"Great headset for the money"
Quality product from Sennheiser. I purchased these primarily for air travel, and it is amazing to hear the difference when noise cancelation is off versus on. No more having to crank up the volume on iPod or inflight entertainment systems. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the awkwardness of the noise canceling device - however for the price this is just a minor inconvenience.

"Good Product"
This was one of the best gifts my husband got for his b'day. The product is light weight and easy fold able. The sound quality was very high compare to the sony brand. The noise cancellation works only when you insert the AAA batteries. The product is worth it's price.

"Great Bang for the Buck!"
I am a huge fan of the Sennheiser brand. I bought a pair of Sennheiser PX 100 Collapsible Headphones several years ago, and when I torched those, I bought another pair because I couldn't live without them. I asked for the PXC 250s for a graduation present (thanks mom!), as I am preparing to travel abroad and wanted a quality pair of noise-canceling headphones.

So far, I am extremely impressed with this unit. The noise canceling feature works a lot better than I expected it to (though I haven't taken them on a plane yet). It does add a bit of white noise, but this is negligible when compared to the background noise that the set cancels out. I have a small head, and the headphones fit me perfectly when on the most compact setting. The padding makes them comfortable enough to wear for an extended period of time. The set comes with an airplane adapter (though I think most airlines are using standard mini jacks now), as well as a stereo adapter. All of these goodies are packaged in a double pocket soft shell case, and for a lot less than pretty much any other quality brand out there.

So far, the only cons I have are as follows:

-Unit is a bit bulky, especially if not using the noise canceling feature.
-I prefer the hard shell case of the PX100, especially for travel.
-Sound quality is NOWHERE NEAR that of the PX100s, which have rich lows and clear highs with my 5G iPod. I tried bumping the EQ up to "R&B" to get the bass up with the PXC250s, but they still don't have nearly the sound quality I'm used to with the PX100s. This isn't too big of a hangup for me, because I mainly wanted the noise canceling feature and am willing to sacrifice a little of the sound quality if I can actually hear what it is I'm supposed to be listening to.

In short, I'm very pleased with the noise canceling features and overall performance of the PXC250s, but I'll be bringing my PX100s with me on the trip for everyday use.

"Great value for affordable, noise-canceling headphones"
I can't speak for the Bose or Sony headphones like this set, but I can speak to the fact that my wife and I spent an 8-hour flight with these headphones and they worked great, felt comfortable, and made the audio of movies and songs sound terrific on the plane (and in our hotels rooms). I feel that the Sennheiser PXC 250 headphones are a great purchase (along with some rechargeable batteries).

"I did not expect more"
I expected what I got. Isn't that what is supposed to be a good purchase?

What our customer's say!

"very disappointing", I have been traveling with a pair of Sony MDR-NC11 noise canceling headphones for years. When they broke right before a holiday trip I decided to try these. Sennheiser usually makes very good products and this pair of headphones seemed perfect for travel and was almost half the price of the Sony pair I had been using.
While they were light and easily folded into a nice storage pouch, the noise reduction unit was large and inconvenient. The sound quality was extremely disappointing. Even setting the bass on my ipod or video player at max it made little difference. The 'noise cancellation' slightly muted the sound of the plane engines, but did nothing to help with the voices and crying babies nearby. After 6 hours the pressure of the earphones on my ears started to hurt quite a bit.
I returned them immediately and will gladly pay the extra money for the Sony pair.

"A Traveler's Must Have", Sennheiser PXC 250 Active Noise Canceling Headphones

These headphones are a great buy. Noise cancelling on air flights is very good allowing you to blank out screaming kids and other intrusions and sound reproduction is quite acceptable as well. My wife got tired of punching me in the arm to get my attention and insisted I get her a set. I highly recommend these.

"pleased", sound good, very comfortable. noise canceling part is a little strange though, makes a very faint white noise sound, but if you are in a loud environment they work pretty well and you wont hear the white noise

"Sennheiser PXC 250 Active Noise Canceling Headphones", Great 'budget' product..., works well and is compact. A handy travel alternative to my favourite pair of active noise reduction 'phones: Phitek 'BlackBox' (see: www.phitek.com or www.blackboxonline.com) - AMAZING performance, looks and value against bigger name brands!

"very good product", I compared this product with the Panasonic noise cancelling earphones RP-HC55 and the JLab JBuds J2 earphones. In a recent Consumer Reports article, the Panasonic is rated above the Sennheiser unit. Based on noise cancelation/isolation alone, I'd rate the Sennheiser as best, then the Panasonic (to my own surprise) only slightly above the JLab product. Having said that, I am looking forward to products that can do an even better job in noise cancellation/isolation. For music, there are slight differences among these three units, based on different songs/music, but to my ears, not a discernible difference. For noise isolation/cancellation alone, I recommend the Sennheiser product, but one has to place purpose above cost for this feature.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great headphones; small price", This is the second pair of Sennheiser PXC 250 I've bought...I wore the first ones out! They have been hauled in my backpack, worn on the bus, tossed around the house...they work well, no matter what. The battery lasts a long time (I have a bad habit of forgetting to switch it off). They sound cancelling is very good; I ride a bus every work day, and these headphones do a good job of keeping the din to a dull roar, while allowing enough ambient noise through that I don't get run over by a truck while walking with them on.

They are very comfortable. Also, they do pretty good as a pair of earmuffs (I live in Upstate NY; it's 20 degrees here today!).

I haven't tried any other noise-cancelling headphones. Most have bad reviews, or really high prices. These headphones do a good job of the noise cancelling, and don't cost too much.

"Must-have for long flights, great for short flights", I bought these because of my frequent plane trips. For you international travelers these are a must-have. When my plane landed after nine hours in flight, I felt less fatigued than without the headphones. Usually, I feel worn out from the constant din in the cabin. With normal headphones you can barely hear the in-flight movie. With these I could hear the dialog without straining - it was actually enjoyable.

"Large Heads be Careful!", You basically get what you pay for here. They are not expensive and do a decent job of canceling the noise. "However" they are quite "fiddly" to fold and unfold (after many trips with them I still have to experiment until I get it right), and if you have a large sized head, like mine, they could use an extra inch of length on both sides to fit completely in the center of my ear without pulling them uncomfortably tight down on my head. Beware 'cause you can't try them on at Amazon.com! I have had no issues with the position of the battery case on the cord like other reviewers. You just get used to it being there and it's always easy to find when you need the switch or to change the battery.

"As good as more expensive models", I bought these to replace a pair of Sharper Image noise cancelling headphones which were stolen at the gym. I used the recently on a commercial flight and they did eliminate a lot of the background rumble from the airplane. My seat-mate had the Bose mid-range noise cancelling headphones (quiet comfort...2 I think) and we traded for a bit to compare. I noticed no difference in the noise cancelling abilities of the two sets. (I did not listen to enough music with the Bose to do an extensive sound quality comparison).

Pros: Folds to about the size of a large sunglasses case. Fairly lightweight. Decent (but not perfect) noise cancelling. Good sound quality in the mid-range (I heard things in my music I never knew were there)

Cons: The separate battery thing is a little awkward, as mentioned in other reviews. And I could still hear screaming babies on the plane.

Overall: I am happy with my purchase. They are great for travel, especially considering the small size and light weight. Also you can share them with someone else (unlike the ear canal models which would be just too personal to share). For me it was a good intersection of price and performance (1/3 the price of Bose but the same noise canceling ability...and less space in my carry on).

"AAA Batties Saved Me From Throwing These at a Wall", I got both my Sansa 4GB mp3 player and these headphones early - I was so happy. It was practically a week before their due date and personally I was getting angry with other purchases from this site that took soooooooo long.

Anyway, so I'm all, "I GOT MY FIRST SOUND CANCELLING HEADPHONES!!!" and I pop them in and start jamming. I'm a rock music fan, especially with bands like 5FDP or All That Remains - basically, really hardcore heavy stuff. Instantly I notice something is up - THERE WAS NO BASS. Needless to say I nearly flipped. $80 or so right down the tubes.

Finally losing the persona of a typical consumer, I read the instruction manual. The little noise cancelling stick thinger actually increases the quality of your music as well - or so I found out after I popped in 2 AAA batteries. I've never heard ANY headphones, no matter what equalizer setting you have them on, have this great of sound quality.

I clapped my hands a few times to see how well these worked. I could still hear it so I assumed maybe I had wasted a bit of money. I flipped through a few screens on youtube and started playing Two Weeks (All That Remains) on high quality (add &fmt=18 to the link at the end) and then nearly fell off my chair when my friend appeared next to me. I couldn't even hear a word of what she was saying!

Such a great buy for its price - they're fashionable as well as high quality. :D
