"Kinda Expensive Gadget", I used the Trim Loc tool for the first time to trim out a door casing. What I found as the tool's only useful feature was how much quicker it was to mark the reveal line (vs using the combination square). I tried to use it for the measuring and either the tape kept falling out of the tape hook slot or the Trim Loc moved off the stock. I guess in theroy it works better if you use the tack holes but how is that a time saver. I'm sure mine is heading to the dusty bottom of drawer #3 in my workshop.

"For amateurs not pros", This might be useful for a DIY newbie, but any pros thinking it's something a tool junkie needs to hang trim- forget it. Just another solution looking for a problem.

"Very handy.", Use it to do the trim on the inside of a whole house. Cut the time in half. Very few recuts with this.

"Great Tool, I own 2 of them for even easier installs", I bought 1 because I was going to be installing new trim on all the doors in my house, and then got a second from my wife for christmas. It was actually a good thing. I have the first one nailed down on a lond piece of 8" wide Pine which I use to measure the length of the cut that I need. The second one I carry around with me and use to mark the door jam for measuring, and then to line up the trim for install. I reccomend using a nail gun instead of a hammer because I found you need a third hand when trying to use the hammer and the tool.

All my reveals were perfect, and the miter cuts were right on.

The main diffrence between the metal and plastic is that the metal tool is 1/4" reveal and the plastic is 3/16" reveal. I thought 1/4" is a bit much, but the 3/16" looks perfect. For those worried about using a plastic tool, it has held up perfect for this project, and will be fine when I go to replace all the trim when I replace the windows.

This is a great tool, and really sped up the time it took to install the trim.

"Terrific simple tool!", I was skeptical of this tool's value when I first purchased it, but now I can't live without it! I have been doing a lot of interior trim work, and I use it constantly! I have never before been able to get better results hanging straight, level/plumb trim with such even reveals! I'd highly recommend this to any finish carpenter, novice or professional!

"handy tool", this tool really comes in handy while installing trim. one thing they could have done to improve it would be to make the bottom corners a sharp 90 degree angle instead of a round one.

"Nice Stout Tool - NOT Aluminum", This is a handy little tool and I look forward to using it. One small disappointment relative to the other reviews, this one is not made out of metal. It is solid plastic. Still stout, but not aluminum. (I didn't see any disclaimer that the existing reviews were for a different product).

"Trim Tool", This item seemed like a good stocking stuffer kind of thing. Haven't used it yet, but it appears that it will be a time saver.

"Makes mitered casing installation drop-dead simple", If you install mitered casing trim the standard way, you do the two side pieces first, and then measure for the top. I used to have all kinds of troubles getting the top piece's angles to be exactly 45 degrees and form a tight miter. It turns out most of this was probably due to the left and right pieces being ever so slightly not plumb.

This tool is a big help for that -- just pop it in the corner of the jambs and put the mitered side piece against it -- boom, perfect 45! Now your top piece will be nice and 45 too, and you'll save time cutting and tuning.

It costs as much as if it were made from stainless steel or perhaps platinum, but it easily saved me 10 minutes per side of each door I did, and lots of trips to the saw, so I'd say it's worth it.
