Others say..."Realistic, fun, and deep!""Tiger Woods PGA 2004" is a very deep, challenging, and entertaining golf simulation on many levels. With several different game modes from which to choose, lots of real PGA Tour golfers (of course, including the titular phenom himself), a course designer, and more, this one will keep you entertained for a long time to come, even long after 2005 arrives with its extra bells and whistles. Creating your own golfer and taking him through a prestigious career is of course the most enjoyable aspect of this game. Entering competitions around the world to build potential and competing in tournaments to earn money to buy better equipment, fill those potential attributes, and get more stylin' threads will eat up a lot of your free time. As with most EA Sports games, once you start your dynasty, it's very hard to stop. (Especially since you can breeze through an 18-hole stroke match in under 10 minutes once you get the hang of swinging the club and using the "Esc" key to your advantage.) Eventually you'll get good enough to take on the Tour pros themselves, which is when things really get interesting and you'll need every bit of the experience you've built to beat them. You can also take one of the pros in the game through several seasons, but the career mode is where the best treasures lie. The graphics in the game really shine as well. Of course, you'll need to have a top-of-the-line graphics card in your PC to enjoy absolutely all of them, which I don't. I'm told every detail of the course comes alive, with moving tree leaves, reflecting water hazards, moving clouds, wind, etc...Maybe I'll save up and get that Radeon 9600 I've had my eye on. Still, with 1024 x 768 resolution, the game is gorgeous. The golfers have amazing detail and fluidity, and the ball reacts just like a real ball would whenever it's struck. EA Sports goes to very great lengths to ensure the most realistic experience, whether it's golf, football, hockey, or any other sport, and they spared no expense with their golf game either. (On the other hand, it's just as frustrating as real golf when you screw up...you'll know what I mean when you miss your first 32-inch putt by half a hair and the ball ends up 10 feet from the hole, or get your first 12 on a Par 5.) The realism is enhanced by the True Swing feature, where your swing is all in the wrist and the movement of the mouse. "Tiger Woods" has had this for a few years, but old schoolers like me can still choose the 3-click swing. There's even a 2-click swing option for absolute beginners. Of course, there's also online play available, which makes the game even more absorbing. Taking on anyone in the world is always fun, although you may have a hard time finding folks to play with since 2005's been out for a while. The commentary, with Gary McCord and David "Fairway" Fehrty on the mic, is decent for the most part, but as with most EA Sports games, the phrases get repetitive after a while. (I'm starting to hear "David...the angle of the dangle?" in my sleep.) Not only that, it misfires once in a while. More than once, I've sunk a wicked right-to-lefter from 30 feet and heard, "Oh, that'll make you want to stick your head in the sand." Wh-huh? It's a very small detractor, though. Overall, this is golf's total package for the PC. The arcade elements in the game add to the fun factor, and there are enough modes and unlockable features (courses, golfers, equipment, etc.) to keep you occupied for several months. You won't find a more fun and realistic experience. Yes, 2005 is out by now, and it's probably got a few extra features that hardcore PC golfers can't live without, but this game costs less than $10, and is probably just as enjoyable. For the money, you simply can't go wrong. You don't really need the latest and greatest to have fun with this title. "Good interface, if you pick the right one"When picking whether to go with this title or its rival (I'll omit the name), one big factor was the courses being featured and the overall deisgn. I liked the idea that a person had to develop their character, and build him into a champion, rather than simply setting stats and running. The one thing a person needs to look out for is in regards to which difficulty level is selected. On either the novice or expert settings, making a good swing with the mouse (pulling it back and pushing it through along the same line) is important, but novice only lets you hit the ball strait. There is little challenge, and little chance of the occasional whoopsie that accompanies a real round of golf. I played the game on novice close to the end, but it got completely boring when my golfer could hit the ball 330 yards in a strait line every time. The challenge of the game was gone, and so my interest. On the other hand, if you start on expert and work with it, the game adds the element of not only your personal performance, but also shotmaking. With novice you have to really do something weird before you hit the ball bad, but on expert it takes a better touch with the mouse on top of the possibility that what you thought was a strait shot may have had a little sidespin on it that will take it off course... or strait at the hole. Being able to hit draws and fades greatly increases the interest in the game, as you then have a huge number of options besides just picking the club you think you can hit the fairway with. The choice becomes "which club can I hit with just the right amount of draw spin to get it down the fairway in just the right place?" My advice is to play on expert from the start and just get used to everything. Graphics wise, the game is OK, and apparently vastly improved with 2005. If your machine can't handle the new version, or you like the older courses better, going with 2004 should still be satisfying. The only things I really wish the game included are more detailed equipment adjustments and selection (the ability to build custom clubs... why not?), and an expansion pack of courses. Naturally, there is probably a little matter of royalties for the courses in the game, but one or two extra wouldn't hurt, would they? "Highly overrated"Players are not different enough cause you only get Tiger. I dislike how putting is done. Too many arcade elements for a "sim" game. CPU AI is not worth playing against.
"Recommend a 128MB Vid Card" This game is EXCELLENT, IF a person has a decent Video Card. I tried it before I upgraded my Video Card. Liked it but once I installed the upgraded Graphics card, and checked all the options in the settings. The GAME CAME ALIVE! The trees move; the grass flows with the wind; and the water ripples; shadows look great; reflections on water... Great test on the performance of a PC.
"BEST GOLF SIM EVER MADE" If you want the definitive golf simulation for Windows XP, look no further than this title. This game will knock your socks off folks. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 is the best out there.

What our customer's say!
"Best Golf game for PC", I guess nobody will see this, seeing how old this game is, but you can pick it up as an 'EA Classic' for 10 bucks or less... I would advise any golf fan to do so. The subsequent editions of the game '05,'06,'07 have got progressively worse in different respects, this game is the pinnacle of the TW series.
The only tiny flaws in my opinion are that the Caddy Book hole guides don't play and that the computer players will never putt from the fringe or get their chips reasonably close, but these are pretty irrelevant when you consider the quality of the Graphics, ball physics and general gameplay in this package.
"Great Game", I say its a great game, if you like golf. Great price and always good doing business with amazon..
"You'll be dissapointed", There's no doubt that it's better from the past versions. Custom Player,Overhead Fairway view,Clothings etc. However I was so dissapointed to find out that theres a "bug" that causes your computer to crash as you make your way past the Amatuer Level, It will frequently stop and crash. This software somehow affects your video card to stall and crash. Go to ATI's web site and you'll find some listed games that has the same problem with no solution.I'm also surprise that no other reviews mentioned anything about this problem
"Excellent - Too bad I don't play like this in real life!", TWG 2004 is challenging, but not to the extent that it is too difficult. Highly recommended.
"Tiger Woods rocks!!", I have not played any earlier versions of this game and keep kicking myself as to why not!!!Its an absolutely wonderful game ... its very realistic especially in the most advanced level. Loved the number of different courses that are on offer especially St. Andrews and Pinehurst #2
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy..."Really Disappointed", I rented Tiger Woods 2004 for xbox and fell in love with the game. Best golf game ever. Only one problem, no online. So I bought the PC version with great excitement. I must tell you it is junk. The graphics are horrible. Your player looks like he is pasted on the course. There is no interaction between the ground and the feet. The sound is awful, you make a shot and the announcer gives the wrong response. Your putt drops in the hole without a single sound. By the way your ball looks square as it is rolling around. The game play depth is very limited and uninspiring. Compared to the console game you really have very little options. The controls to aim and putt are difficult and time consuming. To be honest I could go on and on with the things that dissapoint. It is a cheap port in form the console. Get the PS2 version go online and have a blast. It is hard for me to understand why so many rate it high. Maybe I am missing something. I have been gaming on computers for 5 years and this is one of the worst game I have seen. This one is rough. YUCK!! "Best PC Golf Title EVER", I really don't know where to begin. I guess I'll give my background, I was a Links guy until I bought PGA Championship Golf '99 (for the course architect). What I found was more than an architect, it was a better golf game than Links. It was challenging, but not overly detailed and intricate like Links. Well since then Headgate Studios has switched over to the Tiger Woods franschise and brought that rather sad line to the top of the golf simulation world. This lastest recreation leaves my jaw open. First off, I felt right at home switching from PGA 99 to Tiger 2004 (very similiar menus/displays). I'm also guessing a first time player of the series would find their way around easily as well. Menus are straight forward and work well. Let's just say you can do just about everything you'd want to do in golf with this game. You can just play a round, start a single season with your player, or jump into career mode where you bring yourself to the top of the golf ranks. You start out as a nobody, barely able to hit the ball straight and three-putt, but work your way up the golf world by enterting tournaments and taking various lessons. It's easy at first but gets steadily harder. Some 18 or 20 courses are included, and vary greatly. From the links style courses in England and Ireland, to the tropical paridise of Hawaii. They've even included a fictional course set in the Amazon rain forest. It is beautiful and challenging. The ball behaves brilliantly. When I downloaded the demo I was surprised at how realistic the ball reacted. I have yet to question the path or actions of the ball. You can add spin, draw and fade the ball, whatever. Being an avid golfer, I found that the game was very detailed in this aspect, providing realism and depth of play. Let me gush on the graphics. They are beautiful. We're talking individual blades of grass swaying in the wind along with the trees, birds flying overhead (type of bird depends on what course you're on). You can recreate yourself with the GameFace technology. It's really cool. And my comptuer is only 866mhz with a 64 mb 3d card, yet it all runs smooth. It is the most graphically impressive game I have EVER seen; on any platform. To sum it all up, you have a realistic, graphically beautiful game that doesn't fail to deliver. 5+ stars!
"As good as that other golf game", I have not been a big fan of EASports game for a long time now. They ruined every game they make except for Madden, especially the hockey and the golf. However, this is a very good game. I have the the last couple of Links games, and think they are excellent. But the good reviews for TW interested me, so I got it. Compared to Links, the course graphics and animations are superior. The trees blow in the wind, the water moves, and the sceneary is very realistic. It looks far better then Links. As far as the game physics are concerned, they are also very good. The golfing experience is just as good Links. The one thing about Links that is far better is the golfers animations. The swing on TW does not look real good. Its not terrible, but it needs works. Also, the flight of the ball off the club doesn't give you a very realistic feeling. Links has the edge there. If you are deciding whether to go with TW, or Links, you can't go wrong with either, both have it where it counts. But TW is without a doubt, better looking. The graphics on Links haven't improved in years. In fact 2003 went backwards.
"This game is kids play!", I've owned every Links game since their inception including Links ls 2003. I purchased Tiger Woods 2004 due to the excellent reviews. This game is a joke! Not only are the players swings unrealistic, the graphics are terrible!(P4 with 512 Rambus and a ATI Radeon 128 Pro Video Card) The sound scripts are out of sync with what is happening on the screen including what the announcers are saying and the crowd cheers. I also noticed that there is never any back spin on balls hit or turf torn up on iron shots (as in Links). If you are a real golfer such as I, buy Links ls 2003 and you'll appreciate the realism of the game. If you're someone who wants to play an arcade type game because you've never played a real round of golf...buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004.
"It's in the Game alright", I was bitten by the Golf bug after playing the PS2 2003 version (and getting a double eagle 45 minutes into the game), and preferring PC versions for patches & downloads I got Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 $20 cheaper than the PS2 version, & this is where the similarities end. The PS2 version is a dumb-down version of the PC title, the interface is mouse=club and pushing the mouse on a horizontal or vertical axis (choose either) mimics the strike of the club - sounds technical, but EA is all about sports, and they've been making sports titles for years, so it is very easy to pick up, and they did a very good job of capturing the "stage fright" feeling right before a swing with this interface, but the tried & true 2 or 3 mouse-click interface is present. You start by building a character a la The Sims - face, body size, clothes, and $5k ($50k if you have another EA sports title on your PC), then a non-linear path trying to earn more money in competitions against computer opponents (who look like they wandered in from miniature golf), buying more skills and equipment, and learning the game. Naturally as skills increase the game becomes more difficult, and the frustration factor can get really high with missing short putts or crashing & burning on a bad round that puts you tied for 4th to 46th. The announcers with their in-game commentaries are like Mutt & Jeff - you can tell they did the voice-over work as a parody & most of what they say insult only but the best players - perfect if playing two or more players, irritating if playing alone, but I didn't disable it because they give you the only advice on how to hit while on the green. Worth the $20, but only four stars because the ball or the hole disappears & the camera interface has you trying to make a blind putt from the backstop or a tree if you come to close when it could simply just pan-around, & the nine other camera angles (blimp view, tee box, opponent's view) do nothing to help you make the shot. Just technical enough for those that buy sports games for PC, sporty enough for fans of golf at any age, & the Sim-like creation of players will have you trying to make either yourself or the perfect golfer instead of hitting the links!
