What our customer's say!
"Well...Here Comes the...Game", WWE Smackdown- Here Comes the Pain The fifth installment in the dynasty that went on to become Smackdown VS Raw doesn't disappoint in it's best game yet. Here Comes the Pain (HCTP) fixes almost all of the mistakes that WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth had. This wrestling game is a perfect fit for anyone that hates the tunnel vision story mode of WWE Smackdown vs Raw and the games that followed in the franchise. In many people's eyes, this is the best Smackdown game ever produced. Many also believe that this is the greatest wrestling game of all time.
Graphics- 9/10 Bill Goldberg looks exactly like Bill Goldberg in real life. Lesnar looks exactly like Lesnar. The Rock looks exactly like The Rock. Everyone in the game looks exactly like they do in real life. There is no excessive shining on the wrestlers like there is in the newer Smackdown VS Raw games. One complaint I have is that Triple H looks horrendous. THQ can never seem to accurately model Triple H. This is a big step up from Shut Your Mouth, which looks fairly bad as far as graphics are concerned. Also, to top it all off, there is barely any loading time.
There are very few graphical glitches in the game, but they don't really affect your gameplay. If you do a move to someone on a table, but you fall off before the move is executed, you will find your opponent still having the move to him in mid-air. This is minor and everything is fine after the move is finished.
Created wrestlers still look fairly bad. With the right amount of time and a good online guide, you can recreate just about anyone. If you are the type of person that hates spending hours trying to adjust little, tiny details, you will end up will an average looking CAW (Create-A-Wrestler) with not much about him/her.
The moves and animations all look stunning. Nothing seems unrealistic or too bland. This is wonderful considering the sheer amount of animations the have in this game. If your character wants to do a chokeslam, there are multiple different animations of that move for you to use. This allows you to have varied CAWs.
Story- 9/10 Story mode in recent WWE games have been considered interesting, but not worth playing though more than once. This game was before voice-over was put into WWE's games, so you will not be trapped into and linear storylines. There are storylines, but any wrestler can be apart of them, not just the ones that have Voice Over for it.
There are some extremely interesting storylines that you will play though during Season mode. You may have a manager of your choosing and someone is trying to steal her from you. You may be working for Mr. McMahon, or you might choose to oppose him. You might just be going for the Tag Team Titles. It really depends on where your character is on the card.
There are no limits as to where a wrestler can be on a card either. If you want to play as Ultimo Dragon and win the World Championship, it is possible. If you want Lesnar to go for the Hardcore Title, go right on ahead. The storyline is very flexible, but there is just enough of it to keep you playing over and over again.
Sound- 8/10 There is no voice over in this game at all. So don't expect commentary or your favorite superstars to speak their mind. There is no licensed music in the game either. I personally am glad, because those songs get repetitive and commentary is usually lackluster. Instead you have a techno/rock/rap remix type soundtrack through the game. It is nice on the ears and isn't repetitious.
In-game sound effects all sound decent. The Big Show's Chokeslam still have a slamming sound before the opponent is even slammed. Most of the other sounds in the game are done realistically.
Gameplay- 10/10 Usually this is all that matters in making a game good or bad, the gameplay. Here Comes the Pain has created the perfect arcade wrestling style game. Matches are fast-paced and full of exciting moments. A new grappling system has been created just for this game and it works to perfection. Instead of only being able to do 4 moves, your character can use 16 moves now.
The roster in this game is the best in years. You have favorites like Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, Triple H, The Rock, Steve Austin, and many more. Then you have tons of smaller level superstars like: Matt Hardy, Ultimo Dragon, Rhyno, Test, and many more. Also, after gaining them through Season mode, you will gain Legends like: Roddy Piper, Road Warriors, Ted Dibiase, and again you will get many more. This is one of the most balanced rosters you can find. It doesn't matter what type of wrestler you like because they are all here.
Match types are vast as they are in all WWE games. This is the first time that the Elimination Chamber match is playable though, and boy is it fun. You get all your normal cage matches, Last Man Standing matches, and other WWE matches. You also get to play the new Bra and Panties match, which is fun for a play or two. These matches will allow up to six players at the maximum. This creates a ton of multi-player goodness.
Season mode is very well done. You can choose who you want in Season mode, and you can choose what Roster everyone is one. This means you can actually make Brock Lesnar and Triple H on the same roster finally. You don't always have a storyline in Season mode. Sometimes you can just drop by the General Manager's office and pick up a title shot assuming your Superstar Points are high enough. This is very fun and enjoyable.
The game's AI is nearly perfect. I have only noticed a few glitches in cage match and ladder matches; they will sometimes just sit and watch you win the match. This rarely happens though, and they are usually wonderful.
Difficulty- 9/10 (Note- This is how much I like the difficulty) The game itself is not that hard when it's on normal mode. You won't dominate everyone, but it's pretty easy to not lose. On the other hand, Legendary difficulty is extremely hard. Superstars will reverse almost every single move you do until they finally hit their finisher and win the match. It takes a ton of practice to even get close to being good enough to win a match on Legendary.
Brock Lesnar, who happens to be the game's cover boy, is probably the hardest wrestler to beat on the game. He dominates nearly everyone in his path within a matter of a few moves. When you think about it though, you can always play as him and dominate if you want. He's be a good choice for your first play through.
Overall- 9.5/10 This is my favorite WWE game, and I've played No Mercy. Nothing can touch the gameplay mechanics and the sheer fun of changing around your rosters in Season mode. If you haven't experienced this game yet, I suggest you give it a try.
"The Best Ever", This Game Is So Good that its 2008 & im still playin it. its way better than smackdown vs raw 2008. I think the only game that can be mentioned in the same sentence with this epic game is the 1st smackdown vs raw. but here comes the pain blows it outta of the water. all around a good game with a bunch of wrestlers & the best feature that story mode continues & your still the champ untill you lose it unlike other smackdown games when after the season all yoru hard work is gone & you lose the title. Also the story mode is 1 year long
"AWSOME GAME", The best game made from WWE you have to have this game it is exciting, fun to play with friends cant wait for it to come in the mail I would not suggest any wwe game to be better
"one of the best games you will ever play ", well this game had one of the best storylines in this game better than SVR07 and SVR 06 you will enjoy this game
"Fun even for non wrestling fans", This game is okay, and cast of characters is great, but, once you get into connecting punches, it is rather simple .
For instance, you get Goldberg and get into fight; run and press x, opponent is down. Press O plus up and you will knee his head. Get away and wait for him to get up.
Run and press X, and repeat untill his body and head are red on damage meter and then pin.
You can also pin after you connect few shots and a slam after. Point is to be less 'damaged' or to connect many damaging attacks, last one being L1 attack, which is usually done after you kick opponent with 101 kick , down left and x or down and right and x.
You might need this...

"Unbelievable progress", When you look at wrestling video games for home consoles 15 years ago and today, it's unreal how much progress has been made. I remember Wrestlemania for NES. You could pick one of 6 WWF superstars and do punches, kicks, a back punch, an eye poke, a head butt, and a running drop kick (if you were really lucky you could do a top rope move, a cartwheel, or a bodyslam). That was pretty much the whole game summed up.
When I play this Smackdown game though, I feel like I'm watching TV. That's how great the graphics and camera work are, especially for singles matches. Some of the wrestlers look EXACTLY like their WWE superstar counterparts. Beautiful, beautiful graphics. Even better, the Hurricane walks like the Hurricane. HHH wrestles like HHH. Classic Undertaker wrestles like Classic Undertaker and Biker Undertaker wrestles like Biker Undertaker. Booker T's knee drop and Flair's knee drop aren't the same. Booker T's knee drop looks like a Booker T knee drop and Flair's knee drop looks like a Flair knee drop. The detail of the moves is just as sharp and impressive as the detail of the graphics. I can't imagine getting much closer to reality in a wrestling match than this.
Still, even this amazing game isn't perfect. There's a cell match which is awesome, and an elimination chamber match which is awesome, but the steel cage match is actually inferior to the Wrestlemania 2000 N64 steel cage match for some reason. Also I like the N64 game reversal system a bit better. In this game I can't reverse much more than a few grapples and german suplexes. No turning DDT attempts into Northern Lights Suplexes, or hurricanranas into powerbombs, and if so I see it very rarely. Also there are so many moves I forget which buttons do which moves sometimes. Still, most of the moves are fairly simple, involving two simple steps, and although a bit more complicated than in the N64 games the grapple system is actually a pretty good system and allows for what might be four times as many moves per character. Wow.
The season mode is pretty fun. Once you get the title you can lose all the non-title matches you want and still get to keep the belt. Unfortunately, if you play the season more than once, it will repeat the same storylines quite a bit, especially if you choose the same options you chose in the previous season.
Even on exhibition matches in easy mode, this game can be somewhat challenging. When I was put in a handicap match against Kurt Angle and Kane there was no way I could win.
There are a few clipping bugs that we all know and love in this game, but you don't see them much unless you're trying to do something really crazy with a table. Speaking of which, I love how you can set the tables up in corners, and catapult your opponents through them.
Whatever flaws the game has will be forgotten instantly when you easily land a beautiful 5-star frog splash. My gosh, I love the progress wrestling video games have made.
The crazy thing is that this game is actually an old one. Smackdown vs. RAW 2006 must be beyond phenomenal. While everyone's spending big bucks on that one, if you're short on cash, get this Smackdown game. It's awesome, and a cheaper price makes it even sweeter.
"Tons of fun for you and your friends", This is an awesome multiplayer game, with a good season mode too. The TLC match is AWESOME, especially when trying to fight for the title belt hanging from the top. This match can last for a while when playing with your friends. The elimination chamber is also a lot of fun. The season mode is fun, but after going through it about twice you have seen all of the different possible stories most likely.
"This game is killing me. ", Yes, this game is killing me because Im so addicted to playing it. I purchased it a year ago and Im still playing. I just lost my whole summer playing this game.
I really hated smackdown when THQ first created it for the PS1 (I was hooked on the N64 wrestling series). I first noticed that the smackdown games started to get good with Smackdown "Shut your mouth". "Here comes the pain" is even better (except that there is no Hulk Hogan). THQ has done an amazing job making each wrestler as individual as the real life counterpart. Everything from taunts, entrances, and moves (all motion captured to perfection). The graphics although a bit cartoonish are really amazing too (better then any smackdown game previously).
The roster is really great too. In this version you get some of the biggest powerhouse wrestlers ever. Kevin Nash, the Big Show, Undertaker, Big Poppa Pump, Kane, Batista, Brock Lesner. Also greats like Shawn Micheals, the Rock, Stone Cold, and Legends such as the million dollar man, and Hawk and Animal.
If you like Divas, this game has alot of great divas. Sable, Lita, Torrie Wilson, Stacey Keibler, Stephanie McMahon, Jazz, Victoria, Trish Stratus. (Sadly, no Molly Holly, Gail Kim or Chyna).
There are a bunch of small things that could be better. First, they should have included Hulk Hogan (He makes any wrestling game better). Another gripe would be the create a wrestler mode. I thought the clothing selection was horrible. I guess the steel cage matches could have been better too (but the hell in a cell is awesome, so that kinda makes up for it).
Graphics=4.5 Commentary=N/A (none) Music=4.5 Fun Factor=4.5 Replay value=5 Controls=5
Total=4.7 STARS
This game is now under 10 dollars pre-played. Its well worth that price.
"Excellent Game ", First of all this game is pretty good it's missing some stuff: {Commentaray} {A little more superstars} {More weapons to use}
Overall this gaeme is really fun to play with lots of kinds of matches such as: Last Man Standing,Elimination Chamber, Elimination Tag, 6 man Tag Team, Battle matches: Fatal 4 Way, Triple Threat 6 man Battle Royal, Hardcore Match, Hell In A Cell, Steel Cage Match, Handicap Match, Single, 2on2 tag, Royal Rumble, Lumberjack
How to do your oppenent"s finishers first get two finsishers and then hit x and down when it says L1 press L1 + L2
Helpful Hints for season Mode Don't talk a lot of trash because you will get beat up and lose points. You'll have a lot of title defenses
If you're someone small and your facing someone big I don't think you'll big able to pick them up
All the Arenas 2002 Vengeance 2002 Summerslam 2002 Unforgiven 2002 No Mercy 2002 Rebillion 2002 Survivor Series 2002 Armageddon

HAVE A LOT OF FUN OF PLAYING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Best In Smackdown series", This game is w/o a doubt the absolute best in the Smackdown series from pretty much every standpoint, even its follow up SVR seemed to be a step behind this. I actually traded in my copy of SVR to get HCTP again its alot more realistic and accurate. So if you want the absolute best this series has had to offer so far then this is the game you want. Excellent
