Others say..."'ESPN sports series',awesome!"After playing the 'ESPN Football',it reminded me of the early 1990's 'Sega games'. You have unlimited ability to 'create player' and 'edit player',meaning you can give your player's 100% superior ability. It's not limited like 'Madden Football',where you get a certain amount of points to 'create a player'. One flaw I noticed about this game is 'overtime',the A.I.,if it's on the opponents '20 Yard line',it will use all 'four downs' and pass the ball in the air,it will not attempt a 'Field goal' until the 'fourth down'. Another thing that gets me is,the A.I. never uses the combination of 'Half- Back' and 'Fullback' to 'run' the ball 'up the gut',it will mostly use the 'Halfback'. Using 'halfback' and 'fullback',is like a 'punch' and 'pop' momentum. Anyway,I loved the game,I've also got the 'Basketball-by SEGA','Hockey-by SEGA',and will get the 'Baseball-by SEGA'(comes out in March 23,2004). All these 'SEGA Sports series' have unlimited 'Created Player' and 'Edit Player',meaning you are not restricted in 'Player ability'. I recommend all four 'SEGA'S Sports series 2004','ESPN Football','ESPN Basketball','ESPN Hockey',and 'ESPN Baseball',the best 'Sports series' I have ever encountered for a long time!!!!!! "Really fun game..."This game is really fun to play, I rented it for just 2 days and played half a season already. Some high points on the game are the graphics. The graphics are amazing, and a step above Madden 2004 in my opinion. There is awesome animations, if you score a touchdown, the player might jump in the crowd, show the home team fans cheering, or they may dance around. They also show cheerleaders, and players on the sidelines talking. Another high point are the halftimes. After the first half, the Chris Berman Halftime Show will talk about key drives and show actual snapshots from the drives. I always watch the halftime show. The gameplay is killer. If you change the difficulty, they will show the odds, like on passing offense, they'll show Human difficulty and CPU difficulty. During the game, there is double team tackles, and 1 hand catches that are almost impossible to catch. If you cause a penalty, they will replay it so you can see the foul. If a player makes a nice play, they will bring the player profile on the screen and say a piece about him. Some low points are First Person Football. You can actually play football through the eyes of a player. It's actually good on defense, but if you are the QB, it's hard to see your recievers before you get sacked. The "Crib" is just stupid, sure you can save trophies and unlock mini' games like Air Hockey and Paper Football but who cares? You have to play First Person Football to unlock the games, which I'll never do. Some last notes involve commentary. I don't mind the commentators, but after a few games they can get repetitive about the players. Anybody beats Madden though. He is sooo annoying. So overall, it's better than Madden 2004. They are both good, no doubt, but Madden gets repetitive about everything, from commentary to loading screens. The gameplay is worse too, but not by much. I would recommend this over Madden, but they are both good.
"Excellent Football Game" This game is insanely fun. I never thought I'd find a football game equal to Madden, but Espn Football Quickly shattered that thought. Controls and Graphics: If you have ever played Madden you will be right at home here. The controls are almost identical and are very simple to learn. The graphics are excellent. The ESPN look and feel really add a lot to the game. It really enhances the feeling that you are controlling a real game. Gameplay: The gameplay is very fun. Passing is a bit difficult at first, due to the cheating computer (who gives you all of 2 seconds to throw the ball before drilling your QB into the grass), but you'll learn quickly. The running game is insanely easy to rack up yards in (I routinely get 650 yards rushing a game, and no I am not amazing at football games). So how can I give this game 5 stars as a football game? It's fun. Even if it is a bit unbalanced and unrealistic at times, the game rocks . It has an incredible amount of unlockable stuff, and many differnt modes. One huge problem: the commentary is extremely repetive, annoying, and bad. Also, the computer sometimes calls cheap penaltys on your team. Even with these quibbles, I had a very fun time playing ESPN Football. Whether you buy this or Madden is completely on prefernce: both games are excellent. Another fine year for football games.
"'User friendly'!" I've played some 'football game' video games, and this thing is 'user friendly'. I noticed in a lot of other video games, you have to press alot of buttons to make the 'football player' spin, tackle, run, speed burst which confuses you after awhile. In this game, all you have to do is manuevre the 'player',the computer tackles, runs, catches(when your the reciever),computer releases ball at right time(when your the quarterback),which makes it easier to play this game. In alot of these games its hard enough to 'run','catch',and 'throw',but like I said, the computer does all the 'tedious work',without, which would make a game boring after a while. I give this game '5 stars',because 'Sega' gave the computer the tedious work, not the person who plays the game.
"Excellent game that needs a few tweaks." You can make most the tweaks yourself using the many options in the game. Franchise mode. Lots of stuff to unlock. Online play with stat tracking OnLine. Next years game with be much better like it always is.

What our customer's say!"Best Football Game Ever!", The First Time I played this I was at my cousin's house. It was so fun. Then on June 2, 2004 I was in a Blockbuster store and they had games to buy. This was one of them. I bought it and I played it. It was still fun. "ESPN vs. Madden", Let me first begin by saying that I have played both football games. I bought Madden the first day it came out and was hooked out. Owner mode turned me into Jerry Jones. But about 4 months later, I found ESPN foootball for a measly $8. I called up my best friend and we got hooked. I love the openning to sequence with an aerial view of the stadium, watching the players get pumped, and the commentary. My jaw dropped. Gameplay - The best I have ever seen. Although on the pro level it is too easy to break big runs, playing on the all-pro level, it feels a lot better. Playing with Ricky Williams, I continously pounded for that 3 yards and cloud of dust. I also loved the feeling when you tire out a defense and watch Ricky explode into the secondary for a 20+ yard run. However, there have been many games were I have just been straight up stuffed. My last game against the Pats got Ricky 23 carries for 67 yards. The passing game takes a little getting used too but it works. I have to admit that Madden's passing mechanics are a little better. The hook and curl routes were my forte in madden, but they don't seem to work as well in ESPN. As far as defense is concerned, the DBs come to play. Playing with the fins, I loved playing bump and run because Madison and Surtain just shut recievers down. Sacks and DL moves are more realistic and frequent. And I love watching the tackling animations and the linebacker pursuit is just a beautiful thing. Commentary + Sound + Graphics - All top notch. Even the fans and thier painted faces. Presentation - No one is better then ESPN. You can freakin watch NFL Primetime for Christ's sake. Primetime is my all time favorite show and to be able to watch it in May brought tears to my eyes. And I love the halftime show, Chris Berman rocks!!!!!!! The Crib is cool to. Few negatives - Franchise mode - Not as deep as Madden but it will suffice. I love being able to break alltime records in Madden as hard as it was. I also liked being able to see carrer stats. Although, ESPN does keep track of carrer stats of players, you are only lucky to see them in a game. Also the salary cap is really annoying. In Madden if I have 7 million left in the cap room, don't take 3 million away if I sign Antonio Bryant for a 5yr 3 million dollar contract. I hope ESPN makes the leaps and bounds Madden made with the Franchise mode, because if they do, Madden is going to be in hot water. If ESPN develops the franchise mode where you can track individual players carrer stats and make it as deep as maddens, then ESPN will have created the ultimate football experiance. But I do have two wishes: 1. Harder Hits - I want to punish recievers with Rodney Harrison for running routes through the middle. 2. Mel Kipper - I want him to analyze some of the rookies. Put a face on some of these rookies so I don't feel like I am drafting a name.
"good", i bought this game because of the details behind it, the stadiums are awesome and the players look very real, at first it feels like you are watching an actual espn game ( how cliche), but its not realistic sometimes, i mean i know that INTS are common and its part of the game, but for some reason i always end up throwing about 4 a game!!!! especially when im close to scoring i mean those LB. are jumping jack flash, they catch everything (or maybe its me and i simply suck!!!) anyway besides that its a pretty good game, i hope 2k5 improves on some of those little flaws. love those giants but they sadly suck!!hehehe!!!
"I own EA & ESPN games....and let me tell you !!!", I own both EA Sports College Football 2003 & ESPN NFL Football 2003 (Sega's 2K-series). In fact, I've been purchasing these two titles for the last three years. The reason I'm pointing this out is because I know what both EA and ESPN have to offer, so I can offer a fair assessment. The main thing I want to point out is that BOTH EA & ESPN offer top notch games...period. There is a lot of entertainment, depth, and value in the games that these companies produce. In all honesty, the game I play more often is EA College Football and the simple reason why is because I prefer college football over the NFL. The game really captures the atmosphere of the college game and does so quite well. But...if I had to pick the better video game, I'd give a slight edge to ESPN. I feel the ESPN A.I. is more accurate and challenging. I can set the difficulty settings the same on both games and it takes a lot more thinking to win consistently vs. ESPN than it does against EA. The ESPN A.I does a much better job of using all the plays in it's play book and really mixes things up quite well. EA seems to re-cycle through a smaller portion of it's playbook. And more often than not I've put away my EA opponent by halftime and simply end up going through the motions for the remaining quarters. In addition, ESPN does a better job of picking up your tendencies and will forcing you to adjust as necessary. I'm not going to break down all the other nuances of these games, as that would take far to long. Basically, some people prefer one titles gameplay over the others. That doesn't mean the other game is automatically crap, like many players out there seem to infer. I suggest you do your own research and form your own opinions. Rent Madden & ESPN NFL and play them equal amounts and then purchase the game you like best. This is the only way you'll end up purchasing the game that suits you best.
"Mostly Good, a little Bad", The game has great positives, most of which you can find in these pages. Here are the negative aspects of the game - and assume everything else is OK. *Franchise mode: the trading is not very realistic (but better than 2K3), nor are the salary progressions. why doesn't another team ever make an offer to me aside from the trading block? i shouldn't be able to sign free agents and then just trade them away for draft picks to teams who didn't want the player in the first place. does anyone ever take a paycut when they don't even play? and why will free agents not even play instead of taking a reduced salary? no player ever demands to have their contract re-structured. and could the salary cap maybe increase after 5 years or so? and what's up with repetitive emails? when i win the super bowl the team owner sends me a 3 line email that basically says 'good job, you better win again next year or you are fired'. Depth is needed, but overall its much better than 2k3. *Statistics - holy dick butkus, batman, the CPU players can rack up over 15 tackles in a game and 200 tackles in a season while my best linebacker can muster only 5 a game and 40 or 50 a season if they are lucky. but amazingly, when i play these same super tacklers, they never make more than 5 or 6 tackles and usually less. along the same lines, CPU offenses average twice as many plays a game as i can, resulting in amazingly high offensive output, which i can semi keep up with by averaging more yards per play, but still....CPU QB's and RB's generally have much higher attempts, unless they are playing me and then it amazingly goes back down to what i'm averaging. more realistic numbers needed.... *Gameplay - why does only 1 guy a year get hurt on my team? why are all defenders unable to tackle along the sidelines? why won't the game camera zoom back during a pass play at the goal line so i can see my outside receivers? how does travis henry simultaneouly shrug off keith brooking, mike brown, and julius peppers on multiple rushing attempts? why do my highly rated offensive linemen just watch defensive ends run by them without trying a few times a game? why can't my fullback ever pick up the incoming blitz instead of running out to block the safety? how can the 180 lb CB's flatten ricky williams on his back at the end of every run play? alternatively, how can the rushing game be so easy? why is defensive pass interference only called on 3rd and long? why have i never seen a holding penalty called? and why are the commentators always right about the challenge call? can the lob pass be made a little easier to throw instead of just bullets or rainbows? playing on the all pro level shouldn't mean that every average player becomes dan marino or lawrence tayor. ok ok i'll stop - you get the point. despite all of these picky items, the game is great and I enjoy it tremendously. you can't go wrong buying it as the good outweighs the bad 90% to 10%. can't wait until next year's edition!!

"The Good Stuff", This game, ESPN Football, is an amazing game. It has amazing graphics, especially the parts of the face. Also, it has a fun place called the Crib where you can play Airhockey and even paper football; it's unbelieveable. You have to get this game. It's the best playstation football game ever, guaranteed. Go Colts.
"not fun", When i played this game, it was very fun acept after playing for a long time i got headakes and bruises and stuff like that. My mom had to take away the game for a while because she dint no why i was getting hurt. I do not think this game shuld be sold any more becase i dont want any one else to get hurt.
"A Football Fan's Dream!", This game is awesome. The graphics are outstanding and the commentating is amazing. In season mode it even has Halftime shows and NFL Primetime with Chris Berman. Usually, I am horrible at running the ball although with all the cool and easy controls I ran for over 200 yards! But that's not all with First Person Football you can play inside the helment(although it's kind of hard to play QB in this mode). If you love football buy this game.
"espn football", Espn Football is probably the best and the greatiest football game for Plastation2,But thats just my opinion ! But you can rate it what ever you want. Oh and some of you poeple might think im CRAZY by rating this game a five! from cass mckay to all readers of this note!
"Footballfanatic", I've been playing the Madden series since it's inception and I have to say they still have the upperhand for a few reasons. 1. realism. The grinding out of 3 yds here, 5 yds is the way NFL football is on Sunday. Period. 2. Playbooks: The design a playbook feature really allows you to get creative, and I believe the playbooks in madden really are more accurate depictions of the true franchise you play with. 3. Graphics: I own both titles and I have to say that Madden again takes the cake. I have read a few reviewers say that Madden is "cartoonish" take a look at ESPN, the movement of the players is very awkward. Now that being said, the 1st person view while very difficult to get used to is really about as close as you can get video game wise to being in the game. Passing is a little bit of a challenge due to limited visibility, but that again is what it's like trying to find passing lanes through 300lb lineman.. this feature has me going back and forth between the titles. As for the traditional gameplay, Madden all the way, not even close.
