"Don't waste your money"
I purchased one of these for a customer and they started having issues a week later everything seemed to work fine except 2 pc's had intermittent connectivity issues, switched ports then a couple days later other pc's had intermittent issues then a week later 4 ports died then the next day 4 more died and by the end of the day lost 4 more. I'm a certified on Cisco equipment and have had very good luck throughout the years with Cisco products but myself and techs I deal with have not had good experiences with this product.

"DO NOT BUY"
Upgraded from a stable but 10/100 D-Link switch for improved performance. The Linksys switch worked great for 6 months but when I came in to work this morning my network was down. I could not diagnose the problem so my IT guy had to come out and after a couple of hours (at $105/hr) found that 12 or the 16 ports were bad. Amazon WILL NOT HELP after 30 days and sent me to deal with Linksys directly. Unfortunately, only now do I see the bad reviews for this product (too late for me) but hopefully not for you. STAY AWAY. I'm sure Linksys will replace the switch since it's under warranty but I'm know the new one will fail in time as well. Wish I had never upgraded and really wish I had not bought this switch.

"Works for a while..."
As others have mentioned, this switch works great for a while. About 8 months of constant use in a home/media environment including computers, tv receivers, ps3, voip then the entire switch went out. No ports would work but the cooling fan was running. Customer service was great and they replaced it since it comes with a lifetime warranty. Well, several months later while I was out of town my wife called on the cell phone and said the home phones weren't working (voip) and she couldn't get her email. I had her power cycle the cable modem to no avail. Came home and check into it, none of the link lights were working on the switch. Well turns out the last four ports on the switch work and nothing else. They are sending me a replacement but I don't want to have to continue replacing this thing. I guess I'll stick it out for now because of the replacement cost for a different brand switch. I can't say I have been pleased with this switch. Stay away if you want long-term reliability. I have been using the sr2016 since march of 2007.

"Good ... then bad"
I purchased the Linksys SR2016 16-port gigabit switch in Feb 2007 and it worked flawlessly through August 2008, when 12 of the 16 ports mysteriously died, taking down my network with it.

Others have noted similar problems with this switch - good operation followed by failure - an odd recurring situation for hardware that should be stable for the long term. My past experiences with Linksys products were more favorable than this.

I have rated the product 3 stars as an average: Absolutely no problem with set-up or performance for 18 months (5 stars), followed by massive failure (0 stars). This said, I plan to order another SR2016 to replace this one with hopes that my positive experience (of it working well) is not followed by the negative experience of failure I faced with my first purchase of this switch.

* * *

An addendum: I expected that after 18 months, this switch was out of warranty but called Linksys just to check. Turns out it was under warranty and they are sending me a new replacement .... so customer service gets an A+. The switch should not have failed but the company did stand by its product.

"Thank God For Amazon Prime"
We purchased this system 7 months ago and it worked great up until this week. Starting on Monday we started experiencing intermittent problems. Our first thought was that Comcast was the issue, but our wireless network was up and going fine. We also realized that when some people were out, others were still connected. By today, only two ports were working. Luckily we have Amazon Prime and the new switch I ordered will be here tomorrow. I tried to find a 1000 16 or 24 port switch locally to no avail.

What our customer's say!

"Bad costumer support", It broke after two months of use, I have been waiting for 5 weeks for linksys to send me a replacement, I had to buy another switch I could not leave my business with out a network for that long, not recommended for business.

"Another one goes down!", I purchased the Linksys SR2016 11/26/07. 12 of 16 ports are now dead. So it lasted amazingly almost exactly 13 months. We've contacted Linksys and they want the old unit back before they will send a new one! What am I supposed to do with my business for those days? The other option is to pay $75.00 for 'Quick Turnaround' of one day delivery. I think that is BS. When you buy Linksys don't be fooled into thinking its Cisco quality.
The latest update is the product is on backorder at the local warehouse. I had to go purchase a $25 5 port 10/100 switch and plug it into one of the working ports of the SR2016 to give me a few more links for the meantime.

"Don't Waste your Money....$$$$", I have been doing Network Consulting and Repair for years and have always used Linksys products. Maybe I am just "jumping to conclusions", but the quality of Linksys seems to have taken a dive after Cisco purchased the company. I have lost numerous Switches and Routers that seem to last 12 to 18 months. I now call them "13 month wonders", because they last just outside the warranty period. I feel that Cisco is trying to encourage the higher end products by causing the Linksys products to have premature failures. Just my conspiracy theory.....
I started using some Encore Products (which I consider very cheap and not very well made), but these products have outlasted the Linksys gear.

"AVOID THESE AT ALL COSTS!!!", We have had two of these fail in the last 7 months. They both failed in well under a year. I will think long and hard before buying any Linksys or Cisco product ever again. Oh yeah, their RMA Replacement program is TERRIBLE. It took approximately 3 months to receive the replacement unit. That one failed after 5-6 months.

"Lynksys 12 out of 16 ports failed: Buy if you like stress", ARGhhh - I meant 1 star - really I meant no stars!

Sudden failure of 12 of the 16 ports created a nightmare. It could have been worse - we had a spare - but this had only run for 3 months. So now we feel the need to swap out every one of these we have at the data centers and customer locations. What is so complicated about building quality switches. Where on earth have they been manufacturing these - and from what parts? This is not reasonable.

A follow up:
Okay so we requested and followed the procedure for an RMA.
The first problem was that there was not a way to get an rma for the 16 port unit - we called - they said to select the option for the 24 port.

Then for a month Linysys lost our unit - said they were still awaiting return of product.

It took many many phone calls to convince them that the tracking number was real and they had indeed received the unit.

This morning I get 2 emails 1 canceled the original RMA, the second issued another one - so I called and they acted like it was an evil thing we did sending in a RMA for the wrong product...

Arrrrgh... I think I will keep adding to this review.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Seems to be a systemic problem", Worked fine for a year. Last week I would have given it 5 stars. One day I woke up to network problems very similar to some of the reviews on this site . Sporadic intermittent failures of both individual ports and of the entire switch. I also had trouble isolating the problem because the errors appeared consistent with router, DHCP and firewall issues. Symptoms didn't seem like switch issues...or maybe I haven't seen enough switches. Flakey is probably an accurate term. If it were not for some of the reviewers below describing what happened with them, it would have taken me much longer to diagnose the problem. Since one reviewer said he had two of these units fail in this same way, I would think there is something systematically wrong with this switch.

"Dies slowly and creates huge problems as it dies", I had two SR2016 switches installed--one at our business and one at home. Both died in exactly the same way, the first in about six months and the second in about 12 months. Unfortunately, they don't fail suddenly and completely. Rather, they die slowly and intermittently. The symptom is that random and seemingly inexplicable errors occur on the network, together with what appear to be DHCP failures between the switch and the router. Attached devices will intermittently appear to have network service, but with random failures. Frequently, the attached devices "lock up" and need to be rebooted to clear the problem. The symptoms gradually worsen until failure is complete. It took me a long time to figure out that the switch was the problem, since in a complex network it's hard to troubleshoot this kind of failure.

Stay away from this product--there is something systematically wrong with either the design or the construction. This is unfortunate, because it works very well until the trouble starts.

"Buyer beware", I owned this switch for a little over a year. It slowly died taking my LAN with it (slowly). It took me a long time to figure it out since my LAN is fairly complex and contains several switches. However, I had 3ea of the Linksys SR20xx 8-port models die on me much faster. Fortunately, those were much easier to find since they just died completely when they went. So, I am not going to purchase any more of the Linksys SR20xx products. I hope that others are more fortunate, but I have had too many of them fail and am now trying D-Link switches. I used to really like Linksys and their hardware used to work forever (or so it seemed).

"SR2016 - Excellent 16-port switch, great value", I bought the Linksys SR2016 16-port Gigabit switch for a new house build where I did my own DIY network wiring, ran Cat6+ data cable throughout the house, 14 Cat6 RJ45 jacks installed in total on the first and second floors, which were all home run to this switch. Every port on the switch works beautifully (I know this because I'm using every last one of them), and I always leave the switch ON 24/7. I have had it in place for almost 2 months now and it has never needed to be power cycled. I get full Gigabit speeds to all PC's and game consoles connected to this switch. Definitely speeds up file transfers, and in some cases, the transfer rate of the network exceeds the transfer rate supported by the internal hard disk in the PC, so the network is certainly no longer the bottleneck regarding file transfer. The SR2016 does have a fan, but it's relatively quiet, and unless you're intentionally listening for the fan noise, I don't think it would be of any bother to anyone. It does keep the switch cool/vented, so it serves its purpose and it is a necessary component in a switch with this many ports.

If you can make use of the 16 Gigabit ports for your home or small business and want all the benefits of having a Gigabit wired network, this switch is a great buy. Linksys switches and routers are some of their best and most reliable products, and I always recommend them to others for their reliability and user-friendly features. The SR2016 is a hands-off device, give it power, then plug in your Gigabit-enabled PCs or gaming consoles, sit back, and enjoy the 1000mbps transfer rates.

"Works great so far---I love it!", I read somewhere that these were loud switches. I found it to be quiet and fast. Mine came with ears for a 19" rack mount. I installed a 1x12 shelf and attached two ears to make a "poor man's" rack mount to give it better ventilation. It's in the basement so it won't get very hot anyway.

The Gigabit speeds have been fabulous for moving files between computers on my network. Now if I only have this kind of speed in my pipe to the Internet.

I've had other Linksys products that have failed. I've returned them and been shipped still better newer products. This is why I stuck with Linksys this time.

Long term update. Still working without a hiccup. I love it.

Looking at Netgear, I found they would not stand behind their products if used 24/7. Huh? Why would anyone shut one of these things down? Trust me--Linksys--most of their products are quite good and reasonable priced
