"Skip the Doctor!"
You have to be suspicious when a manufacturer blames YOU when their product fails to perform. Such is the case with the SkipDoctor. I used this product on 6 discs, 2 of which became unreadable after cleaning. (They worked before I cleaned them) That is a pretty rotten percentage if you ask me. I contacted tech support and was told repeatedly that I was doing it incorrectly. So I decided to try my own route at fixing the 2 bad discs; I used extra extra soft auto rubbing compound. It made the discs shine like glass and most importantly, they work again. A $5 bottle will clean about 500 discs. You do the math. All my discs look like new and are working just fine now. Skip the Doctor!

"It only made things worse"
I tried this product on two DVDs that would no longer play reliably. The scratches were minor and only in one part of each disc. After liberally spraying the "lubricant" and running each through the machine twice, then buffing just as the directions suggest, neither disc would load in the DVD player at all.

I will be returning this product immediately and will advise anyone I can to avoid it.

"Works great for us!!"
My kids have scratched up numerous computer and music cds. We definitely rely on skipdr to make them readable again (both my kids (ages 6 and 11) know how to use it). It "fixes" a large percentage of the problems - all except the deepest scratches and breaks. It only takes about 4 repairs for the unit to pay for itself...and we've repaired at least 50 discs with the original wheel (just today ordering replacement wheel).

"it will ruin your games!"
I bought this for my son who has had a few scratches on some of his games. He followed the directions, and the game doctor put a perfectly circular scratch all the way around the disc-completely ruining it. Kids being kids, didn't give up and tried another disc, again, completely ruining the disc- the kind of scratch this will not get out. Ps the "resurfacing fluid" is primarily distilled saline. Try that first with some muscle behind a soft cloth, you have a better chance saving your games!
Customer Service is hopeless. I would warn anyone to NOT buy this product. Perhaps I got a bum machine, but Digital Innovations will do nothing to rectify the situation.
I had to leave a star. The system wouldn't let me leave zero.

"Works great"
SkipDR works great on CDs and DVDs that are not too far gone. Of 6 discs there was one disk that looked like a spider web and it could not fix that but the other 5 of my kid's game discs that were scratched - presto - they are playable again.

What our customer's say!

"As advertised.", I've used the SkipDoctor on mutiple CDs that wouldn't play all the way through and every one works without flaws now. I even used it on a blank that was scratched enough that I worried whether or not I should dare burn to it. After using the SkipDoctor I was able to burn to the disk without problems and playback is just as flawless.

Follow the instructions and this thing works exactly as advertised. I highly recommend it to anyone who has disks that need some maintenance.

"Best Disc Repair device around", This is the best by far. If your going to buy one buy this one because the rest dont fix 3" discs, just 5". Ive also tried the Aleratec one, and this one seems more efective. I say this because it seems like this one removes more material from the disc though leaving the surface smoother. The Aleratec just sort of lightly buffs the surface. Also the design is really good, because its compact. You store the liquid bottle and both cloths within the device itself and the disc holder on the side. The people that complain that their discs are warped is because you have to spay the disc with the liquid provided to keep the temperature down. Theres friction here. The only donwnside however, is that it is LOUD. Dont be worried about the patter that this makes on the disc, its normal and that the purpose of the whole thing, this makes it easier for the lens to read the data.

"Didn't Work for Me", At this moment, this product has 8 5-star reviews and 11 1-star reviews. I'm afraid I'm having to make it 12. I tried to repair 2 DVDs which freeze, though neither has any particularly deep scratches. I believe I followed the directions to the letter, and even re-did it after reading some of the instructions in the customer reviews. Well, I now have 2 more coasters, 2 less DVDs, and a SkipDoctor headed for the trash bin. Very disappointing.

"SkipDr. was able to save some sick Discs.", Pros-Skip doctor so far has been able to save several of my kids scratched up game discs that has more than paid for itself in savings of replacing expensive x box 360 games. So far 6/6 games repaired. Con-Product seems a bit flimsy in construction.Dont know if product will last with repeated use. Also refill for repolishing fluid and disc replacement a bit pricey.Sound of device in use a bit annoying.Overall would repurchase Skip Doctor again.

"Don't Waste Your Money on This Product", I have yet to fix a single cd, dvd or video game disc with this type of gadget. Save yourself a whole lot of time (it is a long painstaking process), energy and money by just simply buying a replacement cd, dvd or game disc. I hope that others will learn from my mistake.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"When it worked, it worked fairly decently", It doesn't make discs worse. And it doesn't fix every possible scratch. Some people here think it'll fix severely damaged discs. It is intended only for reasonable damage.

However, I spent $49 for the motorized version at Best Buy. It worked and I'd give it about 9 out of 10 rating scale on fixing the library's badly scratched discs. But a year later (maybe less!), it appears as if the internal gears are stripped. Apparently the gears inside are plastic and don't last long. Unfort., there's not much choice on CD scratch repair machines to choose from. I am forced to have to buy the manual version now, or go back to what I was using before - a drill-powered buffing wheel and car finish buffing compound.

"Makes Damage Worse", This product will not fix your disc, I tried to fix a damaged CD and it only made the problem worse. I ended up throwing away the CD and the SkipDoctor. This is a poorly designed and manufactured product that does not work, I wish someone would have told me this before I spent money on it.

"A worthless product", The good news is that the motorized SkipDoctor is easy to use. Unfortunately, the bad news is that it doesn't work. I tried to repair two disks, parts of which had become unplayable. After the process both disks appeared to be badly scratched. Again, the good news is that the process didn't make either disk play any worse. But it also didn't fix either disk's problems. Save your money.

"This thing rocks !!!!", Since I have so many CD's, DVD's and video games I wanted this for the few disks that did give me problems. My first one to fix was AC/DC live. A great CD but it skipped during "for those about to rock". This is the grand ending to show show. Well something happened over the years and this thing was hurting. I used the SkipDoctor on it and it works fine now. I also tried it on another CD I have had for about ten years and now it works great too. I told my nephew I got this and he wanted me to use it on a GameCube disk. This was scratched really bad, and I mean all over the place. It kept giving him error upon error. The cool thing is that the GameCube attachement is not needed for this model. So I used the SkipDoctor on it a few times and it has not skipped since. Some people have said the disk looks a little funny after the process, however I would rather have a working disk that the bottom looks strange on than a disk that will not work at all.

"Believe The Hype!", Remember back in the day when CDs first came out? I do: hi-fi shops and all my male relatives proudly did these demonstrations of scatching a cd, putting it into a player, PLAY & *presto* the disc played.

Well, either they were making bomb-proof players back thens or the laser never got to the scratched bit of the disc because I used to have piles of discs were handled carelessly and didn't play. Yes, you read correctly: I USED to have stacks of unplayable discs.

If you don't read any further, you can stop at the end of this sentence: SKIP DR WORKS!

Here's the short of it

1. I have my own multination consulting firm
2. I have worked with computer in the media and creative industries for over 20 years
3. I dislike misleading reviews
4. I dislike wasting my time looking for products that work
5. I dislike being lied to & wasting my money and
6. I dislike people aggressively selling me stuff that they have little knowledge about & frankly doesn't work

On top of that, I am impressed NEITHER by people that trash products that do work NOR people that work for certain manufacturers, create ghost profiles and trump up their employer's products.

SKIP DOCTORS works.

I own over 3,500 discs. Out of that number, I had countless discs -- from my beloved Trance Planet disc, a Jessye Norman classical and spirituals collection, stuff by Miles Davis, reams of and Nina Simone compilations to computer program discs, backups of various creative projects, rare SACDs (SuperAudio CDs) and stuff that got mangled at parties or being dragged around the world before CreativeLabs and Ipod came on the scene -- that were ALL unreadable.

I have seen the sprays, I have seen the wipes, I have seen the low grade sandpaper product, I have tried using BRASSO metal polish (a remedy recommended by a friend of mine from Venezuela -- and for little scratches actually works) and low-grade industrial solvent. HANDS DOWN, short of the industrial strength polishing machines (that handle 500 plus discs at a time and go from $1500 to over $5000), SKIP DR (and all its incarnations GAME DR / DVD DR / PHOTO DR) WORKS. Period.

Why did I only rate the product '4 stars'?

Simple: this review is about the mechanical version of the product. And I am lazy: mechanised means EFFORT.

Will I buy the mechanised version?

Definitely! The product is in my shopping basket will be ordered (when I finish writing this review to set the record straight!)
