Others say...
"Enjoyable" I would recommend this game to those who have enjoyed the Myst series. Puzzle difficulty - medium to very hard Puzzle interest - some are interesting, others are only busy work Game length - could have lasted longer Plot - good plot, but the twist at the end seems more of a break off Sets - repetitive at times, but good overall Ending scene - like most point-and-click games, there is a lack of a bonus cut scene at the end (Where is the payoff?!) Music - at times lacking Voice acting - very good
"If you liked Myst, you'll love this one" Don't worry - this review is spoiler free.
Let me start by saying, that if you enjoyed Myst, you definitely won't be disappointed here. Also - disregard the negative reviews by idiots who can't get the game to run on their computer, or dummies who claim that the puzzles are too hard. This is a PUZZLE game, not a shooter!
Puzzles are where this game shines. I found them just the right difficulty - not impossible, and yet hard enough to give you a sense of accomplishment when you advance. I'm an engineer, so I love to tinker with machinery (virtual in this case) trying to get it to work. Be prepared to make a lot of tables in your notebook, when tackling some of the more complex puzzles. The ability to model the problem in terms of equations, and knowledge of different bases will get you through most of them. I completed the game in a week, with a total 10 hours of play - didn't need to refer to walk-through, though I accidentally solved two problems while still looking for relationship between the parts.
I'm not too crazy about the Graphics. Maybe they were something a few years back, but in 2007 they're just passable. Also - for some reason 3D puzzle games make me nauseous (I actually stopped playing URU because of that). I wish the developers just stuck to pre-rendered environments as in Myst (Myst IV - Revelations was the most beautiful Puzzle game I've ever played).
The story is not bad, with a nice twist at the end (you won't see it coming). And, yes - the annoying "actress" at the end had to be a developer's girlfriend (if you check the credits half of them are Polish - and during the game you'll notice most names are derived from that language as well). The girl at the end has the same accent.
To sum up - this is no Myst Revelations - but close enough. So far I haven't found anything better.
"Mysterious Journey 2: Chameleon" this game was a gift for my brother. He enjoyed it
"Mechanical Problems up the Wazoo" My husband and I are experienced puzzle game players and huge fans of the original Mysterious Journey. It was with great anticipation that we started this game, but we have officially given it up halfway through.
Our biggest problem is that our machine, only one year older than the game's release date, with a decent graphics card, does not have the right setup for this game's graphics rendering. Stuff flashes in and out of visibility, the cursor comes and goes, people's arms detach from their bodies, and any prolonged animated scene completely mucks up the whole works to the point that the machine has to be rebooted (IF we can access the save screen at all).
We may have been willing to fight longer if the game had drawn us in more, but the puzzles just aren't as interesting as they were in the original, except for a couple of good mathematically-based ones. Also, the puzzles were extremely linear; there was rarely a matter of collecting information in general towards solving one of several open mysteries (as one encounters in, say, Riven), but always just one puzzle you needed to solve at a time, and always of the "solve this so you can get past this door/bridge" variety, which got a bit repetitive.
We moved on to a different game in our "to play" pile... and were sad to leave this one unfinished, but just couldn't take it any more.
"Puzzles that make sense- and lots of them!" I like puzzles that make sense and these did. You push a button, you see the result without having to hunt around for what's going on. For example, in Mysterious Journey 2, there's several puzzles where you have to form a circuit or connect one side of a grid to another by clicking on dials. )...very straight-forward puzzles. Draw the grids out and it is not difficult to work out on paper. In another, you find your way across a fog enshrouded pathway (very cool!) by plotting the path from below.
While there is very little having to combine information from several sources to figure out a puzzle, it does occur once or twice druing the main part of the game and again at the end. And there's a few math-based puzzles, too, in varying degrees of difficulty. (Hey, that's what Universal Hint System is for!) Still, gamers with more experience than I might not have much problem wtih them.
An earlier reviewer mentioned that 'half' the time a puzzle led to nothing- just an area to look out of. I'm not sure where the reviewer is referring to, but I did not find that to be true. You open a door and there's something to find, learn about in a cut-scene, see, or do behind it.
The storyline is interesting and well developed, and the ending is satisfying.
As far as graphics, I'm not a tech person, but I found them to be very pretty. I wish I could have roamed a bit more in a few places- the graphics looked just too inviting to simply view from afar! The landscape is filled with bright colors and intriguing designs. This is not click and point, so you are able to move about freely.
The music is not great, but at least it does not detract from the game. The voices are fine- a cut above most games. The mechanical voices are done with a bit of special effects- a nice touch. The computer-rendered people move fairly naturally. You have little control over settings, but in my experience, the game ran fine. (Athlon 64X2, GeForce 7600GS)
I wish there were more games like this. Puzzles clues that are scattered hither and yon only to make little sense is not my idea of fun. I would recommend Mysterious Journey 2 to anyone who wants an easier game that does not over-tax their brain.

What our customer's say!
"mysterious journey 2 much work, not enough inbetweens.", This has very good problems to solve. I just felt they were a little too close together. I like to do more exploring and information gathering than this one offers. I loved Schizm. I havn't finished the game yet but I will finish it none the less. I enjoy the games regardless. Sandy Simmons
"Uh, Barf!!", I just installed this game and played it for 5 minutes and I literally want to throw up. The graphics are awesome and the game looks like it would be really fun, if it weren't for the 1st person navigation system. This full 360 degree viewing is totally gross. it's like you are inside a sphere, and when you move the mouse the sphere rolls the screen around, so every single thing you want to look at requires the entire screen to move, at a disgusting rate. i slowed the mouse movement down as far as it would go but it was still like i was on a rollercoaster. Have you ever seen clockwork orange? you know how they forcefeed the guy images to cure him and he freaks out, well that's how i felt after 5 seconds of game play. 15 minutes later now, and i still have motion sickness. give me still images please!!
"Horrible!!!! Bad puzzles, doesn't make sense, really uninteresting", I just don't see how anyone could like this game. The puzzles make little sense, and the game just didn't interest me at all.
It starts off in an ugly, dark spaceship, and by the time I FINALLY got out of that level I was VERY ready to move on. But instead of taking me to a level with something interesting to look at and interact with (which is the ENTIRE reason I bought the game, for the beautiful backdrops), it plops me into another uninteresting level with a bunch of weird pods and laser lights.
The game never gave me any clue as to what I was doing or more importantly WHY I was doing it. I had no interest in any of the EXTREMELY difficult puzzles, and I ended up just wanting to get the heck out of the game,
I read one reviewer's comment (who was a mathematician), and he said some of the puzzles were even difficult for him!
I will never buy any more Mysterious Journey games. They just aren't worth it.
"Mysterious Journey 2: Chameleon", I am not a good review writer. As a fan of adventure game I found this game to be excellent!
"MEH...", If you grew up on Myst and Riven, you will be disappointed. The graphics are ok, the music is ok, but I can deal with sucky graphics or music if the story and puzzles are worth it. Sadly, while the puzzles are somewhat tough and interesting, they are all separate and not really related to the actual story. They are just there to be there. You figure one out, you move on. Not like Riven and Myst where almost all the parts of the game connect with each other, and everything adds to or advances the main plot. Speaking of which, while the plot in Mysterious Journey has POTENTIAL to be interesting, the writing and voice overs are so corny that it falls flat. I have been searching for a game that can stand up to the Myst series ever since (sadly) UbiSoft decided not to make anymore. This one isn't it. However, if you are REALLY REALLY bored, it will amuse you for a while. Just buy it used so you don't waste your money.

"A Thought-Provoking Game... not for the faint of heart", Having finished the excellent prequel Schizm: Mysterious Journey, I thought I would give Mysterious Journey II/Chameleon a try. Was it ever worth the money!
The storyline: Excellent. As you (or your character, rather) travel throughout the story, a little bit more of the plot is revealed. Prepare for a major twist at the end!
Characters: Colorful, to say the least about their costumes. Both tribes have their own "special powers" and live in villages that reflect their preference to living: with technology, or living among nature.
Graphics: Detailed. Especially the living ships (if you've played Schizm, you know what I'm talking about!) You are taken through so many different locations that the creators of the game must be praised for the diversity of each place.
Puzzles: Last but definitely not the least. Like its predecessor, the puzzles in Chameleon are challenging but worth the effort. A guide book or hints are not necessary (though I did need help in one part with changing bases) but the rest of the problems CAN be figured out. These games aren't meant to be rushed through in a day, nor are the puzzles meant to be completed using hints for every step of the way. This is a puzzle game, not an action game. Use a piece of paper and YOUR BRAINS to solve these puzzles. For example, when you have to navigate a ship through a maze of reeds using the breath/wind of the four statues on the walls of the cliffs, try to figure out the possibilites of moving (I don't want to give away too much here...)
I read the other reviews posted on this website, and I have to say, I don't understand why people are slamming this game when they either don't back up their opinion or claim it doesn't work on their computer and still give it a poor rating when they haven't even played it yet!
Bottom Line: Having played the Myst series, Dark Fall 1 and 2, Schizm, Sentinel: Descedants in Time, among other notable puzzle games, this one is well worth getting. Not only will the graphics tempt the imagination, but the puzzles and the plot provide hours of entertainment and stimulation.
"One of the first of a new breed", This was one of the first adventure games to take the 1st person mouse driven detached gameplay of the Myst series and bring it into the 3d free roaming platform, and is met with mixed results..The amount of freedom for traditional adventure gamers up until this time was pretty much point to where you want to go and you will be taken there..With Mysterious Journey 2 you had the ability to apporach your investigations from any angle you like, taking your time to explore the areas in your own way..On the flipside, the advent of 3d rendering unfortunately diminishes the personality that pre rendered art has afforded adventure games throughout it's genesis..Let us hope studio's will find a way to reconcile both elements into a new and improved hybrid.
"Ahhhh! Not again!", I recently played another game that had the same problem as this game did on my computer. You have to have a specific graphics program to run it. I have a Dell with a Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics card which works well with most things. MJ II needs something called a TnL(?) compatible card to work. As a result, I have people coming out of doors and THEN the door opens, after which the people are back on the other side of the door. Or, people leave a room, and then the dialogue section where they are IN the room plays. That part doesn't really bother me that much because the story line is pretty much boring and doesn't make too much difference to the players quest through the puzzles. Actually, there doesn't seem to be much relationship between what the characters say and what the players do. For instance, at one point, the player is taken to meet the leaders of a group and after a discussion, the leader says, "_______" (can't remember the name) "will take you to your quarters." Then, they all disappear. No one has shown you anywhere. You are exactly where you were and your quarters don't really exist in the game. The other thing I don't like about this game is that if you aren't a real math buff, you won't be able to figure out some of the puzzles without looking at the hints. Really, guys! How many people out there know to count in base 4 or base 12? With what reference were they directed to do so? I played Syberia and loved it. Boy, is this one a disappointment! And to think I wasted good money on it! Bah!
"This game has bugs and no support from The Adventure Company", On 2 different computers of mine, this game has "mysteriously" uninstalled itself so many times that I have just finally gave up. Any game this unstable is not going to be a part of my collection. I have played the game and then went back to play it again and the shortcut is gone along with the exe file and everything else. No other game has ever done this to me before. There are also no patches for this game at all. And all The Aventure Company has on their website is the usual b.s. of "make sure the cd is clean, make sure you have the latest drivers, shut down all programs before, etc...." It's too bad. This game had potential but be forewarned of the complete lack of support and bugs before buying it.
"It's a RIPOFF!!!!!!!", This game is a ripoff of the MYST games. From the MYSTerious to just the overall game, you're much better getting the phenomenal MYST games. Honestly, don't spend your money on something that's only a small fraction equal to the beauty of MYST, Riven, Exile (well, MYST and Riven beat Exile...), or Uru.
