"Didn't last 3 months!", Worked great for about three months. Then network performance went through the floor. Switch was completely useless about a week later. Sent back to LinkSys for a replacement.

"Make sure you get ONLY a Revision 3.0 switch !!!", Signifiant changes have occurred over the life of this switch. Version 1 had an internal fan and was quite noisy, albeit cool running. Version 2 & 2.1 eliminated the fan. However capacitor C251, sitting next to an internal heatsink is prone to failure after 6 - 8 months, resulting in dropped packets and link connections. Version 3.0 has solved this problem with a complete re-layout of the printed circuit board (PCB), with a redesign of the power/voltage regulation. The new version, still fanless, runs MUCH cooler than version 2.1.

"Horrible product - Both units failed", I bought 2 of these units, and in 6 months they both started failing within one month of each other. DO NOT BUY!!!

"Two of these failed", I bought two of these Linksys gigbit switches for small networks in two different offices. Each one failed within four months of installation. Diagnosing the first failure, disguised as massive packet losses, caused a couple of days of frustration before the culprit confessed. I don't have time for this nonsense, so am now using a pair of NETGEAR GS608 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch and all is well. They have yellow (slow) and greeen (fast) LEDs to show which port is running on which speed. Much smaller wall wart, too.

"Died after 1 year", Product died after one year. Since it has a lifetime warranty I have requested an RMA return. We will see how the replacement does.

"SD2008 Ver 2.1", The one on my desk worked like a champ for about three months, then slowly began to experience degraded performance on multiple ports. We bought 8 of these dogs, and already 2 have gone completely Tango Uniform in less than a month.

Don't know about V3, but I would definitely steer clear of 2.1, unless you have no particular attachment to your money.

"The new model is fine, no fan, works great", Cisco should give this a new product code because the existing reviews are for the earlier model and they have fixed the problems.

The model I received is fanless and works just fine. I have not had opportunity to check out the speed, but it seems to work just great.

"SD2008 - Fantastic little Gigabit router", I received the latest v3 revision of the Linksys SD2008 8-port Gigabit switch, it has no fan, therefore no fan noise, it's dead quiet. Other than the lights, you'd never know the thing was even powered on. I don't believe it's fair to rate a product based on fan noise anyway, but wanted to clarify that Linksys has removed the fan in the latest version of these switches. I also own the Linksys SR2016 16-port Gigabit switch, it does have a fan and does make some noise, but like the SD2008, it's a GREAT switch; it functions exactly as it should, and is a rock solid switch.

The SD2008 switch itself is incredibly small (about the size of a Nintendo DS) and has a metal chassis, so it's rugged and has a great overall appearance. You could easily fit this little bugger inside a desk drawer or a small shelf, it has a small footprint, which is a bonus considering this switch does have eight 10/100/1000 ports. I get near full 1 Gbps speeds over the SD2008 and have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. It's reliable, inexpensive, well-built, and rock solid. This one gets 5 stars.

"Well built, works well as expected.", I bought this to upgrade from a 5 year old 10/100 linksys switch. The quality of this product is immediately apparent. It's made of metal (aluminum I think) and has s very solid feel. The metal should help with heat dissipation, which was a problem with my old switch. The entire unit is real compact and is smaller than one would expect from looking at the picture. Performance, setup is great. No problems. btw...I have version 3.0 which is fanless.

"Nice piece overall", The switch does its job. It would be nice if there was an upgrade to move Version 1 models up to 2.1, I had one of these given to me for christmas and I bought one christmas morning. Both came from here at Amazon and I received one of each model. It also would have been nice for the switch to be bigger, it is the width of the eight jacks and that is about it. Overall the product performs well and will be in my rack for years to come.
