"Excellent"
Reading some of these reviews, I was reluctant to give this product a try, but I'm really, REALLY glad I did. I live just south of San Francisco and my iTrip has worked great since day one. I've found that you don't need a perfectly clear frequency for broadcast -- my iTrip successfully broadcasts even over frequencies that have some interference. Sound quality is just as good as radio. Sure, it's not quite as good as a CD, but you really can't ask for more from a product that basically hijacks a radio frequency. The only time I hear static is when there is empty space between songs. For a product that is a little over $20, this is an excellent buy.

"Great!"
The iTrip works super well in my car. I am 100% happy with the purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone. Listen, you've gotta read the instructions, take your time and make sure you understand how it works. You can't just plug it in and expect it to work. Take your time, for me it was playing around with it for a few minutes a day in my car before I became an expert. And now ... I'm good to go.

"Won't work in a city!"
Dont but this product. Maybe if you live in the middle of nowhere it will work. But you have to find a FM frequency that is perfectly silent for it to work, and even then the quality isn't very good. In NYC or Boston, there are no stations that work well at all. I got this and thought it was awesome for about 5 minutes and then got extremely frustrated as the music sounds horrible on every station around here.

"Works really well depending on your car"
I bought the iTrip fm transmitter in December and have had plenty of time to use it under a number of situations. I have also tried a number of other fm transmitters (long before the iTrip ever came out). In my parent's Lexus the sound is excellent. It took a bit of trial and error to find a good station, but once there it sounded great. In my Dodge Intrepid however which has the antenna on the rear of the vehicle, the sound often is poor unless I place the iPod in the back seat or back window. In other cars that I have tried it in, which have an antenna on the hood, the sound is generally very good. Overall I would definitely recommend the iTrip for anyone who wants to listen to the iPod while driving. It is compact, doesn't require batteries, and generally produces very good sound.

"Don't buy from these folks"
I purchased the iTrip but ordered the wrong one. I recognized that fact as soon as I opened the box and saw that it would not fit in the 3G model iPod I have. When I asked the process to return the item for a replacement, the company told me that because I had opened the shrink wrap, they would NOT refund me anything. That is ridiculous! This is the only company that I have ever dealt with who does that. I will NEVER buy from them again and would recommend that you do not as well. They are www.getyourtech.com

They told me I would have to sell it on Amazon.com rather than simply swap out the right product. I should have known since there is no way to contact them other than through email.

"Sticks on a single station, basically rendering it useless", I'm giving up on my iTrip, like I had previously given up on my iMic (Belkin). It seems to have short-term amnesia and keeps returning to 88.5 anytime I try changing it to another (clear) channel. Even just pausing a song is enough for it to revert to 88.5. Generally it will let me switch to another channel a couple of times, switch back to 88.5 each time, and then after that it won't even acknowledge attempts to switch it anymore. Just fails to change altogether. 2 irritating strikes against cheap-o mac accessories for me.

"Very good, albeit not perfect, solution", This little device has allowed me to use my iPod in my car that only has a CD player. Without it I would be stuck with only my CDs. Yes, living in the Los Angeles area is cause for frustration, at times, but I have found stations that work. No, the quality is not as good as a CD and I have learned to live with some fuzziness at points. But this is better than paying/installing a new stereo.

In terms of the problem of having the tuning frequencies playing on the playlist...it takes about 2 seconds to fix that problem by setting up a smart playlist to not include the iTrip stations.

This receives a four star rating because it does do what it claims to do...the only reason that I won't give it a five is that the transmitter does not shut off even when I shut my iPod off. If I don't pay attention then the battery gets drained and this is a minor annoyance.

"iTrip for 1G iPods", Ok, what can I say. It's a first generation iTrip transmitter. It's alright, not a high of quality as the newer fancier ipods but it does the trick and gets the job done.

"a little broadcasting gem", The itrip is pretty cool... did a nice job on a four hour drive I recently took. The only difficulty is that you have to keep changing the station as you drive through different cities, depending on the available frequencies for each area. They list the available frequencies for different areas on their website, but that's a heck of a lot of additional research to do just to listen to your music.

It's easy to set up otherwise. I'll keep using it until cars come standard with ipod inputs.

"Who designed this thing", This has the worst interface.. look elsewhere. It is tightly integrated with the ipod but in a horrible horrible way. look for one that you can set the station external to the ipod and it stays. If you are driving and tryign to use this you will probably crash. I am not joking this is one of the worst designed products I have ever seen.

"Weak signal", The signal is too weak to work in our car. It doesn't have enough power to play on our car radio (antenna on right rear fender). The only way we could use it at all is to hold a hand over the iTrip so we were the antenna. Even then the signal faded in and out. We finally gave up and quit even trying to use it. For us it was a waste of money.

"Frustrating features, looks cool, isn't.", Of my two vehicles this refuses to work with one. It's a Ford Focus. The antenna is on the roof, maybe that's the problem. But even when I hold it up to the antenna it doesn't work with any regularity. Having all the stations in a playlist is frustrating, it starts scrolling thru them all, there's a workaround, but it's just as bad. I am not computer illiterate at all, but I find this thing annoying beyond comprehension. In the car where it does work, a jeep with a $400 Kenwood MP3 player it fuzzes out in town all the time at stop lights. There's something about the electrical transmissions. So it's basically only good for a ride in the country. Aiwa makes a $150 CD/MP3 player with a built in audio in right on the face plate. You'd be advised to spend your money on that. You could also buy a CD changer interconnect that attaches into the back of your CD player (assuming it's set up for changers), but those are like $180. The whole FM transmission idea I think is a bad one. And it's incredibly stupid that manufacturers (with the exception of forward thinking Aiwa and maybe a few others) don't put audio inputs on the front of their machines. I mean, how much can it cost? $.25? We've had RCA input jacks on stereos since the 50's. This isn't rocket science. But hey, the itrip LOOKS cool and oh... it doesn't seat onto the connector well with the skin I have on the ipod.

"pain in the neck, weak signal", I thought this was really a great idea, but the signal is far too weak to sound decent in any car I've tried it in (Chrysler mini van, Subaru Outback, VW bug, Honda Accord). It's better if you're out in the country, but completely and utterly worthless anywhere near an urban (or suburban!) area. Even in the country you'll probably need to change frequencies frequently (ha ha). Additionally, you have to install the broadcast stations on your iPod and it works out so that when you're just trying to listen to your music with headphones these tracks for the stations come on and make a really loud high-pitched beeping sound (same problem just using iTunes on your computer). This could be solved by making a playlist with everything except the stations, but the whole thing is just not worth the trouble. I wish car stereos just had an "in" jack.

"Be Careful to order the correct iTrip", This unit is for the older iPod not the current (3G) model.

"Not very reliable", I decided to buy the iTrip so that I wouldn't have the hassle of bulky wires that get tangled with the cassette tape adapter for my iPod. Unfortunately, the iTrip has proved less than reliable. It is terrible if you are driving long distances as every 75-100 miles you have to fiddle around with your radio and iPod in order to find a clear station. And, even if you do find a clear station, I have found you only have a 50/50 chance of the iTunes actually picking up the signal. It also seems to drain the battery of the iPod much quicker than usual. The sound quality is mediocre at best and often times tje sound becomes fuzzy unless your iPod is almost on top of the car antenna. I have broken down and bought a cassette adapter...it's just easier. Griffin Technology had a great idea with the iTrip, it just doesn't translate well into practical use.
