"Good Game", What happened to the Game - Star Wars Galaxies is probably one of, if no the most, entertaining MMO on the market right now. Contrary to what most of the reviews on here say, this game is not horrible mindless grinding with indignant players, who don't care a thing about enjoying the game. However, I have played this game since June of 2004 (I know this is not since the beta), and it has massively changed from its original format. When I started this game, the profession system was incredibly diverse, allowing a person to make a character to suite their playing style perfectly, but due to easily swayed Dev's and a lot of unfounded whining (most likely from the same people who are now giving it bad reviews now, or at least similar to these folks), the game was made horribly unbalanced. Fully leveled Jedi knights could be horribly wiped out by most of the other melee fighting classes, with no problem. Finally, the Devs realized that the game could not be fixed from its current state of buggered up, so they wiped it and started new. This time the classes are a bit more confined, but never the less they are just as fun.

What this means for the game - The Classes are much more confined, so this means you can't have a crafter with any combat class skills, but the up side is there are two character slots available on each server. This is much better. Because rather than having a good craft with horrible combat or vise versa, you can have both a good combatant and a good crafter or what ever you want. Also everything is pretty well balanced. The only thing that makes a class better than another is play style preference. Another plus is other than a few 13 year old L33T speakers and a few 38 year old star wars junkies/gurus, the people are pretty friendly and helpful.

MMO Recommendations - If you aren't sure what MMO to choose now here is my list of MMO's I've dealt with.

Matrix Online or City of Heroes - Not much to do other than kill baddies. However, killing enemies seems to stay fun for a long time, and player interactions are always entertaining. Since fighting is all there is to do, expect much grinding and repetitive missions.

Guild Wars - Content is fun for maybe 2 months, but after that you must entertain yourself creatively. Never was too hard for me, but it could be for some people. Free monthly fee is definitely worth getting. Nice side track when the pay per month MMO's get boring

World of Warcraft - Good game. The Fan base can get a little too into the game. The crafting is a bit odd and I never really pursed that too far. This game is also the most popular MMO right now, but I would recommend a trial.

Star Wars - My favorite. You can have fun doing quests, talking to people, messing with crafting, or just plain, pointless screwing around. Space is also the icing on the cake. Every game has grinding and some things take forever in this game, but it is a good one for those who get bored with constant killing. Try the trial if you are unsure.

PS - Never Dealt with Customer service, so it might not be good. I don't know about that one.

"Far too many bugs and poor customer support", If you want to get into the Star Wars world I recomend Star Wars Republic Commando instead (GREAT gameplay, no monthly fees).

In SWG, I got tired of running into bugs for most of the adventures/quests I decided to take. I would not recomend to pay for it. It seems to be a lot of new online games being released to play an old and buggy one.

Player chat rooms and forums need to be moderated/filtered a lot to control upset clients from expresing their justified frustration.

It could have been a VERY nice and fun online game (some people say it was, before changes SOE introduced some time ago)... but instead I find it now very buggy, poorly patched, poorly supported and full of inconsistecies.

"This guy is sooo true", for one im not a kid but i dont have an account and i didnt want to mess with it right now sooo.
This game is on of the best games i have ever played well sure i did get it after the NGE (New Game Enhancements) but if you need a MMO game that gives you more freedom then, yeah its a pretty awesome game and i even picked it over Matrix Online and WOW (World of Warcraft) because of those freedoms. IT IS AN AWESOME GAME......i mean it try it if you get the chance!!!

"Don't read the reveiws at the other end of the page.", This game is realy acctualy quite fun. It realy emergeges you into the Star Wars Universe, the people below are old players from the first versions but if you join now like I did, you won't notice a difference. It has anything Star Wars, you can communicate and receive missions from any character from the movies, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jabba The Hutt, Luke Skywalker you name it. It also has some stuff for fans of the prequel trilogy, just the other day I came across a space station commanded by the remanants of the droid army that attacked Naboo, speaking of Naboo you can access loads of Star Wars planets including ones you have never heard of. If you join now I asure you will get what you wanted. So pick up a copy today.

"game variety", Star Wars galaxies has far more variety to the game than other MMO's I have tried. Quests, space flight, crafting, pvp, and the best player housing I've seen in an MMO game.

You can have your character's image redone after entering the game world which is different as almost all other games set your character's looks permanently after character creation.

Of all the MMO's SWG is the one that gives the most for me to do in game.

"Don't waste your money", I've been playing SWG for almost two years now and my wife for just a few weeks less me. We put up with the nerfing of some of our favorite classes because the game was so flexible.

You could create almost any kind of avatar, and because of the very cool skills and professions trees you could follow almost any career path.

We met many people on line and joined our share of guilds but in on fell swoop SOE and LA have made our favorite characters useless. Suddenly all the maneuvering and point balancing we've done on the skill trees to come up with characters that could hold their own in combat but had useful skills outside of combat are worthless.

Everything that made our characters unique has been trashed. Now you can choose, combat machine, sneak thief, or support, no mixing of skills.

I understand the kids who have the most money to spend for online games drive the market, and maybe most of them just want to play a commando and don't care if he has any non-combat abilities but as adults we don't have a use for this game anymore.

To future players, BE WARNED, SOE and LA don't care how many hundreds of hours you've invested in a character. They'll change the rules on you in a heartbeat that will make your character useless or eliminate their class/skills completely.


"Boycott Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts.", I have played Star Wars: Galaxies for 782 days according to the /getvet command. I have purchased all of the expansions out to date. I was considering creating a second account. As of 11-17-05 my account is cancelled. The New Game, also known as the Starter Kit, is the third version of SWG and it is riddled with bugs and incomplete. It is a far inferior product to its previous versions as well. The NG was released after being kept secret for an unknown period of time and allowing players only a two week notice of it being published. Even less time was devoted to it being tested by sources outside of SOE. Trials of Obi Wan and the NG were released in such a manner as to call into question SOE's and LA's ethics. As represented by the employees who post to the forums SOE and LA are uncarring, glib, and/or vastly out of touch with the player community.

Most of these are not new complaints. However, with the release of the NG these problems have escalted to such a degree that the game is no longer playable. While some are content to merely switch games I am not. Simply changing the direction of the flow of money to SOE and LA will not get their attention. I am boycotting all products created by Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts. I encourage others to do the same.

I do not think my actions alone with effect SOE or LA one iota. In fact, I doubt anything will change their policies. The fan base for Star Wars and other properties is sufficiently numerous to mitigate any discontent portion. While some have predicted that the NG will cause the collapse of SWG I believe otherwise. It will lose many current players but those will be replaced by SOE's and LA's new target market. SOE and LA will later use the negative comments and future subscriptions numbers to prove that they were right all along and to dismiss anyone who opposes them as being knee jerk reactionaries who are against change just because they don't like change. Because most likely the next expansion will also bring a new version of SWG as SOE and LA attempt to copy whichever game is doing better then.

"Buying Anything SW:G Related is a bad idea.", You might as well just throw your money in the toilet. Only the Star Wars name/franchise has been able to keep this game afloat for as long as it has been. With the latest changes, it will not last much longer.

the SW:G Japan servers have already been shut down as of a few weeks ago. SW:G U.S. servers are well on their way.

"Too bad SOE dosent care about its customers!", You would think that a company would take into consideration the thoughts of its players. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the designers of the Star Wars Galaxies team (SOE= Sony Online Entertainment). They will charge you for expansions and then turn around and remove 80% of the professions that you have spent months developing. They do this with NO warning and will not refund money. They do not support the needs and desires of the playing customers. If there were ever an example needed of what not to do with your online customers, SOE could write the book.
