"As Packaged__A LIMITED FUNCTION or OEM VERSION", THIS SOFTWARE CD EXACTLY AS PICTURED is developed by Pinnacle . Cosmi markets it. Much like Sears sells Kenmore refrigerators. Someone else, Pinnacle of CAlifornia in US apparently developed the CODE.

NOTHING IN OR ON THE PACKAGING TELLS ANYONE THAT BUYER MUST 'BUY UP' TO HIGHER LEVELS OF SOFTWARE SUCH AS PLUS VERSION OR ULTIMATE VERSION TO GET DVD RIPPING/SAVING BACKUP FEATURES. After a SLOWWWWWW install on a 'BIG BOX'
2 yr old WIN XP PC A second PDF FILE installed tells one about the UPGRADE
'need'. NOTHING on the CD itself or CD CASE SLEEVE tells user ahead of time!!!!!!!

"Worth the price , works for me !", This software , while lacking some refinement in the menus and in customer service, does the job it says it will : it rips dvd content , and turns it into avi, or burns it onto a vcd. I have the 2003 version - someone mentioned that he thinks newer versions had to be disabled for legal versions.that is possible. Occasionally, I will run into a dvd that is too well protected for the dvd ripper to rip. this is especially true for newer dvds.

"Worked for me today! Copied a CSS protected DVD to 2 VCDs that played fine.", Today I used this program to rip a Lion's Gate DVD that was CSS protected to two VCDs that I later played in my DVD player and they played 100% well. Of course that the VCD quality was less than a DVD was but the movie was still watchable. It took 92 minutes to read and record too, but the point is that it worked and it was only 10 dollars.

"COSMI DVD RIPOFF", I bought a copy of the Cosmi DVD Ripper Media Suite. It is not a full version but, instead a limited version will not let me burn DVD's. Don't know if it does Cd's or not. Doesn't matter I can already do that with my computer. Oh well just a big waste of time like I thought it would be. Just glad I have another way of burning DVD's just have to burn them in real time. Myself I wouldn't recomend Cosmi products to anyone for anything just a big RIPOFF in my opinion.

"The 2003 Version of DVD Ripper Works Just Fine", I suspect the 2004 version of "Cosmi DVD Ripper" had the DVD-decoding software removed so you can no longer rip copyright-protected DVDs because of that Federal Court Ruling in February (Maybe the US Supreme Court should sort this whole DVD-burning/fair use/copyright-thing out).

I purchased the original version of "Cosmi DVD Ripper" in the fall 2003 and it made decent back-up copies of my DVDs. However it is very slow and only copies about 100 minutes worth of movie material. But for $10, it does the job.


"abysmal", I bought the full retail "suite" at $19 which also includes this product. It doesn't do anything-- just like some other reviewers say on this and the retail package. It wouldn't even recognize that there was a DVD in the DVD player. I don't mean that it wouldn't see the player-- I mean it couldn't read DVDs at all. Apparently, judging from other posts, it simply is incompatible with some DVD players. Also, when you run the program the display is all squeezed together so that you cannot change many options. Customer service sent me on the run around for another week and finally just about admitted that they know their software doesn't do anything. They also would not refund my money. I threw this junk software away-- it is so bad that I couldn't bring myself to foist it on someone used. Go with shareware instead. I will never buy another product from COSMI.

"DVD Ripper, is a snap", Not bad for the bucks. There are some commercially available DVD's which cannot be copied, so this software does not get around that. But for the money, and simplicity, it aint too bad.

"I would give it a negative one star if I could", I first burned a short film as a test. Unlike their claims, it does not play in every dvd player. It worked in 2 out of the 3 dvd players I tested. Secondly, the quality is the equivalent of watching tv with rabbit ear antennas with weak reception. Not appropriate as back up for an original dvd. I tried a longer movie and began the burning process before leaving for work. 10 hours later when I arrived at home it was still burning. I had to manually shut down my machine to get it to stop (program not responding.) I was afraid that it might have damaged my burner since it ran all day long, but luckily it seems fine. Given the quality of the first test copy, I decided it wasn't worth trying again. Then, of course is the spyware issue. I read the other reviews and searched the internet and found that cosmi has been allegedly associated with a firm that bundles adware with certain programs. If true, this is reason enough not to buy a product. However, my spy-remover software did not detect any suspect programs spyware/adware. Though upon uninstalling this DVD ripper, I noticed that there were programs and files left behind without an uninstall option. And if that all is not enough, be aware that you cannot copy encripted DVDs with this product anyway... which pretty much rules out every single comercial DVD ever released. Unless of course you obtain additional software to get around this. Such software is generally not available commercially due to a recent court ruling, but there is always freeware. Regardless, do yourself a favor by a real DVD burner and use different burning software.

"Not bad for under $10!", It took me a while to get the hang of DVD Burning, but now that I've gotten it down, it's so simple. The three problems with this software are (1)Spyware - Never a good thing to have, but removable; (2)Speed - Takes several hours for one DVD (but hey, it's so inexpensive!) and (3)It does not burn encrypted DVD's, like most programs. However, there are programs out there that "override" encryptions. Once you find the right one to work with this program, burning is a snap!
