"Good buy"
I happened to catch this new for $8.50. Works well and has SAME technology. Can be set for watches and/or warnings.

"Nice Radio"
The weather & storm side of this radio is great. We bought it because we slept through our town's tornado siren three months ago. Our grandson and his friend where staying over that night, and, yes, we had a tornado touch down about one mile from our house about midnight. Now, with the weather alerts we feel much more secure. However, the clock radio side has two, in our opinion, shortcomings that limit its use. First, the backlight can either be on or off, there is no brightness control. When "off", the time cannot be seen at night. When "on" it is too bright to sleep. Second, there is no "sleep" function. We like to go to sleep with the radio on and are used to our old radio which had a setting where the radio was on for 30 minutes. We can't do that on this radio. Everything else is great. Reception, alarm tone, etc.

"Good radio - but some are defective"
I have used this radio model for several years. This model has great features and can provide critical alerts from bad weather. It's not easy to set up, but if you take the time to work with it, you can control which kinds of alerts are sounded. This is a great feature if you live in an area that gets a lot of alerts and if you don't want to be waked in the middle of the night because of alerts that you don't care about.

A warning: some individual radios are defective and don't alert properly. I had one that worked well for years, then stopped providing alerts. All of the other functions worked, just no emergency alerts. I bought a replacement and this one also did not alert. I returned that one and the replacement does alert properly.

I would advise that if you get one, watch it for a week or two to make sure that it's receiving the weekly test alert. If not, exchange it until you get one that does. It appears that Midland needs to monitor their quality control better.

"AWFUL "
I'm REALLY surprised by all the positive feedback. This thing is so awkward to use and just bad on so many levels. BOTTOMLINE: I don't have confidence that this product is solid enough to warn my family when a storm approaches in the middle of the night.
First and foremost: the battery drain. If you are in a storm, and your power goes out, plan on needing extra batteries. If for some reason the giant AC adapter falls out of the wall or the power goes out during a brown out and it runs on battery backup for a day, then your batts are toast. Not a good thing from a safety device.
I think the problem lies in trying to combine with a clock radio.
Second: navigation through the menus is awful. this thing took me an hour to figure out how to program for my area, and I'm a tech savvy guy in my 40s.
Don't be fooled by the stylish silver facade. It's not very user friendly or intuitive in the way that we have come to expect our electronics to be. I wanted to buy American, but now I'm going to try something else.

"MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio "
Its from midland! nuff said. If you live in severe weather prone areas, you would be nuts not to have this radio. Large back lit display, fast and easy set up are just a few of the many features this radio offers.
Oh and trust me the severe weather alerter WILL wake you up!
