"I trip"
Does not work, and am working with the seller to see what else I need to make it work.

"Is not compatible with latest model of the Ipod Shuffle"
I bought this to go w/my husband's Ipod Shuffle. He has the latest version of the Shuffle, the one w/the click wheel. I was under the impression, based on the description of this product, that it would be compatible. Unfortunately it is not. Wish I had known before I went and ordered it.

"Better than newer transmitters"
I have an older iPod and used this iTrip with very few problems. I got a new video iPod and have not been able to find a transmitter to match this one. The primary benefit is that this iTrip will transmit on 87.9, which I have found to be the best freq to use anywhere I've been. EVERY transmitter since this one begins at 88.0 or 88.1, and that's where the radio stations start.

There are a couple of drawbacks that have been mentioned by other reviewers, but they can be overcome. If you have your iPod set on random shuffle, it may go to a different freq if it "selects" it during the random play. However, if you know anything about iTunes, you can select the frequencies in your iPod and exclude them from selection in shuffle mode. It's a simple setting in your iTunes. Another drawback is that it uses the iPod's power to transmit, but I have a cigarette lighter power cord and I simply plug it in when I use it. Problem solved.

Don't throw out your old iPod! I use mine with this iTrip in my vehicle, and my video iPod for everything else. Especially now that it's cheap ($7 I think) it's definitely worth the money.

"This product for verry old iPods"
I bought this item about a week ago and I already regret spending my $1.20 on it. I bought this item thinking it would be for the newist iPod generation, but i was wrong. If you look at the picture closly, you will notice that something extra is comming outta the iTrip. This plug-in is for iPod with Click Wheel (the second iPod made). DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY UNLESS YOU HAVE THE SECOND GENERATION OF IPOD!!!

"There are much better FM modulators available now..."
When I purchased this product many years ago, it was an amazing device. It was powered by the iPod itself and allowed frequency changes directly from the iPod as well.

Since then, FM modulator technology has increased by leaps and bounds. The iTrip produces a constant, high-frequency tone that's higher than most people's hearing range. Not mine, unfortunately. The iTrip also required special tone files to be loaded into your iTunes playlist to change frequencies. Not a big deal, but a little cumbersome.

Note that this product does not work with current iPods.

What our customer's say!

"A waste of $7.", I looked at the price and forgot to read the info. It doesn't work with an iPOD nano without some type of adapter. I didn't go through the trouble of figuring out what type of adapter that was...

A friend suggested that I get the Belkin, because it has better transmission anyway. I went to Best Buy that day, bought it for about $85, and it works perfectly. It charges my iPOD in the cigarette lighter, too, and it works with ALL iPODs, so your friends can plug theirs in too during long car rides.

Just go to Best Buy.

"Just doesn't cut it.", The problems I have with this product are not specific to just this product but to all ipod-to-FM devices. The sound quality is just terrible and it is very hard to find a middle of the band station to use. Basically you get the best speaker sound separation when you use a station in the middle of all the stations. If you live in a metro area this is impossible, and even out here in SD it is pretty much impossible. Also FM just cannot handle low end bass sounds and causes the sound to crackle when any bass is introduced.

Bottom Line: Just find another way to hook up the ipod. If you have a tape deck use a cassette tape converter. If not then find some way to rig the ipod to the sound system using rca cords. Using FM devices just makes music sound horrible.

"Not that great", This device has weak power. Good luck if your car has one of the newer style antennas for the car. I was not impressed with the iTrip.

"Solid, Inexpensive Mobile Solution", First, it always amazes me to read comments/reviews panning a product because the purchaser did not do their due diligence to find out if it is compatible with their particular iPod. How the manufacturer is blamed for this is hard to understand, particularly as Griffin in explicit about which model iTrip supports which model iPod.

This is a fine, inexpensive solution to getting my old U2 G4 playing through my car. It attaches quickly and interfaces very well with the iPod itself. The quality is more than adequate for most urban and all rural use areas.

The unit has enough power to effectively broadcast through my car and home radios static free if I am within 10-12 feet or so of the receiver or antenna. The design of the product does require that you find a vacant FM frequency in your listening location. So, if you are undertaking long distance driving from major metro to major metro, there is some hunting and pecking to do, but this is about a 30 second inconvenience every 60 miles or so. In smaller metros and rural areas, this will likely be unnecessary in your travels.

The included CD works flawlessly, the instructions and simple and clear, and the Griffin website still offers support for this legacy product. Compared to a $200+ iPod adapter installation at your local auto sound shop, there is plenty of value here to make this a worthwhile purchase.

"Convenient AND reliable", Seeing the variety of other ipod transmitter products out there, i chose this one because it was cheap, and there were no extra fancy digital displays with extra wires hanging, etc. It's just a simple plug-in unit. The compact design also makes it easy to just keep the iTrip plugged into your ipod without it getting in the way.
Another reason i decided to write this review is that this product is pretty reliable. My 2 year old son found this on my night stand and somehow it ended up in my laundry. It went through the washer and the dryer. I figured it'd be time to buy another one, but lo and behold, the thing still worked perfectly. I was shocked. This is a great product and you get can them super cheap here at Amazon.

"Waste of money!", Disappointed it did not work well. Terrible sound! Invested in a more expensive option and love it. You gotta spend to get the best.

"Perfect for your car", I drive a work truck, which only has an AM/FM radio in it, and the iTrip was exactly what I needed for my 4g 20gb iPod. As many have pointed out, the quality of it, can depend on your locale. You basically have to find an open frequency on your FM dial. I've been to a couple different cities with this, and the station 87.9 has always worked for me, with little problems.

I do seem to get overlap with XM/Sirius transmitters too (At least in my city, it seems they have found 87.9 to be a good channel for it as well) so I am forced into having to hear Howard Stern or something on the way to work if I'm next to a vehicle that has one. But I've found just placing my iPod in my lap, or resting my arm over it helps clear the signal to my own vehicle.

When the iTrip is working normally (which is the vast majority of the time), I think the sound quality is fantastic.

A lot of people have claimed that if you use the "shuffle" feature on your iPod, the iTrip stations you have to load will come up in it. But if your confident that the station you've chosen will always work fine, you can delete the playlist it makes. It will broadcast just fine, you just will not be able to change frequencies if needed.

I'm actually on my 4th iTrip, and I haven't had the software loaded since the first one, over a year ago. The new unit always just plugs in and picks up where the last one left off. I have managed to break the previous 3 iTrips by just being to rough with it, or simply dropping it.

I highly recommend anyone who has an iPod that will fit it, get this. At the price you can't beat it.

"This version works the best!", This version of the iTrip works the best. I don't know what they did with the new versions that have the LCD. I have tried both that display the LCD, the one that docks on the top of a 4th generation Photo iPod and the one that docks at the bottom of 4th and 5th generation iPods. And they both don't work as well as this original version.

This original version you can clearly sit far away from the radio (about 30 feet) and have no static. Unlike the LCD counterpart that if you just are a few inches away, the signal starts to fail and gets weak.

I just ordered a few of this suckers, because the price is great! I originally purchased this version when it was $30+, but at these deals, it is good to have a few spare in case one gets lost or broken.

"hard to learn at first",
The way this thing works it's a bit hard to figure it out but it serves its purpose.

"Buying my 3rd now", I have always loved the iTrip and I'm buying my 3rd as I type this. The new one is out and costs $30-50 and this one works perfectly fine and is now CHEAP! This one connects to the top of your iPod and works with a mini as wel as 5th gen, so my husband and I both used it with our seperate iPods for at least 3+ years with any problems. Software is installed on your pod as a playlist and it works out of the box on 87.9. Lower frequency channels broadcast best in NY, less interference. I put it in the cup holder or seat next to me and its fine. LOVE IT!
