"little dissapointed"
if you're a risk fan you'll like this game, but i'm not sure how much better it is than the many free versions of the game available around the net. some cool features, but no online play, which is ridiculous with a game like this.

"Acceptable game for the price of a penny (plus shipping)"
I got this game with a bundle of others at a used book store. I have spent several hours playing it at a time, and it is addictive if you enjoy strategy games. The simultaneous turn feature makes games more interesting. It is based on the classic Risk board, but you can play with optional new provinces and land connections. Hawaii connects Japan and the Western US. New Zealand connects South America and Eastern Australia. The Falkland Islands connect Argentina to Africa. There are increased values for holding an entire continent.
Asia=8
North America=6
Europe=6
Africa=5
South America=4
Australasia=4
A new system of dice uses different colors based on the size of the army. The way it works is each color has an increasing number of sixes the larger your army is. A 40 man army will roll a black die that has a high percentage of sixes on its sides, while a 5 man army rolls a white die that has only one six on its sides. There is an ability to make one SURGE attack per turn, which allows you to attack a province two spaces away- the first province in the ordinary attacks, and the second province in the surge attack. This allows you to tighten your border provinces or complete the ownership of a country you otherwise wouldn't be able to, and thus get the army bonus for the next turn. Armies are given based both on the total number of provinces held, as well as a primary focus on the number of CONNECTED provinces within an empire- before considering bonuses for continents or cards. Unlike original Risk, there are a limit of armies you can place in a single province each turn. You can place one army for the province itself, and an additional army for each adjacent province you own. This way it is harder to make huge armies directly on your borders, but it also makes your interior defences stronger. There are a few options for how beginning territories are determined. There is a random deal, a territory grab-like original Risk, or an election system. Each player gets a the same number of points to bid on every province, and they appear to be bid on in random order. Some provinces go for up to 250 points, depending on if their location is strategic, such as the Middle East. Other provinces can go for as low as 10 points, so it is possible for one player to have 20 provinces at the start while others only have 4 or 5. I do enjoy the election system, but it is very time consuming.

This is a good game for a penny. My main complaint is the tournament mode. There are about a dozen pre-set game scenarios that increase in difficulty, and you have to play them all in order. It is very frustrating because you cannot save a game BEFORE a new scenario starts, you can only save it in the middle and resume it there. So if I get to a particularly hard level 6 scenarios in, I can't just start over at scenario 6 if I fail to beat it. I have to start all over at the first one- and that is the feature that really made me stop playing the game. Otherwise it is enjoyable.

"Risk II"
I've played Risk before and that is why I ordered it. A great game!

"Sail On Software - Dishonest Company"
We ordered a DVD through Amazon via Sail On. They sent us a used DVD (no packaging), which did not work. After stringing us along, we returned the DVD and were promised a replacement or refund. Needless to say, they have avoided our e-mails since. I would recommend NOT dealing with Sail On Software.

"Worth trying Same-time Risk"
Risk 2 offers a tournament play with increasing difficult predefined maps and objectives, classic and same-time risk with about a dozen different computer opponents.

The innovation in this game is the same-time. This is an extremely fun option, and greatly speeds the gameplay with friends, since everyone does their turn at the same time, and then sit back and watch the action.

The only technical problem with this game is it requires a minimum of three players, and computer opponents are not offered for networked games. Computer opponents are available for "hot-seat" games where players share one computer. Otherwise a solid title.

What our customer's say!

"Okay, but gets old quickly", This game would be FAR better if the campaign mode weren't the same every time through, or if you didn't have to start at the beginning every time you lose a single battle (playing the same early levels over and over gets REALLY old). It might be worth $10, but don't expect it to be one of your new favorites. I probably wouldn't play it at all if I weren't a huge Risk fan.

"Classic game, yet very questionable AI.", Like all great classic games, Risk is challenging and addictive. But even though this game comes with an excellent graphics and many customizable elements, its AI is extremeley questionable. I've played countless games where the computer rolls 4's or higher 70% of the time, while my 4's or higher barely reach even 40%. I've also seen the computer conquer territories with an army half its size and only two or three losses (the AI just conquered my entire continent of South America, which I had garrisoned with 21 battalions, with an army of 12 and only two losses). These bots seem to have no notable skills other than cheating on their rolls. If it weren't for the questionable dice, any intermediate player could probably win the default classic match almost all of the time.

"Great Game", This is a very addictive game.It is based on the old board game.Its got a variety of different choices to play this game,so you can play it to your liking.I got this some years ago now and its one of my most played games ever.It is exciting as you try your best to defeat the enemy.But sometimes nothing seems to go right,that can be frustrating,but it certainly keeps me occupied.The shooting scenes are great,as is the overall atmosphere of the game.I like the graphs and statistics it has as well.

"Quite Addicting", Even though this is a very old game, it is quite addicting to play. The animations are fun to watch and the additional territories are much needed improvements to classic risk to open up the map more (Risk 2210 has similar options). Same-time risk allows all attacks to happen at once and is a unique concept that is quite fun as it balances out the game more by not giving the starting player a huge advantage. Now my gripes are that network games require 3 players and you cannot add computer players. This should have been something easily implemented that is missing. Also, I hear online play support no longer exists which isn't a big deal as I don't play online. The tournament mode is fun as well with 16 increasingly difficult levels to complete and what I enjoy the most about the game. Some people have mentioned that it is annoying that if you lose at any time in the tournament, you have to start over from the very beginning. This is true, although there is a trick which is to backup the tourn.cfg file every time you beat a level. If you lose, just restore your backup and you're good to go from the beginning of the mission you were at. I cannot tell you how much that improved the experience of the game after I figured that out after playing the first 5 levels over again 3-4 times as I was stuck on level 6. So, if you are playing it for single player, it is quite fun granted that you backup your tournament files. Hot-seat is fun for multiple players on the same computer only because you can add computer players in addition to having human players. It just doesn't make sense why they didn't implement the same for network games so you don't need to crowd everyone around one monitor.

"About as fun to play as it is to download", The first few times, sure the game was kinda fun, giving a refreshing feel to the good ol' risk game. But after a few times of playing against the various 'a.i.' or number generators, i began to realize that the 'skill' of the pc wasn't based on their tactics as a leader, but on the amount of dice roles they'll win. If thats what passes for an impressive 'a.i' then its a wonder that the programer can even type his name into a computer, let alone be able to write any sort of respectable tactical program. Also the pc players will go out of thier ways to attack the player, often completely avoiding breaking up other pc's continents or picking a player's strong point over a pc's weak point. This is a cheaply designed knock off of risk and doesn't deserve to hold the same name. (and i'd like to run into the a.i. programer in a dark alley someday)

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Sucks as no 2 player LAN games possible", I bought this game for me and my wife to play, only to find out after installing it that LAN play requires THREE players minimum. The cover and documentation says "UP TO 8 PLAYERS LAN", and FAILS to mention this little drawback. Not to mention the screenshot in the LAN setup instructions have a picture of the single player screen, so it LOOKS like if you can add computer players too. Very misleading. I had to go their support website to confirm 2 player LAN is not supported. VERY DISAPPOINTED. DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT TO PLAY 2 PLAYERS.

"Great Game and Value", I never played any previous Risk PC Version, so this was my first... this game runs on XP...Gamesplay is good, due to the several modes which can be accessed...the classic game is there of course, but there are other modes of play...the same time mode is especially appealing because the player is able to attack from more than one territory at once and then can surge to another territory...I really enjoyed the board game, but there are so many different ways to configure play, I put away my box and play on pc exclusively...you are able to play PC or others on LAN/Network (my real disapppointment is that there is not online Play)...graphics and sound are average at best...but overall, if you want to play Risk (Strategy game) which doesn't take forever, not difficult to learn, but challenging, I can heartily recommend....for the bucks, nice game...would work especially well if traveling about with laptop (killing time in airports)...think of it as a variation of chess game, but more appealing to senses...

"No Ultimate Risk", Risk I for PC was an awesome game, because it includes the Ultimate Risk. This is where winning the battle is by using different stredegy cards. This version of the Risk is the best. But Risk 2 doesn't have this feature. I highly recommond to try Risk I's ultimate game, it is so much FUN!!
