"Still Best Aerial Combat Movie After 40 Years"
I've seen some really dumb reviews for this movie since it came on Blu-Ray. One review called it "a failure as a story". I guess a movie about the first country to stand up against Nazi aggression and Hitler's war machine to fight and stop their takeover is a failure as a story to most meat-heads these days. Nerds probably wanted it fought out by androids that are almost human armed with laser cannons and guys dressed like elves and wizards. But for me, this has to be one of the greatest stories to come out of WWII and the movie undoubtedly has the best aerial combat scenes of any movie to date from any time period. This is due to the use of as many authentic aircraft as possible and giant radio controlled monsters as they could find. Are the effects always perfect or the aircraft 100% authentic? No. But what you wind up with is the closest thing to the historical battle as we'll get without having lived it. This movie shows the key moments and events that happened as effectively as it could from both sides. It gives us a glimps into the personalities that were engaged in combat but keeps focus on the battle at hand. Yes, they had to throw in some love story for the guys at the studio, but it doesn't become a cheesy centerpiece like so many end up. It damn sure isn't Pearl Harbor (thank God), and it's not Band of Brothers, but it still remains as the top movie for air combat that I've ever seen and I recommend it to anyone interested in war birds or military history buffs.

"Blu Ray Release"
I'm disapointed in the Blu Ray release of this movie.
Over the years I've purchased the different format release's, VHS,DVD,Collectors Editions, etc.and was looking forward to a crisp Blu Ray high definition picture.Unfortunately it seems the studio has simply released the SD DVD version with no added features.
Compare this with the Blu Ray release of ' Patton ' which is stunning.

"Pretty Poor"
There is too little story or character development. There are many people shooting at each other, dieing, getting burned, bailing out etc. but that is most of the movie if that is what you want. Though I watched it to the end with my wife. we found it quite boring. My son who I thougt would really like the movie got bored after about 45 minutes and left to play his combat flying computer game.

The few minute scenes with Polish volunteer pilots with the British RAF was a nice touch.

"Battle of of Britain (Collector;s Edition)"
If you owned the VHS copy of Battle of Britain like I did, this is the copy that you want to buy. Wow! What a difference in color, clarity, and sound. The additional feature of interviews with the cast and crew that played (option) while watching the film really shed light on the production and filming. I always wondered how many airplanes were real, and how many were models. Now I know.

If your into films like The Blue Max, 12 o'clock High, and The Hunters, you will want to add Battle of Britain (collector's edition) to your collection.

"No "Extras" but fantastic Blu-Ray quality"
I purchased the Collector's 2-Disc Edition a few weeks ago and throughly loved it, especially the Extras disc. Yesterday, I purchased the Blu-Ray disc. The Extras disc on the SD version gave so much important background information about how they were able to create and shoot all of the fantastic aerial shots with only a few airplanes and it gave great info about the actors. This movie has an all-star "A" list of British actors, and who knew that they worked for Union Scale just to help make this film? No inflated "superstar" payments! I agree that the BluRay should have come with an Extras disc. I am so glad that I had purchased the Collector's Edition previously. I watched the SD and Blu-Ray in an A-B comparison today, switching between an Upconverting DVD player and my PS3 being pumped into my Sony SXRD KDS55-A3000 TV with 1080p/120HZ, and the Blu-Ray is just so much better visually that it's hard to describe. I felt like I was standing on the grass air fields right next to the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Heinkels and ME-109's. The movie gets a 5, but not having an Extras disc downgrades the rating to a 4.

"Alex_Tiny", The TV picture was awesome. Lots of action with great action. What also really impressed me was the sound, If you are a World War II movie fan, then this is a must addition to your library.
I purchased this picture as a gift for my son who lives and works in Thailand. I was concerned that it wouldn't play on his Play Station 3 Japanese unit. FYI it worked just fine.

"Good Copy", Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

"What happened to thr rest of the movie??", Great movie and superb acting. The aircraft used was unbelieveable. The instrumental. "Aces High" was the best modern march I have ever heard. It would have been very popular back in Germany during its time. In Europe it is also known as the "Luftwaffe March".
But what happened to the rest of the movie?? There should have been atleast 20 minutes more as in the movie theaters when it first came out. Very dissaapointing especially when DVD companies seem to do this on a regular basis with movies.

" Battle of Britain", Dear Amazon:
The Blu-Ray "Battle of Britain".............is so clear and superb quality. Viewing the movie in the Blu-Ray format makes this part of history more profound. A history of WW II lover's delight for enjoyable viewing coupled with great audio quality.

"Best of the Best", Buyer beware! All the war movies get good ratings. Some are trash. This is phenominal. The best air battle scenes ever, combined with great writing. P.S. I DON'T want to know how they did it......I hate that. Ignorance is bliss.

"Blu-Ray Ripoff", Why are there no Extras on this Blu-Ray that is able to hold so much fkn space?

"Thanks...",
...MGM for region locking one of my favourite films that I've been waiting to see on Blu-Ray for so long. This release has also been stripped entirely of the marvellous extras on the SD version.
If the studios want to see this format take off they need to stop region locking certain films.
Five stars for the actual film and a big fat zero for this Blu-Ray release.

"A Classic WWII Movie", This is a great movie that depicts the struggle for air supremacy that took place over England. While a bit slow at times, it tries to show the characters on the ground as well. A must for WWII fans.

"Great, but it misses "the greatest" mark.", There is much attention to detail, such as the great war-planes, and the strategy. But it misses the "time-stamp". You are left wondering what time-span is represented through the movie. (FEEDBACK FROM JBGOOD: "occurred from late June thru September 1940")
Also, some significant events, such as Dunkirk, are only briefly mention or shown, causing the viewer to miss it's significance. If you research the battle of England at your own, you will understand and enjoy the movie much more. In perspective, it is a great movie that misses the opportunity to be the greatest war-movie.

"Britain's Big Patriotic Movie", Once again RAF Spitfires, Hurricanes, and Luftwaffe ME109's swirl in deadly dogfights over the White Cliffs and green fields of summer, 1940, as Ron Goodwin's stirring music underscores the action. About 100 vintage fighter and bomber aircraft were assembled for the filming (big stars in their own right) but, for me, it's all about the human cast: Lord Olivier as the dour, irascible and eccentric Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding (who, after the war, credited the ghosts of his deceased wife and lost airmen with guiding him to victory); Trevor Howard as the aggressive New Zealander, Air Vice Marshal Keith Park, who commanded fighters in the corner of Britain most susceptible to German attack; Sir Michael Caine as a young flight leader in the "Millionaires' Squadron" (one of whom actually purchased a neighboring gas station so squadron members could have access to "petrol" for their sports cars); Nigel Patrick; Christopher Plummer; Sir Michael Redgrave; Sir Ralph Richardson; Robert Shaw; and Susannah York.
In spite of the movie's dozen, or so, famous flubs, it works as entertainment, it's surprisingly accurate (although time-compressed), and even includes a very proper little love story (York and Plummer).
"Never have so many owed so much to so few". Amen.
