Others say...
"A useful review for you dial up gamers out there." When you read the blurbs located in various locations on the box it states that:
Breakthrough technology allows you to play on a 56k connection as "smooth as silk".
I read that and thought, "Ahhh, the replacement for Counter-Strike and Battlefield I've been looking for!" Not true. Apparently silk is not as smooth as I was lead to believe. Don't misunderstand me, however. When I was able to get into a game I enjoyed it very much. Usually I was booted within five minutes by the hosts of the game for high latency. Normal ping was around 300-400 on the smaller servers. Trying to play on the larger servers with 100-150 players is impossible on dial-up.
If you have broadband, which most people do, you won't experience these problems. If you are stuck with dial-up as your internet connection don't buy this.
"BORED TO DEATH/SCREWED TO DEATH" For the PRICE and the NAME of the maker you would expect more. This is an ONLINE game that ONLY works if you install the included SPYWHARE that sends your internet protection into spasums everytime you turn on your computer. If you played Black Hawk Down and thought that OH another title from the same people IT MUST BE GOOD well IT'S NOT!! IT SUCKS!! IT SUCKS!! NOVALOGIC should be ashamed for putting out such GARBAGE and THEN trying to SELL an expansion pack. WHAT does the expansion pack clean the BOREDOME! I think all the people who got RIPPED off on this game should express how the feel!
"Awesome game!!!" This game is very addicting once you get started. The graphics on this game are great. You can drive a variety of helicopters and boats. If you liked this game you should also consider buying th expansion pack ( Joint Operations :Escalation). Overall this is a great game!!!
"Nice game, but...................." Looking for a war game that has realism, most of the current weapons of todays army, and vehicles (including helicoptors) that you can ride? This game has it all!! BUT, you'll find yourself respawning countless times in fustrating, after fustrating attempts to get on the battlefield with those weapons and rides. Soon after getting the hang of things you'll find lag and more experienced players kniving and shooting you back to respawn time and time again. I've played far cry and countless other war games and this one is for the very very very patient. Team play, yes, this game has that too However, no one actually uses the controls to "team play" and you end up one for all and all for one throwing as much firepower, grenades, and missles as you can just to stay alive for 2 seconds.
If you don't mind respawning 100 times a match, enjoy semi-teamplay (I use the term very loosely), and firing up to date weapons, then this game is for you.
"A regular guy's review..." Just got the game yesterday and I must say that this is a solid multiplayer FPS.
If you are a 'run and gun' loner, who opts for the heavy firepower, pass on this game. If you want a mature 'TEAMWORK' experience, this is the game for you. I frequently play Battlefield 1942/Vietnam, and am getting a bit weary of the 'deathmatch kiddies' who rampage across the map with their rocket launchers. In Joint Ops, you can do that, but you won't make much progress. This game requires real teamwork. To take a position you must outnumber the enemy forces at that point, or you cannot take control of it. Snipers loose accuracy over great distances, so no 'newbie' 1 km headshots in this game either. The engineers can carry mortars, but need a spotter with a targeting laser to 'paint' targets for accuracy. The more you work with your team and plan out your attacks, the more success you'll have.
Some of the maps are incredibly massive. You can have a ground battle raging, and 20 miles away a gunboat battle could be underway.
It is true that helicopter flight is exceptionally easy compared to battlefield Vietnam. You don't have to manage your thrust with forward movement in Joint Ops. I for one find this a positive, since the threat from the ground can be so intense that it pretty much evens out the odds.
As mentioned before, if you only have 56K connection, DO NOT BELIEVE THE BOX. I tried it out on my girlfriend's computer with 56K connection, and it was unplayable.

What our customer's say!
"Fantastic", Playing this online against dozens of humans, or in co-op against AI missions, this game is just tons of fun, and very high quality. Sure AI is a little stupid, but how else can you down 160 enemies, just you and your buddy -oh, and blow up their radar stations while you're there.
"Joint Operations: Typhoon rising demo", I just want to let you know i think this is the funnest game, well not funnest but one of the funnest games. i just have the demo and i might get the game for my birthday or christmas. you can drive a humvee jump out of a helicopter, yet if you do it just right you won't get chopped up into little pieces.
"We are still waiting for the game to be sent to the house.", This is taking so long just to get to our house it's not funny I will never buy anything from this company again. It's now going on two months FROM THE TIME I put in the order and my son is very disappointed that he has to wait so long. They sent him the second half of the game so he can't play it until the first half gets here. That is why we are so upset with this company. And I was told that they would sent it over night which they didn't. So I would think twice before anyone else should order anything from this company. There all lies just to get you to buy from them.
"Good but buggy and frequented by vegetables...", When people work together in this game it works really well and is quite enjoyable. However most of the time it consists of random conflict where noone listens or wants to use any strategy or as the title suggests "Joint Operations" ie combined arms warfare. Instead they treat it as a shoot-em-up and run around like headless chicken causing games to drag out and become infuriating as well as extremely boring. The unrealistic movement becomes almost nauseating: players frequently move and jump around ridiculously to avoid enemy fire...there is no "stamina" level to prevent this. The vehicle physics are appallingly bad (probably the worst I've ever encountered) and the vehicles themselves are not survivable (apart from APCs which are almost impossible to destroy with heavy machinguns but not rockets). Weaponry is not much use either. For example the Barrett M82 was designed to take out enemy APCs etc, yet in the game it can't destroy anything apart from soldiers. Within a week of playing this you will be cursing "noob base-rapers" and "campers". The level of stupidity displayed by people is sometimes appalling...new players will simply NOT work together period. There is no in-game device to ensure teamwork so they make it an incredibly frustrating experience. With a good team which works together the game is great but the buggy physics, pathetic vehicles, and unrealistic weaponary RUIN it.
"Strong 4, weak 5", If you have bad internet connection, don't get it. If you like to drive vehicles or play in a huge 150-player war and have good interet connection, get it. Slightly better than B:1942. As simple as that.
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy...
"Beats Battlefield In My Book", First off, beat the system requirements for this game. You will start to lag around 60 players online on an Athlon 1.4 Ghz.
This is a rather realistic team first person shooter. Teamwork is a must for taking objectives. Don't play this game if you want a deathmatch online experience. Team Deathmatch is included as gametype but it can become frustrating since death can come in so many forms and you rarely expect it.
The vehicle physics are very forgiving. I've driven off two cliffs in a Humvee and the vehicle suffered only minor damage. Getting around trees usually involves simply a small twist of the mouse. Forests are easily traveled through in anything but the light armored vehicles. Helicopters are essentially flying jeeps. Don't expect to pull off any crazy stunts or maneuvers. Most vehicles require two people, one to drive and one to fire. Only the attack helicopters can be piloted solo.
Weapons have very good ballistic models. You'll have to range find first if you're going to be a sniper. Automatic fire causes your gun to climb.
I love the realism in the game. City battles are tough and fast. The only annoying bit is that snipers can easily mow down a spawn point. You'll usually die just trying to get the sniper. Tanks sometimes take too many anti-tank rockets to tank down. Sometimes it'll take just one, other times three.
Buy this game if you want a dash of realism but you also want good team play. You'll also get more than just your one life in CS.
"Something realy good !", This is by far one of the best games on the net today ! 1st person shooter with a 3rd person twist in it. Need a good video card though and a good connection to the net to fully enjoy the pleasure of this game. Everything from maps to equipment and lets not forget vihicles is all top notch cant say a bad thing about this one Nova realy pulled it of with this title. Up to 150 people in a SINGLE map thats outstanding. Team work is VERY, VERY IMPORTANT and the realism is there no metter what anybody sas. I suggest...GET THE GAME YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.
"Not for deathmatching kiddies!", This game is more simulator than deathmatch experience. One hit kills are the norm. Deaths without knowing where it came from, or whom it game from are the norm.
If you are the rambo bunny hopping death match kiddie type do me and everyone else a favor and stay away.
Players that move in groups and work together rule this game, loner rambos die quickly and often.
The best analogy I can come up with is Joint Operations is a more "action" orientied Operation Flashpoint. With modern updated graphics.
Joint Operations does not have the extensive list of weapons and vehicles that Operation Flashpoint has and is class based so you choices of firepower are limited by what class you choose. All classes are useful, even the medic. But Joint Operations definately feels a little more "action" oriented, in the game play.
The expansion pack "Escalation" will add more vehicles, maps and weapons, so it will more like Operation Flashpoint in november.
"Not Perfect, but still tons of fun", Joint Operations is by no means a perfect game, desipte all of the hype. It is clear right from the get-go that this a battlefield compeititor. In some cases, Novalogic succeeds in creating a better Battlefield game, in other areas, it fails.
Joint Ops is set in the near future when a UN task force made up of special ops forces from all over the globe respond to an uprising in Indonesia. The story doesnt matter much, since there is no single player game other than the excellent training levels. Other than that, the entire game is played online. Now to the pros and cons:
Pros- Excellent ballisitc models Vehicles are easy to use - so easy that they put BF: Vietnam to shame Vehicles include helicopters, zodiacs, patrol boats, and jeeps/humvees (the list goes on) Multiple classes of soldiers to play as, each with unique abilities Gargantuan maps, can take a long time to get across Advance and Secure mutliplayer mode is a blast
Cons- Frequent deaths, and 90% of the time, you won't see your killer The massive 150 ppl servers can get a little too laggy to play. Stick to 80 or fewer ppl. All to easy for snipers to camp at your spawn point and pick off ppl as they spawn and try to fly away in helicopters. Only two vehicles allow you to fly and shoot at the same times.
In conclusion- JO is by no means perfect. At the same time, you will find yourself being drawn back from more of it's action packed gameplay. Novalogic succeeded in creating a Battlefield equal, but not a superior.
Additional Notes - You MUST have broadband. It says that 56k will work fine. It doesnt. I ran the game on low settings with a Nvidia GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 with nary a stutter. On a newr card, such as the Nvidia 6800 Ultra, the game looks SPECTACULAR. Have at least a GeForce 2 or an ATI 7500.
"JO rules...", This game although graphics may not be intense as FC or BFV, the gameplay blows the said above away. FC online play is a joke, it's like fighting comic book characters, pfff. BVF is a waste, the gameplay blows. You peeps who have probs running it, get a better video card. I've read your specs and your cards blow. FC is a joke for online play, and BFV is a total loss of time. JO rocks and those that I've seen write a bad review are prob the one's I'm spanking everytime I play..HaHa..!! Buy this game if enjoy kick butt online play...
