"P4400 Kill A Watt Does the Job"
It was easy to find out how much power each of my household appliances consumes (and therefore how much it is costing me). I like being able to have the meter measure power usage over a whole day, so I know the cost of runing items that are not constantly on. The P4400 is a good product, and is easy to use.

"Useful but"
It is a good device for what it does but after initial use I find that I rarely look at it any more.

"Accurate meter but not precise....still works as it should."
Since I purchased this item I know I was living in denial.

I undertsand the meter is not 100% precise but yes it is a 95-99% accurate. So this is enough for me to claim what I write today.

I purchased a APC SUA3000 UPS for my PC and HTS and finally after reading the actual watts I consume I decided not to install this UPS and sell it to buy a smaller one. Not much luck selling the UPS since it is big but eventually it will.

Regarding the Kill A Watt I definetely recommend to anyone trying to know the honest truth about their electric bill and any other thing this meter can help resolve, decide and reveal.

RA

"Pleased with the product"
The product is what I expected and arrived before the promised time. I am pleased with the product and with the service.

"Easy to use"
I found the product easy to use and very useful. There is a limit of 1875W, so you can't measure some of the large appliances like microwaves or large toasters. I was surprised to see how much electricity my TV and entertainment units consume while being shutoff. Since I bought this product I've been unpluging them when I don't use them.

What our customer's say!

"works good if u understand it", our electric company has raised our rate a penny per kilo watt hour. This dose not sound like much but if my TV uses 200 kw an hour then it cost me $2 to watch 2 hours!
This Kill-A-Watt reader is great for showing me where my power hogs are in the house.
The only problem I have with it is that it was a little hard to understand. I wish that the instructions were easier to read and understand what the numbers mean.
This reader showed me that my energy saving light bulbs still rack up a lot of power! and so dose my laptop which I was always told used a LOT less power then a desk top.

"Great tool", Quick delivery. Great tool. Used daily to track energy usage by my Zenn Electric Vehicle. Displays Kilowatts used, current levels, and more. Also used to track usage by portable AC unit. Good to know how much electricity is being used.

"Does what it says but not the best design", Yes, the product performs as advertised -- it'll display the amount of energy consumed in KW/hour, watts, volts, and amps. It just doesn't have a very thoughtful design. Some comments:
1. As depicted in another reviewer's photo, the unit is bulky and the top extends a bit high over the prongs -- as such, it monopolizes an entire standard dual outlet requiring the user to unplug something else (probably the lamp required to see the LCD screen).
2. The LCD screen is not backlit so crouching behind a dark appliance to get a reading is a hassle.
3. It'd be nice if the unit had supplemental battery power to save the readout until you plugged it into something else (even better would be some memory to store multiple readings). The device is passive so once you unplug a device from it, the information is lost.
4. It doesn't compute KW/hour immediately. This is a fairly simple calculation for a device like this to compute on the fly.

At a list price of $35, it should have at least some of the features listed above. As it stands, this is a primitive device in "attractive" plastic cladding.

"great for understanding and managing you electricity use", Works just like they said, plug it in between a power plug (on the wall or a power strip) and something that run on AC electricity... the display turn on and shows you how much power in being consumed, Volts, Watts, Amps, KWH plus more. I was surprised to find how much electricity items around the house were using (some items like cheap phone chargers chew up energy just being plugged into the wall even if they're not charging something)

"Fun, fun, fun!", If you are like me and fret over every wasted watt of energy, then this gadget is for you. It is very simple to use and seems fairly accurate. Mostly it is confirming what I suspected about most appliances like, how much power is that TV really using when it is on or off....

The only drawback to the design is that the unit will take take up both plug spaces in a normal duplex plug outlet. The body of the unit hangs down too low and interferes with the lower plug. I use the unit with an extension cord to get around the issue.

For about $20 you can't go wrong and it will repay for itself in savings that you will make by realizing what to cut back on. I highly recommend it.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Very useful", I purchased this product to check amp usage on an aircompressor. It works very well and is straighforward to use.

"Badly Needs Two Improvements", I agree with many of the other reviewers. The electrical prongs need to be moved closer to the edge of the unit so it doesn't block the second outlet of the wall plug. The Kill A Watt also needs a backlight. It's virtually impossible to see if the units are Watt or VA (both operated by the same function button) without getting down on the floor with a flashlight. The device does provide the data it advertises, but it's very hard to read the values and know what function is being displayed.

"A neat gadget that works well.", I bought this to test how many amps networking products use, for planning purposes. It works great. Would be ideal for looking at household appliances too. Maybe you didn't realize how much that old frig in the garage was using! A neat gadget that works very well.

"Cool Gadget", A fine gadget for those gadget hounds among us. It is neat to read the present voltage, amperage, wattage, time period for KWHr reading and KWHr number. If you are trying to find out where the electric company gets those high usage numbers, this can help find the culprits, including those phantoms like TV and other items that still draw some watts even when shut off. My wish list for improvement would include a built in battery so you could unplug the unit and still see the readings. Right now, you unplug it, you lost the readings.

"This slick gadget will pay for itself several time over!", Ahhhh geee, another gadget for the junk drawer. Yaaaahhhhhnnn. WRONG!

This slick gadget is one of the best investments anyone can make when trying to conserve energy! So often, the real culprits in our homes are items we don't see, or don't think about as being power guzzlers. Here are some examples I found...

That 10 watt 12 volt outdoor lamp I illuminate the US flag at night actually draws 50 watts due to the transformer. I'd be ahead with a low wattage 120 volt lamp.

My house has a crawl space, where I run a 20" box fan 24/7 at the garage entrance during the summer months to reduce moisture. The beefy Lasko one I was using consumed 100 watts on LOW - I replaced it with a $12 WalMart/Lasko that only draws 50 watts on low (and only 100 watts on high), yet still has ample airflow.

Here were just 2 examples were I discovered I could cut energy use in half that weren't obvious and would have been overlooked without the Kill A Watt. A third example was as informative. I was concerned that my garage freezer was drawing a lot of power, and possibly failing. Nope - the Kill A Watt indicates that all is well. Whew! I was about to buy a new freezer, but the Kill A Watt saved me hundreds of dollars right there already.

Just buy one - you won't regret it!
