"Boycott Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts." I have played Star Wars: Galaxies for 782 days according to the /getvet command. I have purchased all of the expansions out to date. I was considering creating a second account. As of 11-17-05 my account is cancelled. The New Game, also known as the Starter Kit, is the third version of SWG and it is riddled with bugs and incomplete. It is a far inferior product to its previous versions as well. The NG was released after being kept secret for an unknown period of time and allowing players only a two week notice of it being published. Even less time was devoted to it being tested by sources outside of SOE. Trials of Obi Wan and the NG were released in such a manner as to call into question SOE's and LA's ethics. As represented by the employees who post to the forums SOE and LA are uncarring, glib, and/or vastly out of touch with the player community.
Most of these are not new complaints. However, with the release of the NG these problems have escalted to such a degree that the game is no longer playable. While some are content to merely switch games I am not. Simply changing the direction of the flow of money to SOE and LA will not get their attention. I am boycotting all products created by Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts. I encourage others to do the same.
I do not think my actions alone with effect SOE or LA one iota. In fact, I doubt anything will change their policies. The fan base for Star Wars and other properties is sufficiently numerous to mitigate any discontent portion. While some have predicted that the NG will cause the collapse of SWG I believe otherwise. It will lose many current players but those will be replaced by SOE's and LA's new target market. SOE and LA will later use the negative comments and future subscriptions numbers to prove that they were right all along and to dismiss anyone who opposes them as being knee jerk reactionaries who are against change just because they don't like change. Because most likely the next expansion will also bring a new version of SWG as SOE and LA attempt to copy whichever game is doing better then.
"Not what it should be, but still fun." I will keep it succinct.
The game is good, I have loads of fun, mostly because I love the Star Wars Universe.
Does this game have what I feel it should have? No, there is plenty I would change. In fact, I feel that SoE is doing a poor job of maintaining the Star Wars Universe.
Nevertheless, it still is fun.

"Review from a MMORPG fanantic" Star Wars: Galaxies is a MMORPG designed to allow ordinary people, like you and me, to be able to live the life of character in Star Wars. The wide variety of professions that you may choose from is one of the great highlights of this game. This game has the PvP, PvE, Roleplay, and Crafting aspects that makes a MMORPG complete.
Graphics in this game isn't as great as EverQuest 2 (the best eye candy MMORPG by far), but it is pretty high on the scale. My rating 8.5/10.
Gameplay is outstanding. I've played over 30 different major MMORPGs and I can't stay away from SW:G. In fact, I'm purchasing my 3 cd set for a 3rd account. My rating 10/10.
Sound in this game isn't bad, but could be better. You can seriously tell that they didn't put as much effort in the sound for the game as they did with the other features. My rating 6/10.
Replay value is something not normally used in reviews for Online games, but I think it should be important. This game is fun and starting new with a second, third, or more characters doesn't come off as work. You actually enjoy doing the same quests over and over. My rating 9.5/10.
The reason for some of the negative reviews is the lack of interested/knowledge in the Star Wars stories. Some will be very negative about the combat system change in April 2005 (these are mostly the older players of the game who oppose change). The most common complaint about this game is the fact that you have to put some time into the game before you can become a Jedi (approx. 5 1/2 months at the bare minimum). Don't be discouraged at that, there is so much more to the game that'll help that time pass by.
"Don't let people who are afraid of change ruin this for you" I have been playing for amost a year. I rode through the CU and at first I admit i was unhappy. Once i LEARNED the style of play needed for the CU over the old day I realize that the game was just as fun as before (if not better). When hunting in groups it is much easier to progress your character and make money. Before the CU i had to grind away for months to get where I am able to get in couple of weeks of play now. If you are just buying the game and have no clue of how it was and will be learning the new CU style from scratch you will love it. The graphics are cool, the universe is large and the missions are much deeper now then they were when i started. There are those who are not happy with the changes, but don't let that get in your way. Try it and enjoy (it's only $25 at the end of the day)
"Do NOT buy this game" I'm on dialup, and the game said it can be played on dialup. Well it can't. After 50 straight hours spent downloading the patches, I finally got to start the game. It was as boring as boring can be. Plus, at dialup speed, just forget it. I complained to Sony and they were "gracious" enough to refund my monthly subscription money. But I'm still out the $20 I paid at Walmart.
I'd give this game negative stars if that was an option. No use rehashing what the others have said. The missions are pointless, unrealistic, take forever to complete, and grant you very small rewards.
This game is a complete STRIKE OUT.

What our customer's say!
"Certainly not for everyone", I went into Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) with the highest of expectations. Sure, I'd heard about a myriad of bugs and other troubles related to launch, but I wasn't concerned about that. I really was just looking forward to getting into the Star Wars universe. And SWG provides one of the best Star Wars experiences to date, despite its ever present flaws.
As it was a little over a year ago, SWG was a decent game. It had its problems (bugs mainly, which seemingly took months to fix) and, like just about every other title in the Massively Multiplayer genre, suffered from repetitive gameplay. These elements are still present - the development team often takes a long time to get around to bug fixes and, more often than not, patches or added content to the game leave much to be desired. Furthermore, the game recently underwent a complete rewrite, making it more of a first-person shooter/roleplay hybrid and the control scheme more similar to that of World of Warcraft. It was an odd thing to get used to, especially after two or three years of playing. Newer players, however, should have little problem adjusting.
The Collector's Edition is a good additon to your collection, if you happen to find one and have the cash on hand. It comes packaged in an attractive leather textured box with the logo on front. Goodies include a "An Empire Divided" pin, game manual with developer signatures printed on the back, and a pewter figurine of a female Zabrak, one of the many playable races in-game. The biggest selling point for me, aside from the game, was the art book included; art books such as these are often included in limited edition release packages and really are nice collectibles.
Now, I recently left SWG because I simply didn't like the new changes made to the game and because my life has taken me in a direction away from such time consumption. The game certainly isn't for everyone, but if you happen to be a Star Wars fan and have the time to devote to an online game such as this, SWG might be one of the better experiences you have.
"It's still alive", There is little point in buying the collector's edition unless you want your character to have goggles and it's very difficult to get hold of the collector's edition these days.
If you want to play Star Wars Galaxies you want the 'Starter Kit'
'Star wars Galaxies Starter Kit'
Although in previous years this MMORPG has been much better the game is still very much worth playing and enjoyable.
If you want any advice on SWG the you may talk to me on: smakerjack@hotmail.com
"STOP BUYING THAT MESS", I played SWG since 2003 ... it was fun in the beginning , until they released the "New Game Enhancements" = NGE . SOE ( Sony Online Entertainment ) did an CU where they changed the core rules and not an year later the made the NGE . Most of my Equipment , where i spend much time to get it is useless now. There are no longer 30 professions , only 9 iconic professions left . They want to make the game more " Star Warsy " ..... its really Star Warsy when an lvl 80 jedi get killed by two lvl 50 enemies. There is no longer item decay ..... so the crafters will leave the game. The game has only the state of an Alpha version .... bugged everywhere .
I will miss my old Star Wars Galaxies ... after NGE its not the game i bought.
2 accounts canceld now ...
RIP SWG
"SOE Has Re-Written the Game, Worst Star Wars game now!", This game used to be cool, and one of the Best MMO's out there.
However, in the past few months, Sony Online Entertainment has completely scraped the original game coding and rewritten it from scratch.
There used to be 30+ professions to play, and players used to be able to mix them and be hybrids.
Now there are only 9 professions, and players are stuck in their jobs... You wanna be a Smuggler, great your a smuggler, only there is no smuggling existent in the game... and you can't play your favorite Stars Wars musical instrument anymore in the Cantina's... as a side job.
The Combat System in the game has been overhauled at least twice in the last few months, the original system completely scraped and re-coded from scratch.
All these changes to the game are forced upon the players by SOE, and the players have to download them from SOE's servers to make sure their installed version is up to date with SOE's version.
Some of the downloads take hours, some even days for Dial Up users. I have to burn all the downloaded updates into a CD or DVD for a friend of mine, and mail them to her because she gets them quicker that way.. because her Dial Up takes 36+ hours to download the biggest updates, and she can only let the download run for a few hours a day.
The game, at the present time... November 21st, 2005... the Game sucks. SOE keeps promising changes to make things better, but they're either not coming fast enough for the players... or they just never come out with the cxhange at all... Smuggler's have been waiting 2 years now for the "promised" ability to be able to Smuggle in the game... Players are cancelling their accounts left and right.
SOE, on the day of their latest, and largest recode of the game... two weeks ago, Fired their Community Correspondent (Tiggs, a very popular person with the players) who is their voice between us the Players.. and them... because they didn't like what she was telling them what we were saying about the changes.
The game is supposed to be set in the timeperiod between the first two, Original Movies... Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back...
Yet LucasArts is producing the Expansions for this game and they keep pushing in Episode II and III content... instead of content designed for the correct time line. Not only that, the new Clone Wars Content... is far better then the current timeline content... which supposed to be 20 years more advanced.
Jedi's... You wanna play a Jedi... this should be called, Star Wars: KOTOR Online. The Jedi Population is out of control and it was SOE's biggest mistake to allow players to become Jedi's... They should have left that as a rarity in the game, only had a few NPC Jedi's like Luke Skywalker in the game, as novelties for offering special Quests...
But no... they wanted to let players be Jedi's as a selling point.
How many Jedi did you see charging across the Hoth Battle Field with Luke, to take down the Imperial Walkers?
In Star Wars: Galaxies... there will be several hundred of them out there on Hoth... if SOE and LucasArts ever gets around to adding Hoth.
They're too busy adding Episode II and III content like the planets Kashyyyk and Mustafar... speaking of which, if you're a Jedi then you can go to Mustafar and help save Obi Wan Kenobi's ghost; whose "lost his way" ... how lame is that?
Now, they can't remove the Jedi from the game like they should.. because they hyped up being Jedi so much that "everyone and their mother" has one, or has played one... and would cry, bitch and comlain if SOE removed them.
SOE is "claiming" all these changes are making the game feel more "Star Wars" like... however within the last two weeks they have destroyed the in-game player economy, destroyed the orininal 30 Player Professions and redesigned 9 new ones... removed the ability to play a Hybrid Profession.. and turned the game into a massive online FPS that seems like it is based off of the KOTOR Timeline, instead of the Timeline it is supposed to be based off of... and ruined the combat system.
Do not buy this game.
If you want to play a Star Wars game, go play one of the Console Games like Star Wars: KOTOR series... or the new BattleFront series.
At present, this is probably one of the worst Star Wars Games ever made now.
It is all thanks to mismanagement and bad design ideas at SOE and LucasArts... who both seem to think they can use this game to completely rewrite all of Star Wars history.
Maybe, someday in the future they'll get smart and fix this game... but for now... George Lucas ought to be ashamed of this game, it is an embarrassement to the Star Wars Universe.
"Star Wars Galaxies is Garbage", i wonder how many of the positive posters work for soe. we used to have 32 professions but soe decided to delete 21 of them. i feel so bad for the players their professions got deleted. the combat is a joke and meant for 5yr olds. only my 5yr old son has fun with click click click swing swing swing. and even 10min later my son is smart enough to want sesame street instead. soe has no respect for the vets in the game. how would you like your profession deleted after playing 2 1/2yrs and your rare items you have collected also made useless? this is not how you treat loyal customers. there is no fun in pvping. it gets boring fast. what challenge is it that their is no decay and when you die you don't lose anything or penalties? you die, clone, die, clone. after while it gets sickening killing the same guy over and over and he doesn't lose anything. if you find click click clicking challenging you must be 10yr old or younger. reminds me of an old atari game i played when i was 8yrs old.
stay away from this game unless you want your heartbroken.
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy...
"A SW Fan & Gamer", This game was great at one point but has been completely redone. It is more like EQ2 & World of Warcraft now. If you are looking for either of these games with a Star Wars feel this is it right now. If you have to get this game I would not get the collector's edition. Its not worth the extra money and all you get are some funky glasses you can wear ingame
"*SIgh* I don't know what to say... ", It started as a game of skills,(one of a kind on the PC gaming market) as you moved up in the skill tree, you were given more enhancements, more moves, more excitement. When you mastered a tree, you had all the powers and could do basically whatever you wanted, go fight some tuskins, go hunt, succeed. It was pretty cool. It was even fun to group up with a bunch of friends and do the harder missions. It was different. You had a choice of soloing it, or grouping up to get some extra XP. It was fun. Roaming around the different planets and seeing the different creatures, different landscapes, the graphics were pretty amazing. I played this game with a bunch of people, form 16-45. It allowed all ages to immerse themselves in different ways. We had armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, I myself was a master dancer for quite sometime and really enjoyed it. I even got married in game in front of the whole cantina.
I have a lot of memories. Fond memories. But they are all gone now. Those skills I worked so hard for, are gone, master dancer, it means nothing now, all my friends they are gone, including the character I married. Why you ask?
Well a new upgrade was released, it was called the Combat upgrade. it changed that cool skill based system into a level system, (you can find those with EQII and WOW,) it put so many limitations on the game that many of us have left. We have begged for information from the development team and management, but we do not receive any information. They have literally ignored us. Then they tell you the consumer whom have never played this game that the "community" loves it. *sigh* some do, but most don't.
If you want a level up game go try WOW or even Guildwars, better graphics and less bugs. If you must have Star Wars, try one of the other games, this one is very sick and in need of alot of help. It will be a waste of money to pay them $15.00 a month when you can get Knights of the old republic and only spend the $50.00 that one time.
Just some advice for the consumer. It was a great game, but all the professions are gone. The excitement is gone. Most of all, the fun is gone.
"No where near it's potential", Alright I've reviewed this game once and now that I'm out of the game I think it's time to do a second review. For those that don't know the game has pretty much turned inside out and died due to the NGE. I left at launch of the NGE not happy with the changes that were made very simple.
About 1 month ago I actually gave the game the true try with the full NGE in place. My opinion ranged from "Wow look what I missed" to "Wow look how they screwed this game up."
I created characters on 4 of the most active servers that I could find ran from place to place searching for people to group with and see what activity was on the server.
Needless to say I was dumbfounded. Lowcam Starsider, Flurry and Chimarra all were the servers I joinned. All VERY DEAD. Mos Eisley Dead. Theed Dead, Dantooine, Dathomir all the same. Over the course of a 14 day trial I could count on both hands how many people I encountered.
Entertainer's were nearly impossible to find. I encountered a total of 2 Entertainers to gain Entertainer buffs. High End Equipment from Venders or Bazaar no luck. I even searched through the map for venders listed on the map.
The outright hostility to the NGE SOE should have realized and reversed there decision. On Lowca every city I visted there were signs visible of Anti NGE and needless to say I couldn't belive it. Then upon visiting many of the popular hunting grounds I could see what people ment about the NGE killing the game. Death Watch Bunker, Fort Tusken, Hunting on Dantooine nothing there so what's the point in playing?
During the time I played it was during the Halloween spurt where Mos Eisley and Moenia were the two locations to go. Mos Eisley being that dead and figureing that city is the Starter City was sickening.
So needless to say I let my trial run out without resubscribing. I'll continue playing the other MMO and make the decision on if I'll play the Knights of the Republic MMO when it comes out and more material is available on it.
This game is not worth the headaches.
"By far the most diverse and entertaining MMORPG ", I have played others. Well i have to say the nostalga for starwars and the game play surpasses them all. i have to say they "NERF" lots of things but not as many as {edit}. LOL. If you like Starwars and enjoy MMORPGs your going to love Galaxies.
"best game ever", i have never had so much fun in my life. one of the best games that i have ever seen. the detail is magnifacent. i love hunting rancor with my other guild members!!
