Amazon. The next day, I went to Best Buy, and to my surprise found the actual movie. I brought it because it was so cheap and ran home to watch to, to try to get some background for the game. I fell in LOVE with the movie! It is by far one of the best movies of all time, but this review is about the game. The game arrived about a day or two after me seeing the movie. I popped it in and got hooked from the moment I hit the start button. The characters are so detailed and the plot is almost identical to the movie. I felt as if I took control of everyone in the movie to have events happen that I wish could have happened in the movie. The movie and game are worth buying!

"Come out and plaaaay!!!"
This is a great homage to the movie of the same name. For anyone that has played any of Rockstar's flagship games (Grand Theft Auto) then you will be familiar with this game. But, as always, Rockstar gives you a different feeling in this game where you actually have different elements in this game such as teamwork, stealing (there is a fun mini-game where you can take a car stereo from a car, and lockpicking. If you picked up bully and after you played the Warriors, you will see where bully got most of it's element. The story takes place weeks before the movie takes place, so you actually get a feel of the gang, each and every member. Anyway, if you are looking for a game with linear and some not so linear qualities to it, this is one to check out.

"well let's see... it's a rockstar game.. yep, it's a rockstar game. "
how many games have rockstar made? i don't know, but it seems like it never ends. the godfather, grand theft auto, bully... all the same damn game with different graphics and different stories. the warriors mixes it up *a little* by focusing on the close melee combat. unfortunately, the melee combat isn't nearly as fun when you're playing it as it looks in those screenshots. it doesn't help that there's a lot of gangsters on the screen at the same time, making it hard to see who are your buddies and who you should be beating up.

as in every other lame rockstar game, the controls are too complicated (read: easy to forget). there's a different control scheme for everything from picking a lock to busting down gates to.. you name it. the problem is (like in grand theft auto) there's no quick reference or reminder on the screen to tell you the controls. so i'm sitting there with a full "rage meter" and can't remember how to use it. this game isn't worth sifting through the controls in options to learn how to do something. now if it was ninja gaiden, it would be worth looking up.. but this is certainly no ninja gaiden!

the good: good graphics, good storyline, great dialog and style. unfortunately, it's a bunch of style and some pretty boring repetitive gameplay. even super mario bros. 1 had more variety than just punching and kicking. yawn. i'll be skipping anything that says "rockstar games" on it for the rest of my life. they never really make anything new or exciting.

"Another ban?"
With the recent pull of San Andreas from store shelves, Manhunt being banned pretty much everywhere, and Jack Tompson trying to get Bully banned in Florida, it`s a wonder why noones talkin about this game, at all. Its worse than GTA in some respects, although theres no sex, and cussing isnt as bad (tho, its BAD) this is the most violent game iv`e ever played. Im not tryin to put the game down, im just sayin people are worryin bout Bully which aint violent at all, over this psycotic but awsome beat em up.

"GREAT GAME GREAT MOVIE, WELL DONE!", IF YOUR A FAN OF THE MOVIE THAN THIS GAME IS A MUST HAVE! I REALLY ENJOY PLAYING THIS IT TOTALLY LIVED UP TO THE MOVIE! PUT SIMPLY THE GAME IS REALLY EASY TO PLAY , THE LEVELS ARE FUN TELL THE MOVIE AND DONT RUIN IT IN THE PROCESS. SOMTIMES IT'S REALLY HARD FOR A MOVIE / GAME NOT TO GO TO FAR OFF PATH FROM THE ACTUAL MOVIE. THIS GAME DID EXTREMLY WELL AND I TOTALLY DUG IT! "CAN U DIG IT? SUCK'AS!!"

"Warriors a Let Down", Just a let a down, not as good as I thought... should rent it 1st

"If you come out to play-ay, you'll go back in pretty soon", The Warriors game is a good movie based game, but I feel like the product shows that the developers thought that The Warriors didn't have enough content to make a good game.
There are 18 missions that take place before the movie's timeline. The movie itself: 5 levels. That is, the movie is 20% of the game missions. I do think it is nice that they gave the backstory for every Warrior, but it is a bit much. Also the backstories have almost no relation to the movie part of the game. As I was playing the earlier parts of the game I assumed that you were visiting locations that you later would have to trek through. Actually they have no relation whatsoever to the movie part.
The game is also shockingly linear. Rockstar has a pedigree for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy style sandbox games, but this game is NOT by the GTA Rockstar, this is Rockstar Toronto. They also made the PS2 Max Payne game and Manhunt 2 for Wii. (Rockstar North in Scotland makes the GTA series.)
The controls are simple: kick, punch, & jump. You can also pick up knives, bottles, or other items to use as weapons. While playing this game I was constantly reminded of brawlers like Final Fight or Double Dragon (NES). Just like those games you can play the entire game co-operatively. The minigame "Armies of the Night" that you get after beating the game is a Warriors spin on those side scrolling type of games.
The soundtrack is top notch, and many of the voices of the movie return for the game including Ajax, Swan, Cleon, Cochise, & Mercy. Some of the new replacement voices are so good that I didn't notice that it was different people until the credits.
Ultimately this is a good game, but to hear that Rockstar was involved after Grand Theft Auto San Andreas had gang fighting, will probably make you expect a different game. Unlike GTA:SA you will not have turf battles and you can't take a rival gang's territory. Also the game does not have a GTA style overworld that you can explore. Each level is an isolated piece of the city with straight-as-an-arrow linear action.
If you were expecting GTA: The Warriors, you will be disappointed. If you were expecting Double Dragon: The Warriors, then you will be quite pleased.

"Warriors PS2 game", I really enjoyed this game. I thought it went into the backrounds of all the charaters really well, how they ended up with the warriors, etc. I absolutely loved the non-stop fighting and mini games. If your into fighting games and love the warriors, I'd recommmend this.

"Very dissapointing", The worker at GameStop recommended this game over Sopranos and Transformers(I haven't played either). This game is a mix of very easy and non-engaging. The entire game you are given instruction after instruction about 5 seconds apart. It feels as though the game keeps telling you, "run forward", "follow Warchief" over and over. The game for me became boring after about 20 minutes. I was anticipating some further action to take place, but never got to it.

"Classic Rockstar and A Nice Tribute to The Movie", I remember when The Warriors video game was announced, I was literally counting the days to its release. I grew up in the 80's and "The Warriors" was one of those movies that would appear on "The Movie Channel" on a fairly regular basis. To this day, I can still recite some of the movie's more famous lines. The movie was pure escapism, especially for young suburban teens.

What makes the game so great is the first half of it takes place BEFORE Sirus's infamous speech that lead to his demise. You learn (I presume made up by the minds of Rockstar) how some of the more famous characters became Warriors in the first place. This portion of the game plays like a cross between "Manhunt" and "Grand Theft Auto" - i.e. mission based, free flowing environments. Though, the graphics in The Warriors are not up to snuff, the game play is anything but second rate. The missions themselves are very entertaining as well.

The second half of the game is a replay of the movie from start to finish - it's a nice tribute, and you know how its going to turn out - with the notable exception of the finale - it doesn't end nearly as ceremoniously as the movie, but it's fun just the same.

Solid gameplay, average graphics - Rockstar digs deep to strike a creative vein from start to finish.

Very worthwhile effort.

"You can't count, suckas!", "Mark It Zero" couldn't be more wrong.

GTA: Vice City came out before (October 29, 2002) Manhunt did (November 19, 2003). So your claim that they ripped a level from Manhunt is totally bogus. If anything it's the other way around.

I personally think The Warriors is one of the best movie to game.. eh.. games out there. Not to mention making it one of the better current generation brawlers.

The game is very faithful to the movie, except now you can explore stories leading to the events that took place before the conclave with Cyrus plus what we've already seen in the movie.

For a brawler I think it has a very deep combat system. You can pull off some really neat combos and team attacks. I think Rockstar borrowed some points from Manhunt in the gameplay department and beefed them up to be even better. Especially when it comes to the cinematic strikes. They look and sound like they hurt. A lot.

Big kudos on the sound. It's great to see most of the surviving cast doing voices for their movie counterparts. People like Roger Hill, who didn't do his voice for Cyrus, the person who voiced him in the game did a really good job. The sound effects are pretty good. You're almost always constantly fighting and smashing various people or objects, so I think good sound is key in moments like this. Don't worry, you'll know what it is your smashing and it sounds really satisfying. If you're familiar with the movie, you'll really dig the soundtrack here. It's mostly Barry De Vorzon's original movie score with a lot of the movies licensed tracks too. All really good stuff.

I think almost everyone can agree, the one drawback with The Warriors would have to be with the graphics. Though not as flashy as some of the PS2's more popular games' graphics, like Metal Gear Solid 3 or God of War, I think Rockstar did a very passable job. I mean, the graphics are going to have to take a dip if you're going to get so many characters on screen and keep a fairly steady framerate. Not to worry though, they're not the ugliest things you've seen. You'll be able tell who is who and the overall grittyness and dark tones are here that make the game look like the movie.

As I said before, The Warriors has got to be, for me anyway, one of the best movie-to-game games you'll ever play. If you're a fan of the movie or just into brawler games in general, you'd do yourself good to rent or purchase a copy of The Warriors.

"Rockstar is a joke", I sincerely believe that Rockstar Games is quite possibly the cheapest video game company in the industry today.

Example:

-The Junkyard where you rescue Lance Vance in GTA: Vice City is 99% the same thing as a level in Manhunt.
-Dialogue in The Warriors was lifted from Manhunt, but with different voices.

The game itself is, basically, a rockstar game. Boring controls, mediocre gameplay, decent voice-acting, which again is repetitive (when tagging the Destroyers turf one of your fello gang members spits the same line about 6 or 7 times.)

Thus far, Rockstar games is 1 for, well, i don't know how many they've made, but Manhunt is their only good game.

"I was pleasantly surprised.", I have been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto games for quite a while. Always WAITING for the the next one to come out.

I am a SERIOUS fan of the original Warriors movie. It is one if my favorite movies of all time...yes I am showing my age. :)

Sooo...when I heard there was a game coming out based on The Warriors, I was excited. Then I was scared it was going to be crappy. THEN I got excited all over again because I heard that Rockstar was goingto be making it!

Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed. I can't seem to put the game down!
I tried to get my husband to play it with me, but he can't seem to handle the split screen thing when the characters get too far from one another.
That's ok with me though...because when I play it alone I don't have to worry about what he is doing wrong to mess up the level! lol
My daughter's 17 year old boyfriend loves this game and we were talking about it today. He didn't even know that it was based on a movie. So, he ran out to get the movie. YES, I have recruited another Warriors fan!
I am SOOO enjoying this game and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone.

""Can You Dig It?"", Yeah, I can dig it. As many of you know, The Warriors is a game developed by Rockstar Toronto based on the 1979 Cult Film of the same name. The Warriors are mistakenly accused of killing a big time gang leader named Cyrus. Soon they have every gang in the city out to get revenge. The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. That's the story of the movie anyways, cause if you think this game is another movie rehash...you're dead wrong.

The game takes place 90 days before the movie does. It details the events leading up to the big meeting in an entirely new storyline that really melds well with the movie. It's obvious right off the bat that R* has loads of respect for this movie, everything about this games oozes it.

"Be lookin' good, Warriors. All the way back to Coney. You hear me babies? Good. Real Good. Adios"

There is so much to do in this game though. You can play story missions to further the story. Then there is Rumble mode where you can choose any gang in the city and battle any other gang with many different game modes or you can create your own gang. Of course, you can search Coney Island (it's not very big...at all but you don't need loads of space in a game like this. The Warriors don't have much turf anyways) and do side missions and such. You can also work out with a heavy bag, do sit ups, push ups and chin ups. There are also Flashback Missions where you can go back and play and learn everything from how The Warriors started to how each individual member joined.

Alright though, onto the technical parts. First is the graphics. I know they don't look pretty in screenshots. And to be honest, they aren't anything special but they work for some reason. There aren't hi-res textures, some are just plain muddy but as I said, they work for this game, maybe because of the grittinnes of it, I don't know but I like the graphics. That's not to say I wish they were better though, cause I would've liked that but I'm not complaining by any means. The character models are great. You can easily tell which character is which. All are detailed exactly how they should be and are very faithful to what is depicted in the film. The environments are dark but that is intentional cause there is a stealth aspect to this game, it's light but it's there.

The game controls very well. Control is tight and responsive. There are many moves you can do, even on the last chapter I was finding out new moves I could do. You can do head smashes, beat the crap out of someone, smash their skull on the pavement, do combo moves with other Warriors and much much more. There is also a Rage meter which seems dumb at first but later in the game you realize how helpful it is. You can tag...ALOT. It is sometimes challenging, even if it is only a trace the line with your controller" minigame. They get challenging, especially if you have a Warrior who has lame tagging skills. You can tag burners (big banners that have "The Warriors" on it) or a plain red "W" over another gangs tag. There are also "War-Chief" controls that work great. The AI teammates are actually pretty good. They can hold their own, sometimes longer than you can.

The Warriors sounds phenominal. Most of the voice actors reprise their roles. James Remar, Michael Beck, Dorsey Wright, David Harris and Deborah Van Valkenburg are just some that reprise their roles. Of course some actors are not with us anymore and had to be replaced (most notably the DJ and Rembrandt. The actors have since passed on [R.I.P]) but the people they got are almost dead on with their performances. I don't know why they couldn't get Michael Potts (Cyrus) or David Patrick Kelly (Luther) to come back, considering they are still alive (but the vioce actors they did get are spot on in their performances. I honestly couldn't tell if it was the original actors or not until the end credits when I saw they were different). Oh well. The Sound Effects are spot on. Everything sounds great. Bottles, tables, and chairs smashing to the music. Oh the music. I've always enjoyed the movie's soundtrack and its all here...but more of it. "In The City"? It's here. "Last of an Ancient Breed"? Yup. "Nowhere to Run"? Oh yeah. All of it is placed perfectly also.

The Warriors is one of the best games I've played in a while. It takes one of my favorite movies and respectfully translates it to a fun as hell game. Of course, I haven't touched on everything yet, some of it just needs to be played. I may add to this here and there as I think of stuff so check back. So should you "Come Out To Play"? Oh hell yes. Go out and play dammit.

"Warriors make a life of fantasy, on this night, we'll ride the devil's feet, gonna stand our ground on this part of town like the last of an ancient breed, like the last of an ancient breed?"
