"Beyond Good", Beyond Good & Evil is a rare game which attempts to do almost everything and succeeds. It's by and large the most fun I've had playing a PS2 game in the entire time I've owned the system, right up there with Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. While there are some minor issues which keep this from being a masterpiece, such as camera issues and an occasionally questionable story, the game really is wonderful. The story is enjoyable, the controls are fluid and well balanced, and the difficulty operates on a good curve.

I recommend this game to anyone and everyone with a PS2. You won't regret the purchase.

"Best little known treasure", Ever since I started playing this game I am hooked! Always on the lookout for an exciting PS2 game, I came across this. The graphics are good and game play is very entertaining. I like that you have free range on exploring the town. You have missions but no time frame in which to complete them. And her 'uncle' the pig is funny.
The only thing that I find bothersome is that you talk with the pig constantly, but if you ask him a question it is done via subtitles. Strange. Overall this game is one of the best, with a great price to boot!

"A classic enjoyable game", I just played this game quite a while after it came out. I just played it in July 2008. This is probably one of the best games I've played. It's a beautiful game to play. It's so well thought out and polished. There is a great depth to the types of game play within the game. There is exploring, problem solving, stealth, racing, fighting, action, platformer action, and others while all being very much story driven with a fluid interaction between them all. The characters are interesting and alive. A lot of games that try to cross genre like this can feel patch-worked where stuff like the puzzle solving doesn't really fit with the action very well or something like that and can feel like they just bolted on some parts of the game. This game does the cross-genre better than any other that I've seen. So much so that I didn't really notice that it was cross-genre while I was playing it. It all flows together so naturally. There are times even when some of the aspects will flow into each other in surprising ways that give a great deal of depth and realism to the game.

On top of all that the story is very interesting and unique. There is a playful and loving atmosphere in a very dark storyline. It was enjoyable while playing, and even after. It never felt forced or stilted in it's delivery which seems to be the norm for games unfortunately.

The graphics and music and sound are great. The UI elements are amazingly easy to use. For instance, the wheel keyboard is the best text entering device for consoles that I've ever seen. Amazing since there is so little time that you actually use this device and how smoothly it works and innovative and intuitive it is. It made what's normally a painful thing to do in games to an interesting and actually fun thing to do. It's this type of polish and the attention to details like this that puts this game way above other games. There is so much variety in the game that is all done so well with the player's satisfaction in mind. Thoroughly enjoyable. After finishing the game I wanted to go back and explore the world even more. I know there are some spots that I didn't see and some more photos to take.

"A great game you've never heard of", Ubisoft's 2003 release of Beyond Good and Evil went by without much spectacle. I myself didn't hear about it until a few years afterward, references to it as being a great sleeper hit. And it wasn't until 2008 that I got around to playing it.

It's very apparent the game was inspried by the legend of Zelda series, especially the Ocarina of Time / Windwaker. It is a bit more stealth instead of straightforward combat, but the general feel and interface is very similar. Of course, that's not to say it's a bad thing. While it doesn't quite measure up with the Zelda games on sheer gameplay alone, this game has something Zelda game don't: an excellent plot and characters.

The game took me about 10-12 hours to play through (I wanted to collect everything you could in the world) and it was enjoyable throughout. It was just about the perfect length to not get bogged down on.

Just about the only thing that gets the game 4 stars instead of 5 is some annoying camera issues that tend to crop up at bad times (like when you're trying to sneak past somoene, something you'll be doing a lot of in the game) and the controls felt just a little sticky/delayed...though this might be just the nature of the game showing its age.

"Beyond", Thats a good name for it Beyond...its an Ok game , just lacks alot od pizzaz i would have wanted.But its an adventure and it is what it is . A simple game .

"Move aside Jak, Ratchet, Sly, a new platform is in town.", When first playing this game, i was fresh off of Ratchet and Clank:UYA and bored to tears. I was about halfway through replaying Jak 3 (3rd time) when a friend recommened Beyond Good and Evil. I looked it up on Amazon and it was selling for about 5 bucks! I got it and while i was wary at first, this game won me over. The storyline is intriguing, the gameplay smooth and seemless. While you won't find any guns or weapons that kill mass amounts of enemies, Jade's cane-thing (forgot the name) is extremely simple yet fun to use. There's also a gadget that throws little disc-blades, which you find many uses for (such as blowing up the oxygen tanks of the guards that are common in the restricted sectors of this world). It wasn't marketed well, admittingly, but this game, to my opinion, blows Jak and Ratchet out of the water. The gameplay graphics arn't as good as J&R, but close enough you don't care. Also, the cut-scenes are comparitive to those in Kingdom Hearts 2. Yeah, that good. It's a platformer, so you get to race, run, solve puzzles, fight, repeat. But in my opinion, the action, while not as complicated, holds its own against the Ps2's best platformers. The races on your hover-boat are not as good as a Jak-based Hoverbike races, but outstripping Ratchet's hoverboarding by quite alot. The puzzles are hard, sure, but fun enough that you arn't frustrated quickly. Jak's puzzles were sometimes just annoying and Ratchet's were so mind-numbingly easy you began to wonder why the directers put them in at all. However, in this game, there was also an included "Steath" component that becomes an aquired skill as the game progresses. Just as well, seeing that you are a steath photographer. Its like the steath sections of "Sly". There are many levels in which you can choose to fight or sneak, which was a cool idea for me, because i could decide most of the time. In some, however, the opponets posses weapons that make it extremely difficult/borderline impossible to procede by fighting, so steath is the way to go.

All in all, a VERY GOOD GAME! I paid 5 Dollars for a experience I would gladly have paid 100 for. If you like platforms, or possess a ps2, you owe it to yourself to get this game.

"This one had slipped under my radar", I missed this game when it first came out, and now it can only be found with re-sellers. It's a real shame there's no way to make sure the folks who made this game got a peice of what I payed for it. This game has some very original art work and characters. Controls feel right, and the game is well put together. A good time for anyone who plays it. Though not an all time classic like 'Zelda' or 'Ratchet & Clank', it does soundly belong in the next greatest level under them. If you can find a copy of this one, it's well worth the $20-$30 it's likely to cost you.

"Not just another fighting/shooter, thank goodness", Good story.
Fun gameplay.

Not a "kill everything in sight" game. Which to me is refreshing. There are a few layers to each mission. One is to advance the overall storyline, the other is to take pictures of animals/creatures to earn money. The third is to unearth pearls to beef up your vehicles.

The stealth aspects are what drew me to this one. While with guile you can defeat difficult opponents, you can also avoid the confrontation altogether by sticking to the shadows and sneaking past them. There are many save-game spots in each level and if you should be "killed" you just start over from a step or two before the fight that did you in.

That said, my beef is that the big final confrontation is a battle royale and not in step with the rest of the gameplay.

"The most overrated "underrated" game I've ever played.", It's kind of funny how many will point to this game and say what a shame it is that it didn't succeed, blah blah blah. There's a clear and easy reason why this was the case:
the game is nothing special.

It's similar to other platforming/adventure games but inferior to them in just about every way. The combat is subpar, the story is subpar, the stealth sections and vehicle sections are annoying... it just doesn't do a whole lot particularly well. It's not a terrible game, mind you: it's just a generic one. And it was ignored for a reason.

"WHAT A GAME", What can I say.......I enjoy playing video games to unwind, and this one fills the bill! The scenery is amazing and the story line is consistent. If you enjoy seeking to find items, then this is the game for you. The game is also easy to play; you are not consumed with dying and having to restart often. You can just sit back and explore and enjoy playing the game. And for the price....you can't beat it!
