"disappointing" i got this to replace a d-link gigabit switch switch. it worked for a few months, then the other day, something went wrong & it stopped transferring packets & just flashed its link lights. resetting it didn't help. i pulled it from the network & replaced it with an older linksys switch i've kept around. discovered both my imac & my lacie 2big network raid were still unable to connect. resetting their respective ethernet settings finally restored my network but gave me quite a fright. the lacie 2big network raid is still not right - see my review of that gadget.
i'd previously had a higher opinion of netgear. now i think i'll stick to linksys ...
"Plug 'n play gigabit simplicity" As the title suggests, it's as simple as plugging in the cables & off you go. I have mine mounted on a wall in my basement, so heat, as others have stated, isn't an issue. This device is the interface between my PS3 & PC, & I've noticed a huge performance difference between this & my Linksys WRT54G I was using before.
"Switch vs. Hub" I had a 5-port HUB (using 3 of them) across the room from my main system. When transferring files I got a steady stream of collisions. Really slowed down the transfer due to all the retransmissions.
The SWITCH was truly Plug & Play. Plugged everything in and it worked. It did all the address look-up and handshaking without human involvement. File transfers now run at full speed with no collisions.
Highly recommended.
"Works great, nice little item when you need to share offices" Our company is growing by leaps and bounds to the point that we have several offices that are being shared. When the offices were built there was only a single data port going to each, so rather than hire someone to come in and pull new wire to each of the offices, I instead used these to share the office single dataport.
They work great, and I have had no problems.
"Simple, dependable switch. No mess, no fuss." For years and years Netgear has been producing a line of metal enclosed unmanaged (read no need to mess around with configuration) network switches. This line of metal enclosed Netgear switches have a proven track record -- I've used a dozen of them over the years without encountering any problems.
This 5-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch continues this flawless track record. I picked up two of these 5-port switches to ensure that my newly wired-for-Gigabit house maintains Gigabit speed on my internal wired network, only dropping to 100Mb/s Ethernet when network traffic crosses onto my router and then upstream to my DSL modem and beyond.
The Switch is small and light enough to be stashed out of the way attached to the side of a desk with the included mounting screws. The switch has two keyholes cut in the base of the unit. If you carefully position the two included screws in a vertical or horizontal surface (to mount on the underside of a table) then the switch will slide onto the screws to securely hang the switch.

What our customer's say!
"Three units dead after a 3 to 5 years", I bought two of these switches five years ago when the price came down to $60 on sale. The first one started acting bad after three years. The second one started acting bad after five. Both have intermittent problems at 1000BaseT speeds (100BaseT is fine). My buddy bought one on the same day as me. His completely died after five years. Except for my very first Netgear router, this brand has not failed to disappoint. I'm sticking with the cheap Airlink stuff.
"Outstanding speed", Outstanding speed, but more suited for under desk or wall-mount than on top of your desk because the lights are on the same side as the cables. In other words, to see the lights, you'll need to have the cables staring you in the face as opposed to being hidden on the back of the unit and flowing off the desk.
"Xbox Live, Easy as Pie !!!!", Bought this and just like a phone splitter, i went str8 from the modem to the switch and off 2 my xbox and off to my comp and bing badda boom ,Lickity split , Plug and play .....No laggs nothing~ cake walk for splitting your ether net lines for Xbox live,
No software to deal with and NO lagg while im using the comp at the same time and playing a multilayer Gta match and Others~ props to Netgear
NO need for a router, now i dont have to unplug my comp and then later plug it back in and vise versa over and over again....
"NetGear switch", Got the product I ordered. Came with all accessories in good condition. Works great. Would recommend this seller to others.
"Easy to install, simple to use", This was purchased to create a fast link to a new HOME SERVER with a gig NIC. It was PnP, that simple. Just make sure you use CAT 5e or CAT 6 wire. to get the speed

Read this reviews before You buy...
"first one showed up dead", No real magic to this product. Does what its supposed to it ... be an unmanaged switch.
I held back a couple of stars because the first one showed up dead i.e. had the well documented Netgear blinking lights of death syndrome. Excellent service by Amazon and the replacement has been working well for a few months now.
"Works well", I have had no trouble with this switch. Other reviews suggested some major issues, especially when using two together. I think that maybe there were runs of defective products, or people with miswired networks? Not sure. Have had no issues, does not run hot, even after transferring large (gigabytes) amounts of data, still fairly cool to the touch.
"Excellent gigabit ethernet switch.", The Netgear GS105 is an excellent business grade unmanaged gigabit switch. Just plug it in and forget about it. It's business grade features assure top performance and reliability, including store and forward, auto speed and crossover on all ports. I use this unit along with the GS108 switches and have never had a single problem.
"solid product", Bought two of these switches to upgrade two Netgear 10/100 switches in my home network due to the purchase of a gigabit NAS RAID device. The 10/100 switches became an annoying bottleneck in the network after installing the terabyte NAS device.
"Works great - simple setup", So pleased with this switch that I bought a second one! Very simple set up, just plugged it in, done. Worked immediately with both my Linksys router system and continued to work without a hitch when I switched routers to a D-Link.
