Others say...
"Avent makes toxic products. Do not patronize." Do not patronize products from Avent because Avent is one of the most vocal pro-BPA manufacturers because of its functionality, regardless if it poisons our children. Buy from Playtex or Born free. They are more responsible. Dont buy this garbage. I am a doctor and I bought these bottles at first because of the marketing, I threw them away when I found out they are poisoning my child.
"No where near as good as Ventaire" These bottles have been used in the UK for years. I bought one and my husband made the passing remark, Oh, everyone uses these back home (him being British). When shopping for bottles while I was pregnant, we'd bought the Newborn set of Playtex drop-ins, a gift-set of the Ventaires and it wasn't until my son was about 2 weeks old that I bought one of these.
My son is now 11 weeks old and I can honestly say that I only use this bottle as a last resort. My husband and I, both have had problems with leaks, though not terribly so. It isn't due to the lack of following instructions, either. As I said, these are the most common ones my husband has used in England and he's very familiar with them.
The main reason I don't like these bottles is that the vents are on the nipple ring, allowing the air to pass through and aerate the formula, contributing to gas, which is thought to be the main cause of colic. The slower flow nipple is still too fast for my baby, even with him being a big eater. He has trouble controlling the flow on this bottle, that's where he gets messy, stuggles to feed, gets frustrated and then refuses the bottle. The ventaire bottles allow the natural vacuum in the bottle to suck air in through the bottle of the bottle via a thin silicone membrane on the vent rings. No air enters the formula and bubbles stay far away from baby's tummy.
Like others, I too, have found that the nipple isn't helpful to a breast/bottle fed baby. The shape looks like it would be helpful with latch as the pacakge suggests, but, really, any wide neck bottle provides a bit of latch help just as much. The silicone on these is just too thick and firm.
If you do want to try these bottles, I suggest putting in an anti-gas agent, like simethicone (Mylicon, I use the Wal-mart brand... much more affordable), into the formula before shaking. This will greatly reduce the retention of bubbles in the bottle, and burp your baby well. I also suggest getting the nipple slower than what the package suggests.
Just remember, bubbles going through the formula means bubbles in the tummy, and bubbles in the tummy means gas and discomfort.
"Just Ok" I am not impressed by these bottles. Yeah they work and I guess get the job done. However, they DO leak and are not breastfed baby compatible no moatter how they are advertised. My son will drink from them when he HAS too but never is happy afterwards due to the gas it causes in him. I am not looking for a better option. I am glad they were a gift and I did not spend any money on them.
"Contain BPA" I'm a little concerned that this product showed up on a list on Amazon.com when I searched BPA-free bottles. I've used Avent bottles with both my kids, but now I am in the process of switching to something BPA-free. As I was looking for options, I searched Amazon.com and Avent came up as an option. These bottles contain BPA. I think this is misleading potential buyers!!
"Super Easy!!! Great bottles!!!" For my first baby, I tried to do what I thought was absolutely the best. This included using Dr. Brown's bottles. I wanted to kill myself every night when I had to come home and wash FIVE different pieces for EACH bottle (and have to stick the thin brush into all the holes, tube, etc). For baby number two, I wisened up and used the Avent. LOVE THEM!! and...my baby is still being breastfed at night (10 months old) and uses the Avent bottles at daycare during the day. No confusion. He loves both and so do I. Take it from me - just do yourself a favor when trying to adjust to motherhood....keep it simple and give yourself a break.

What our customer's say!
"Contains BPA, don't buy!!", These bottles contain BPA, a chemical that mimics hormones and can disrupt develop, especially in infants. We had these bottles and have replaced them with glass bottles and stainless steel sippy cups. Avent pacifiers also contain BPA, steer clear of these products!!
"BPA - Bad plastic", Unfortunately, these bottles contain BPA that can leak into your baby's milk if you heat them. When I found out we immediately switched to Evenflo glass bottles. Otherwise I actually liked the bottles. I liked the wide opening that allows for easy cleaning. I hardly had any leaks, only sometimes when I didn't screw the lid on just right or when the nipple wasn't pulled all the way through. What I didn't like was that they are not compatible with any other breast pump except Avent breast pumps. However, Avent breast pumps never worked for me, so that was a major bummer. I think someone makes conversion kits for Avent bottles so they might fit onto a standard bottle sized breast pump. Why can't they make these in glass or at least in plastic without BPA?
"LEAK!", These bottles are horrible! They leak no matter how much or little you tighten the ring.
"Avent system: excellent quality bottles and nipples, some concern about BPA with heating", Despite the concerns about BPA we are using these bottles for our daughter, and using canned formula to supplement breastfeeding. The concern with BPA seems to be heightened when the bottles are washed with hot water, or sterilized at hot temperatures. We bought this sterilizer, but have stopped using it. However, we still use the dishwasher, which is fairly hot. I am keeping an eye on Avent's statements:
http://www.avent.philips.com/en_US/products/philips_avent_on_BPA.asp?Int_origin=1_CP_baby_side_us_en_BPAStatmt
We keep using them because they seem to be really excellent bottles and nipples, she feeds easily and doesn't get a whole lot of gas. The nipples are designed so that you can graduate her to faster flow nipples as she gets bigger. We are hoping that the BPA concerns will turn out to be unwarranted.
"BPA", I tried these, however, after calling AVENT I was informed that the bottles contain BPA! I switched to the tempo liner bottle and my son took the change fine.

"AVENT BOTTLES CONTAIN BPA BISPHENOL-A.", I liked Avent Bottles, my daughter Liked them too! Then I found out about Bisphenol -A being used to make the Bottles. After re-searching Bisphenol -A, I discovered that exposing my baby to harmful chemicals with the potential for long term affects later in life, was definitely not for me!! There are other options out there, all glass bottles are safe, as well as Born Free, Mam by Sassy, Green to Grow and Adrini. Do your own research. I'm really surprised the non Bisphenol -A Free bottles haven't been recalled yet! I'm sure it's just a matter of time, before enough people are educated.
"Just have a bit of patience", I used these with my daughter and *HATED* them, that was almost 5 years ago. No matter what I tried I couldn't get them to stop leaking. Now that I have my son who's almost 5 mos, and Avent products are now made by Philips they have come a long way. I've noticed they no longer leak at the slightest over tightening like they previously did. It's also very easy to avoid the over tightening too.
After the bottles come out of the dishwasher I put the water in them so they're practically ready to go. Run the nipples under water then attach to the bottle watching the ring/nipple. The nipple will stop and grip the edge of the bottle, once this happens the nipple is on and won't leak. Once you get around to using the bottles when you will notice that when you go to tighten the nipple/ring again it will stop at that point and there are no leaks. Even my husband can get these bottles right on the first shot and he overtightens EVERYTHING!
If you're pregnant or are considering these buy one and practice assembling it. We switched to these from the Ventaire because 1) my son didn't like the textured ring on the nipple, and 2) there were to many parts to get together in a hurry.
"my son loves these bottles!", I must say, these bottles are awesome! When my son was born, we had a random mixture of bottles. we tried each one. they all had pluses and minuses. We loved these bottles because there are only 3 pieces, they are strong and they look great! my son loves them because they are easy to nurse out of. the other bottles we had, he would fuss and start crying, we would change nipples and he still just was not happy. But these Avent bottles he just sucks away, and I swear, he drinks out of these alot faster then the other bottles too!
"Breastfed Baby Loves Bottles", I like the Advent bottles and have a breastfed baby. We've had no nipple confusion as alluded to by one of the previous reviewers, but we waited until she was 4 weeks old to start using a bottle. As for leaking, if the cap isn't on properly, then yes, it will leak, but so will any bottle. If there's any leaking, it comes from our daughter getting distracted and not sealing properly - not the bottles. We love that these bottles came with the newborn pacifiers. I think this is a great starter package and would make a great gift.
My one and only disappointment is that although the set comes with the larger bottles for larger babies, the nipple sizes are a for 0-1 month. True, we've been using them through three months, but it's time for the larger nipples and if you're including the larger bottles, why not the nipples that go with them? Philips Avent Medium Flow Nipple, Avent Fast Flow Silicone Nipple
"Contains BPA/ Bishpenol A I'm Returning All Avent Products!", Just wanted to inform all parents out there that AVENT products contain BPA/ Bisphenol A. I'm returning everything to Babies R Us. It's in their pacifiers and bottles and I'm pretty sure their breast pump as well. Needless to say I am returning my sterilizer, bottles, pacifier and pump. I then decided to go with Born Free bottles and sterilizer,Soothie pacifier and the Gerber Nuk pacifiers, and Medela pump. All their products are BPA Free. You do the research and decide if you will buy or continue to use their products. I've already written the President, my senators, and Oprah. Hopefully together we can keep our children safe.
