"Awesome game!"
I really love this game!!! The graphics are very nice and it's not hard to learn how to play. It may be frustrating at times, but what game isn't? ^_^ I've beaten it once and am on my way to beating it a second time. ^_^

"Excellent conclusion"
An excellent conclusion to a gripping series of games. I know some people can find them somewhat tedious and a little frustrating that they're spaced out so much, but they have so much endless playability that I really didn't care. Great games!

"Nothing new and SHORT!"
Nothing new here from the other games. It was very very short and left a rather empty ending. This game didn't even bother to have all your characters request your help in a dungeon which I enjoyed in the other games. You are pretty much stuck with Black rose in this game and I liked other characters much better. One good point about this game is once you have SAVED "The World" you do get to continue to play and get item completion with some side dungeon quests added in. The problem is I kind of lost interest as I was no longer playing to complete a story but just for fun. After 4 games of the same fighting, this doesn't add much interest to me.

"One of the best games I have ever played"
This is a great game with a great OVA with it and I like them both as much as the series .hack//SIGN. Enough said.

"The best RPG "
This game is great when I play it! The story were awsome. I reccommend it for people who have play part 1 to 3. If you just get this game without playing the previous parts then it will not be that fun and become confusing. I love the game and every time I play it I felt like I really was online. Probably the best RPG games I play.

"I got this to complete a collection of VGs...", I am an hour into the first game. so to give any ratings for the last one is ridiculous. I'm giving it a generic 3 because the dang listings demand input. good luck in finding another copy to buy since amazingly enough, this last one was a B!tch to locate.

"Good series of games", I really like the fact that you can use your save data from the previous game and that the story is flowing along a similar path as the Anime Series. The DVD disk that comes with these show the real world events which is another good perspective and a lot better than the Anime's shaded few second shots of the real world.
Still need to finish the game. I seem to have a problem finding a place that doesn't have one really hard monster to kill that takes 20 min to fight, and I have to kill 20 of them to level up.

"listen up", here it is for all the .hack series ...........its a classic and the repitive ness comes from the fact that its the same game .....just with more story and then another thing the dialoug ............didn't you know practically everyone whose a kid meaning black rose and kite sound like kids?.......is so obivious also this game only spands from the begining to about a couple of weeks like 2-6 thats about it .....seriously and people actually expected to get better?......whats wrong with you people this is the same game need i repeat same game.....thats why the system is the same.......just like with kingdom hearts and the final fantasy series really some of you people out there call yourselves gamers but truely i wonder if you people know anything think outside the box for once........really and if anyone knows anything about anime its me....seriously watch neon gensis evagalion.......thats a weird one.....

"dot.hack part 4 quartine", it is better then the other dot hack that i have.

".hack ... or .crap? ", As a longtime enthusiast of the .hack multimedia franchise, I feel bad doing this, but as a gamer I cannot allow the fact I happened to like .hack//SIGN interfere with my judgement.

I basically started playing this long and, looking back on it, overpriced series because I was driven by most desire to find a conclusion to the anime drama, .hack//SIGN (which, despite some flaws, is one of the best stories I've ever had the pleasure of immersing my consciosness in and has some of the best music I've ever heard in an animated series). The anime ended on an uncertain note and, having learned that the story would only be concluded if I got to the fourth game, I undertook the lengthy (and as I would soon find out, tedious) task of beating the game series.

Because all of the games are basically the same in terms of concept, all I have to say for them all at once is:

PLOT: Wow. Boring and predictable. Just the opposite of .hack//SIGN. I have a hard time linking the two together. The worse thing about this plot is that it is so simple that a twelve-year old won't have much trouble deciphering what happens next. There are a few cases of borderline deus ex machina where you won't see something coming but these are few, far between and, in any case, deus ex machina is one of the first signs of a weak plot.

DIALOG: Owch. Aside from the voice actors sounding (as the Game Informer people pointed out) like none of them have hit puberty, the lines themselves are pretty hokey (even in the most dramatic moments - no wait! Especially in the most dramatic moments). There is no tension or intrigue to be gained through character interaction.

CHARACTERS: By far the most tragic thing about this series in my opinion. None of my favorites from .hack//SIGN (with the exception of some lame side-quest cameo appearances) made it into the game. After getting over that, I managed to actually like what little character the agents of the story had. In truth, I actually like Kite, BlackRose, Balmung, Gardenia, etc but I have to say they are incredibly shallow and more or less one - maybe two, in some cases - dimensional. They have none of the complexity and moral difficulties of the original heroes from .hack//SIGN and this makes them rather boring to watch. The mark of a bad character is one that will do at the end exactly what they would have done at the beginning of the series (as it signifies they didn't develop or change toward the better at all) and that unfortunate effect proliferates among the cast of the .hack video games. Having as I already said ended up liking many of these characters, I feel bad that the scriptwriters couldn't have drew them out more. They, like the story, had a lot of unused potential.

MUSIC: Perhaps the one redeeming quality of the series. Not as good as the original .hack//SIGN but it can be okay most of the time and sometimes excellent.

GAMEPLAY: By far the most damning attribute the series posseses. I can finally understand why so many people who play 'The World' fall into comas. No, its not because of Morganna Mode Gone or anything like that. It's because the gameplay is so horribly repetitive their brains shut down in order to escape it. Really, I thought that was going to be my fate. I think found myself praying the game would be over soon sometime during .hack//MUTATION (that's the second game of four). It's basically a unexciting hack-and-slash masquerading as a sort of role-playing game. The gameplay of this series can be summed up as 'slash, slash, slash, heal, ressurect, slash, slash, slash, heal, ressurect, etc etc etc ...' the bosses are boring. Everything is dull. Nothing gets exciting.

I've heard that there is a manga adaption of this video game series called .hack//XXXX. On the off chance it ever gets translated into English, I would love to buy it. It would most likely hone in on the problems of plot and character and fix them right up in addition to delivering some decent manga-style artwork of some of some greatly improved characters (like Kite, BlackRose, Balmung, etc) from the game.

But as for this game - if you've come this far, well, I wouldn't expect you to stop now. If not, don't start. Just wander off and dream about how the story started in .hack//SIGN might end and pray that .hack//XXXX is (1) good and (2) translated into English.

"Just a little getting used to", A lot of people really miss the point of this game so I'm going to lay it out for you.

It's a simulation of a mass-multiplayer online RPG. You meet several players along the way and the game tries to make sure you interact with them as often as possible. However the main characters in the story turn out to be Balmung, Blackrose, Wiseman, and of course Kite, and as such when you're in situations where the story line is progressing they are the characters that you'll probably want to (or have to in some cases) select for your party. A lot of the dry spots in the story is to progress your relationships with other characters.

For experienced gamers the .hack//saga should provide little difficulty. The characters are brilliantly designed, my only complaint is that you don't really get a lot of substance in each individual game. It's fun to progress the story, but before you know it the game is over, which is why I eagerly awaited this installment in the saga. I was pleased to see the story come together the way that it did, and the DVD's that coincide with the game are well done. It's not nearly as hack and slash as some would make it out to be, there is a bit of strategy in the game, several opposing elements, several enemies with both physical and magical tolerance that require some sort of strategy to defeating them. Another lacking quality in the game is the variety of enemies is low, you end up fighting the same enemies over and over again in each level, the lack of variety at each weapon shop is also frustrating, however the trading system and the variety of weapons you find on the field along with the leveling them up with the help of special dieties known as "grandpa" and "monsieur" make up for that.

The story is frighteningly progressive and cutting edge. As I stated earlier the character models are fantastic, and quite honestly some of the best I've seen since Final Fantasy VII. Now don't get angry....this series is by no means of Final Fantasy VII caliber, however its very much worth the play as you can usually find most titles for around twenty dollars. It's a fun and addictive story line. I highly recommend it.

"//.hack", If you have played the first three /.hack games...you will prolly love this one. The fact is://.hack rules. 1st off, you get to interact with NPCs and trade with them. In games like Final Fantasy, you either buy the worthless pieces of junk, or you go around for hours stealing items from monsters which is a huge time consumer. Well i guess this too considering the numbers of monsters to kill going through the dungeons. I simply got hooked. The games very easy to play plus it has some challenge in it. Its better then final fantasy because you don't have to use the same gay boring menus. I'd rather be able to move the character and do what i want. :-) The story is different but you need to pay attention in games to whats going on. There are LOTS of skills to get which makes it very fun instead of fire, ice, thunder. Hmm? Kinda gets old. LOTS of weapons with cool details is another big gain. i'd rate this serious a 5 anyday.

"JUNK", This is the most boring role-playing game I've experienced. The first 5 hours have a great plot, and then *nothing*. Just hack'n'slash and repetitive dungeons for the next 20 hours. I finished the game to see the story's end, but it WAS NOT WORTH THE TIME WASTED. Or the money wasted.

"The exact same as the other games.", This is the exact same game as the other games. There's a few new items, but nothing to celebrate. Sure it's a conclusion, but you just spent 200 bucks on 4 games that are all 12 hours(maximum) long. Way to go!

".hack//hello!", dot hack is a great expansive game that is full of intrigue and excellent design. I admit that it is not the best game in the world but you have to look past your critical debations and play the game. I would reccomend buying the other 3 games first before this one to get the entire feel of the story. It is set up like an online game and feels like one too. Yes there is room for improvement and yes it can be a frustrating or hard game at times. It is because of this difficulty that we push ourselves forward toi overcome the challenge and when we do it feels absoulutley great. a game that is too easy is no fun. This is a great end to a wonderful series plus has dot hack gift as well as the final chapter in the liminality story which are awesome bonuses to get with this game. You don't have to immerse yourself in the dot hack world if you want to enjoy the game, but by playing the game you may want to just go ahead and take the full experience after viewing this wonderful world of dot hack.
