"Breakthrough to Breakdown"
I have been a huge fan of Medal of Honor since I bought Allied Assault and even after Spearhead's shortfalls, but this is just terrible. This expansion pack should have been awesome, yet it failed terribly. The missions have potential, but are horrible. The African campaign where you had to defend the braindead minesweeping tanks was sheer agony. You have to stay ahead of the tanks to protect them, but if you take the time you need to kill the Germans who threaten you and the tanks, you'll likely be run over by the tanks you're protecting. It's very difficult to keep an eye on your tanks, keep moving up and shooting every German all at once. After a few minutes, it gets very tiring.

In the Italian campaign, you fire one round, ALL the Italians will know exactly where you are and you'll be surrounded in seconds. Being shot from every angle (where each shot throws off your aim) while using your Garand can be difficult, especially since there will be no health for you until much later. Later on you will have to fight off hordes of Italian tanks with mortars (as if those mortars could scratch a tank.) You're in a house with a small wall around it, you have to use these cumbersome mortars to destroy these tanks from two different directions, and if one touches the wall, you fail your mission. Even if you destroy it a split second after it touches the wall. Even though the enemy is destroyed, the enemy still has broken through.

One very annoying thing is the lack of ammunition. You have to conserve ammo like mad. About one in every 10 soldiers drops some ammo, if you're lucky. In most situations, I had to fight a group of Germans at close range with nothing more than my sniper rifle and pistol (at least the Italian pistol is decent) only to rewarded with no ammunition. It's very frustrating.

The single player mode ended twice as soon as it should have, and I was left with the feeling of "That's it?"

Like Spearhead, the shortfalls in singleplayer were somewhat made up for with improvements in the multiplayer. However the improvements were nothing spectacular. New modes, weapons and maps were nice, when I could play it. Apparently Breakthrough has a problem where when you try to connect to a multiplayer game, it says your CD key is already in use. Natrually I thought someone was using a pirated copy with my CD key. That is, until I went to their website and found out that's not the case at all. Apparently it's some bug where they screwed up and you have to pay. The explanation on how to fix the problem is of epic proportions (you have to delete the game in a special way and re-install it in a special way) and I just felt cheated. They screwed up so you have to compensate to use the product you paid for.

This is only everything I feel like writing about right now that I can remember (I gave up on this expansion months ago.) Just stick with MOHAA or Spearhead if you already have it. If you really want to try this out, don't spend over $10 for it.

EDIT: Since I wrote this review, I re-installed Breakthrough out of curiosity and the multiplayer works fine this time. I don't know how common the problem I mentioned is.

"You get what you pay for"
---- Contains minor spoilers ----

I only paid $10 for this expansion pack so I didn't really expect all that much. I'd played Mohaa all the way through without any major problems so I was suprised to find that some portions of this game are ridiculously difficult. I found I kept running out of ammo because the vast majority of bad guys don't drop ammo when you kill them.

Other parts of the game are also poorly designed such as the bit where your buddy is trying to unlock a door. You get swamped by grenade launching dudes and don't stand a chance. There are several other points which are extremely difficult too. There doesn't really seem to be a good reason for designing a game with this level of difficulty. And, yes, I'm playing on 'EASY'.

The standard cheats don't seem to work on this expansion set and I can't find any cheats online which either means there aren't any or no-one cares enough about the game to research them. Either way, the only way around these impossible sections is to jump to the next map.

There are some cool new weapons such as a powerful air-rifle, a wimpy sub machine gun, and an excellent machine gun. You also get to use mortars, ack-ack, and other heavy artillery. There's also a good dose of humor too.

Overall I'd say it might be worth $10 but not a penny more.

"battle of frustration ridge"
As a computer gamer of 30 years (you read that right), I found this to be the most frustrating piece of crappy software gaming I've ever played. If you enjoy playing one scene over and over and over and OVER until you finally figure out that you have to first do thing 1 before you do thing 2 (and it doesn't have to be something logical), then this is for you. It's one thing to be challenging, but this game takes it over the top. Ridiculous.

Spend your money on Call of Duty - EXCELLENT!

"save your money"
This game has its moments, but most of the time its more Rambo-style kill everything that moves action. Also, there is very little ammo to be picked up. The game throws a LOT of enemies at you, and several times I've run out of ammo. There may be a pile of corpses at your feet, but you can't get their ammo or weapons. Very frustrating. I am wondering if this is a bug or intentional. At one point I found a cheat code on the net and gave myself ammo that way. The gameplay and graphics are ok if you have enough ammo to survive. There's nothing here however that you can't get out of CALL OF DUTY or the other Allied Assault games. The ammo problem takes away at least one star for me. It literally makes it impossible to play on certain levels.

"Got what I expected"
Well just like the rest of the MOHAA games, I can really get into the games. Breakthrough doesn't out do the original MOHAA by any means, but its certainally more enjoyable than Spearhead. I also think Spearhead was a lot tougher than Breakthrough.

The first mission meets the standards of the original, however each of the last two missions are significantly shorter. In fact the last mission if I remember correctly was only one or two levels.

One factor that made it tougher than the rest of the games in the series is that you can't pick up a killed enemies ammo. I don't know if this is a glitch or not but in the first mission you can pick up the ammo, but only the first mission. In the rest of the missions, when I killed an enemy soldier, their weapon disappeared. This made the game extremely difficult in the Anzio and Monte Cassino when you really need full magazines. So ammo conservation and better marksmanship are required for this part.

My favorite part of the game was the additions made that were new. In a game where you are primarily by yourself, there were several times when I found myself fighting within a small squad, which they did a good job with. I also like the addition of the Italian troops. They introduced several new italian weapons ranging from side arms to machine guns.

Overall though, if you like FPS games, especially MOH games. This is a good game to have. I'm already counting down until Pacific Assault comes outs.

"Addictive Game...", This is such a fun game, I can hardly stop playing it.....I usually have to tear myself away just so that I can get outside in the real world....and I'm a 37 yr. old female....so what's that saying about me? hahaha Seriously, one of the best around, plus the Rifle Servers make for quite a challenge...if you can practice with these first...you can go to any Freeze Tag Server and usually kick [..]!!!

"Close to five stars but not quite", First of all, Breakthrough is worth ten bucks even if it is short. Ten Bucks is nothing. I am semi-surprised it went that cheap. Heck, buy it used for 5 bucks.
Anyway, about the game. The graphics, battles, guns, and sound are all very good. And one thing that I really like about it is that the AI is not so annoying. In the first medal of honor the AI would hit you without even aiming. Or they would see you even if you were extremely well hidden. The AI in this is better, and the action is crispier. Anyway, I think that for the price it is a good buy and you will be playing it through more than once.
It's a good game and was definitely better than Spearhead.

"Flawed but consistent", If you liked other MOHAA editions, then this is fairly true to the original format. Being so, it provides little in terms of new dynamics. Some new weapons, and the setting in the African/Italian Theatre add some appeal. Overall, you get what you expect. There are some very frustrating attributes to this expansion: ammo can be scarce, seemingly where it is needed most. A particular part in the game where you're fending off the enemy while your comrade unlocks a door for the longest 30s known to the universe with low ammo provided many hours of cursing, to the point where I just loaded to an earlier point, conserving ammo in anticipation of this part of the game. Thus gameplay can be stilted by unimaginative challenges. As usual, the game AI is poor, compensated by amazing sharpshooting skills of every enemy soldier. Stealth is almost useless in this games as with other MOHAA installments. But, if it wasn't fun on some level, I wouldn't have finished it. Recommend picking up cheap or used if you can. Not worth full price of admission.

"This games Multiplayer rocks!", This game is great! When I got the original I was a little dissapointed that the multiplayer wasn't working so I was stuck with the single player:( But after I purchased Breakthrough for some reason the multiplayer work and before I knew it I was slaying everyone! There are some great modes (Objective match) with some great maps too (V2 Rocket Facility, The Hunt). Anyways I want to inform you that this is a great game. So sign up soldier and get ready to be massacred by lt con da man. Thats me :) Hope you fools will try out the multiplayer!

"Review on GAme", Review On Game:
The game that will blow your mind....

Where do I go? What weapon do I use? These are some of the questions you could answer on the video game, Medal of Honor. This game is a "killer" buy. It has really good speed
(Loading), good graphics, pretty much good everything. If you ever go to buy a video game, I highly recommend this one.

(...)Isn't that such a fabulous cost? So if you really wanted a video game but your mom would not buy it for
You, show her this really, really cheap game and I guarantee
You she will buy it. Other games such as Need For Speed Underground and Enter The Matrix cost about five dollars more.

The special effects and sound effects on this game are awesome! The gunshots fill the air with a loud BANG!
The special effects are really good because the explosions on the game really and truly look real.

This game does not have a good theme for ages 7 and under. That is because it involves killing and stealing. Basically, this is a really good game. I highly, highly recommend this one.

"Outstanding Game", I got this game just a couple of days ago, and I have to say I love it. I really enjoyed MOHAA, as did most gamers, so I assumed (rightly so) that they wouldn't change much for this game. If you've played the regular game, there are really only a few small differences.

First of all, there are new weapons. You can use Italian weapons in this game, as well as 'possess' AA guns, artillery cannons, even mortar cannons. Pretty sweet really. Also, I noticed that in this game not all the enemies drop weapons or ammo. In fact, MOST of them don't. This can make for some really hairy situations where you need to conserve your ammo. Nothing sucks worse than running through a battle with nothing but your Colt sidearm as a weapon! Very challenging.

One more difference I noticed, was that the developers seemed to try and bring new themes to the levels this time. Some of it is traditional: blow up X number pieces of equipment, or steal X documents. But some levels are very unique. In one level, you must repel a tank attack with mortar cannons, while in another level you run through a bombed out city and use the enemy's artillery to blow up German tanks. Totally sweet.

Graphically it is, of course, the same. The only significant difference is some desert battles in the beginning, where sand blows around and limits your vision to an extreme degree. Simple but effective.

I cannot recommend this expansion enough. The developers have done exactly what the box says: taken an incredible game, added some weapons and new levels, and not screwed up a system that works extremely well. Way to go EA!

"Great addtion to MOH series worth the purchase", If you enjoy WW II era first person shooters, and already own MOHAA, then you need to buy this expansion pack. It doesn't offer much new other than new missions and weapons. However, the gameplay is addictive and the graphics have been improved somewhat with this expansion pack. Audio in the game is amazing, particularly on 5.1 systems. You will be ducking from the bullets coming at you from the rear speakers. Higly recommended!

"Great Addition to the series", I have been playing the Medal of Honor series since the beginning. This expansion pack adds many challenging single player missions and some great new multiplayer maps.
Graphics are great, but you had better have a good graphics card or you're wasting your time. For multiplayer nothing below a cable modem with bring the game to life. Like all games, the better your system, the better the game play.
The sounds are what made this game series my favorite.
You can find me and a few regulars online most nights playing, but if you find me, bring your "A" game, we don't take it easy on anyone.

"Enjoyable, but short experience", This is an enjoyable expansion, but no more. It plays a lot like the original Medal of Honor, which is a very good thing. For some reason, MoH always has been the first person shooter I enjoyed more than all the others. I am not sure why, but things just seem right. One just has this feeling of "being there" (which is often pretty scary!), rather than the feeling that you are playing a game. Within limits of course.

So I am happy about the gameplay. Of course one has to realize that MoH now is a pretty old game, and as with all expansions, one should not expect a massive technology upgrade. I am sure, this will happen with the next MoH, but it certainly hasn't happened here.

Also, this game seems to be lacking some of those big, impressive moments that the original game and also (to some extent) spearhead had. This expansion tries to create these great, scripted events and it succeeds better than most other games, but certainly not as well as the previous MoH games.

The AI could be smarter, but I haven't noticed any real bad issues like some of the other reviewers seem to have encountered. Once again, things seem to be at the level they were at the original game, which was impressive then, and isn't quite as impressive now.

Time-wise, it is a bit short. I played through it in a (long) evening. That doesn't bother me too much though. It was an evening of fun, I lived through some tense moments, and I do not have to spend the whole weekend on this... ;-)

I don't really share the opinion of fellow reviewers that this is overly hard. I didn't have too much of a problem playing through this, which may in part be due to the great save-everywhere system. Sometimes there are a lot of enemies, but don't freak out and just go after them one by one. I do agree that the supply of ammo is a bit short. The same is true for first-aid packs. Tip: Try to open doors and check out basements, even if they are not along your main route. Every now and then, it pays of.

I did encounter a crash-bug in the very last mission, that crashed the game to the desktop 3 or 4 times at a similar spot. At that mission, I also encountered some frame-rate issues. Hmmm... that's a bit disappointing. Luckily, this wasn't too much of a problem, once again, thanks to the save-game system. I also noticed that the collision detection is not all that great. Sometimes you shoot into an obstacle that should really not be in the way as far as one can tell visually. I also once or twice saw a machine gun stick through the wall, giving away the position of an enemy. And once a soldier just walked through the wall, although I think he actually came through the door and was just clipped out incorrectly. Anyway: None of these issues were too much of a problem, but one would have expected a bit more polish from EA.

"More of the same and that's it.", You get more Nazis to shoot. The weapons are pretty much the same as well as the gameplay. But the original game is great, so I have no complaints.
