What our customer's say!
"great for preschoolers too!", My girls (ages 5 & 3) have enjoyed all of the 'I SPY' titles for the past 6 months. I thought it might be too difficult since the age range is alot higher, but they can get thru it without any problems. Occassionally they need help finding a single item but otherwise manage on their own. Even my 3 yr old can get it started and play alone with minimal help.
My husband and I enjoy playing the games with the kids as well and some items can be very difficult to find, lol.
It's a game for the whole family to enjoy.
"Nice Game, support issues on some Macs.", We have both "I Spy Fantasy" and "I Spy Spooky Mansion" and the kids like both of them. I have run them an iMac (video chip: Radeon X1600), and MacBook (video: GMA 950 chipset), 2 MacMinis (GMA 950) and am TRYING TO RUN IT on a recent MacBook (video: GMA X3100). All systems are Intel Core 2 Duo's running Leopard. The problem seems to be with the current version of Leopard 10.5.4 and the X3100 does not support the "thousands of colors" option that this game will require. Until Apple corrects this problem with the driver, I don't think this game will work with the current generation of MacBooks or MacAir notebooks.
I bought a new MacBook last week for my daughter to use and she really wants to run the "I Spy" games. Since I can't get them to run, I may have to return this notebook until Apple corrects the problem.
But if you have the right hardware, I highly recommend these games. They keep our kids (ages 4 - 11) busy.
"I Spy Spooky Mansion", Spooky but not scary - just the way little ones like it to be. Fun for kids and educational at the same time - teaches them to observe and teaches new words as they hunt for unfamiliar, perhaps, objects. Even my 3 year old grandson enjoys this.
"Learning fun...", ...a wonderful learning experience for my grandson. The I SPY series first got his attention at the library, and became his favorite, so I ordered him his own copy!
"I Spy Spooky Mansion", I purchased this item for my grandchildren (ages 10 through 5). I played it first so that I would be able to answer any questions that they might have. A couple of the puzzles stumped me at first but, over all, this is a wonderful game! Fun graphics. "Create a Ghost" is really fun. Very kid friendly, and Grandma friendly also!

"I Spy Spooky Mansion", My kids (4 and 7 yrs old) love this game. The haunted house element of this game adds a nice twist that makes this game even more fun than the other I Spy games. These games also have some educational value and are fun to play with multiple players or with the entire family. Highly recommended.
"FIX for running under Windows XP", In reading the review from Angry Dad, I thought it best to give the "workaround" for the running of this game under Windows XP.

...now...that being said. In our household, kids do not get administrator access either. I found the fix to be quite simple tho...
Log into the machine as an adminitrator START -> RUN -> REGEDIT navigate the following keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE SCHOLASTIC INC
when you are there, RIGHT-CLICK on the SCHOLASTIC INC entry and select PERMISSIONS
from there, highlight USERS and give FULL PERMISSIONS.
This will allow the game to write to this singular registry "hive" whenever it needs to.
I will be checking back to see if this has been helpful.

"This game should have been off the market several years ago", This is a further comment to the review below, since I can't respond directly to the posting above which describes a fix for Windows XP installation;
I appreciate that Mr. Norris is trying to be helpful, and his **fix** will work as described, however, it is an extremely bad idea for most people to make edits in the registry, and should not be encouraged as a fix to get around false advertising and a game that should not be sold in its current form. Any mistakes, even a slip of the finger while making the edits, can result in catastrophy (machine may not reboot next time), so it should only be done with extreme care, and by someone who knows what they're doing. My assumption is that most readers of these posts (and, if fact, most purchasers of game software for children) do not fit that category, or do not want to take that risk.
Do not reward companies that sell things to a general market that are unfit for use, and unsupported by the vendor. Do not buy this product, period.
original comments follow:
This game is not compatible with Windows XP unless your children are allowed Administrator accounts on your PC. The reason for this is that the game was written for Windows 98, and has not been updated since, despite the indications on the box that it works with XP.
Unfortunately, my son was in tears after spending his allowance to buy this game at the school book fair because in our house, kids do not get administrator accounts. When I called Scholastic to request support, their only workaround is to run the game as an administrator. They admit it was designed for Win98, and that they haven't updated it because they "haven't had enough complaints from customers to write a version for XP". All this despite the labelling which claims it is XP compatible. You must run as an administrator because the game needs to update the registry (this is an extraordinarily bad program design decision for a children's game) every time it is run.
I am perplexed at the numerous positive reviews of the game here. Either all of these reviewers are running obsolete versions of the operating system, or their kids are given administrator accounts on XP, which is dangerous and foolish. Scholastic will not refund your money once the box is open, even though the claim of XP compatibility is false advertising, at Scholastic tech support's own admission. My recommendation is that no one should buy this game unless they are still running Win98. No company should be rewarded for relabelling obsolete software and continuing to sell it as if it was current.
