"Major disappointment", I bought this game after having played and enjoyed the origional Airport Tycoon. In short, find and buy the origional Airport Tycoon, which is a better game, despite being made much earlier.

The asset of Airport Tycoon was that it had an aspect of realism along with the play. Terminal design, for example, was very individualized and usually required micromanagement. The game was also fun. New buildings and runways were available often enough to keep the player curious and busy attempting to satisfy airline's needs while increasing profit. When I was not expanding my airport, I had time to improve the catering services, add more check-in desks to the airport terminals, and do more micromanagement. By allowing this level of detail, the game had depth and replayability

Airport Tycoon 3 is a massive disapointment. The new graphics are more cartoonish and have higher resolution, but are not necesarily better, due to the view angles and zoom. There are, however, many significant downsides.
1: the game is now dependant on waiting, but with nothing to do. The largest previous lack was a way to increase game speed, and this still has not been fixed. However, all the micromanagement options are gone, so the player can either continue building their airport and bankrupt themselves, or wait indefinitely until an airline appears.
2: The effects of buildings and actions are completely unclear. Even for an experienced player, it is difficult to know if most buildings actually have any effect.
3: all the fun is gone. In the origional, the player would often reject contracts for a common airplane (like a Focker Fellowship) in hopes of being offered a larger, less common airplane that would yield more profit and look nicer on the runway. The player would also recieve occasional rewards for performance. I am unable to tell if this capability still exists; Airport Tycoon 3 is incapable of functioning in a "game-like" manner; it seems more random, and depends on waiting.


So, in summary, find and buy the origional Airport Tycoon, which is still a much better and more enjoyable game.

"Somewhat Dissapointing", I expected a lot more out of airport tycoon. The game has a ton of glitches and is very complicated. It was nothing like I would have expected.

"Discusting!!!", this game is awful!!! it is hard to figure out where to put things and the tutorial is no help at all! it is hard to navigate and it is incredibly boring. i would NOT recomend this for ANYONE unless you are BEGGING for a vein to pop in your forehead!!!

"Why did I buy this??", I did not follow everyone else advice and went ahead and bought it. Don't do it! It's boring, slow, and not very exciting.

"Pretty fun game.. if it dosent crash", I went against the reviews and bought this game, because I love aviation and liked the first airport tycoon. It takes awhile to get used to, and you have to do a bit of waiting, but once you get it its pretty fun. The only proplem I have is it crashes alot, there could be a fix to this I have to look. Other than that I would recommend this to people who really love commercial aviation and airports. If you arnt in one of those it might not be a game you like.

"Just what I love", If you love the sim type game and a program with lots of fun, then this is for you. I'm a sim addict and this is one of the best that I got for Christmas.

"Help assistance", Both the pop-up help and the written documentation are completely inadequate to the task. For all practical purposes this game is undocumented. Suitable only for those who like to spend hours experimenting to find the solution for what should be easily learned from the program authors.

"THE GAME OF SIT BACK BE FRUSTRATED AND IMPATICENT", This Game is fun at first, but gets old very quickly. It's 97% Wait, 2% Frustration, and 1% fun. Unless You like Waiting all weak to become an airport Tycoon, Don't Buy It! Spend Your money on somthing More Worth Wile.

"Good Game, Not Half Bad", From all the bad reviews slaughtered on Airport Tycoon 3, you would think it is one of the worst tycoon games to ever play. Is that the case? Not really. True, the game is a little slow and it may cost some money and time before your airport gets on its feet, but if you can be patient, there's really nothing to complain about. First things first: build your terminal, runway, taxiway, planestand, airport maintenance, and your plane maintenance, emergency buildings, such as fire and police stations, and you'll be good to go.
Also, in order to get contracts, build a few admministration buildings. One important thing to remember: don't get past the -$5,000,000 dollar range: I know those of you who have never played this before might be thinking "How can you get in debt five million dollars?", but once you understand that the runway costs a million alone, the plane maintenance building costs a million alone, the furnished terminal costs a million alone, and they only give you $2,000,000 to begin your airport, then you might see how. Basically, just be smart and buy the essentials; that way, you can jumpstart your airport by getting contracts. The contracts are always interesting, such as Persian Airways, East Air, and African Airways, (just be sure to accept every contract that comes to you) I know, that sounds like I never got any business, but frankly, refusing contracts never helped your airport's name either. Although there are only two scenarios (Cairo and Mexico) and one new airport to build at (Johannesburg), the game itself is a fun and interesting game.
While it's not done to perfection like other tycoon games have been, it rises to meet the a-little-above-average mark in fun and gaming terms.

Here's my take on it:

+ the game is very well done. The interface, graphics, and sound are all top-notch. The animations and character units are believable and behave accurately enough. The interface is very detailed and allows you as much control as you could
desire from any management game.

- the game requires immense patience. Even after you build all the required items to get your airport running you'll wait a long time before signing airline contracts. Even with the game on the fastest speed you could wait 5-10 minutes of real time just to sign up one airline flight! Sometimes two weeks of gametime will pass before you get an offer from an airline. If you don't mind the waiting then this aspect won't bother you.

In summary I found the game to superbly designed but to be lacking in entertainment content. Waiting for something to happen with no recourse to affect it is often not that amusing. If you value fun over realism then you'll probably have a similiar take on it. If you favor realism then you'll probably love this game.
