"Great with Windows 2000/XP; at least partially(!)..."
For DVD-Video editing/creating, I use Roxio's VideoWave 7 Professional. For everything else this is great! I've had great success with win2000; it's designed for XP/ME/98 as well. 2000/XP users w/NTFS partitions will be best off; ANY user w/FAT32 partitions will likely experience some craziness! I use Norton Ghost for backup/imaging: so even if my computer spontaneously combusts(!), I can rebuild it pretty quickly. My Fave's- attractive interface, excellent html help, Creator Classic with Disc Copier, AudioCentral, Label Creator, and Drag-to-Disc: these are amazing! With *just these* components & a DVD+/-RW drive, this software *should* actually be pretty stable- it works great on my system! (AthlonXP 3000+; 512MB memory.) Disc Copier copies CDs/DVDs that aren't copy protected, yet I've copied a few store-bought items: a music CD; a cheap PC game CD; an instructional DVD(!); a foreign NTSC DVD(wow!). Creator Classic makes all kinds of discs- Data, Music, MP3, Enhanced, Mixed-Mode, Bootable & more! AudioCentral effectively rips, burns, converts & manages MP3s, WMAs, WAVs & OGGs. It's even greater now with the new mp3PRO Plug-in encoder available at Roxio's website (highly recommended!). I've converted audio tapes, with my analog-in sound card, into high-quality MP3 CDs with professional looking labels! Drag-to-Disc is especially important to me because win2000 (my favorite OS) can't write to CDs/DVDs without extra software help. This is a tremendously versatile package! For most of my CD/DVD needs, this product is all I need! Official Caveat Time- *PLEASE BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE INSTALLATION!* Glitches, bugs, hangs & crashes can be experienced all throughout this product. Make sure Windows is up-to-date with all recent service packs & patches. If you install the entire product to see what it can do, then decide you can do without a few features, it's best to uninstall the whole package, restart the computer, and then reinstall only the needed features with their corresponding updates. Check Roxio's support page for common issues/problems to evaluate risk! (Especially win98/ME users!)

*UPDATE 2006*: At one point, for whatever reason, my roxio software stopped detecting my drives altogether. I heard someone say: If EZCD6 ever says "no drive detected", google search EEZ000005 to find a helpful link & potential fix from Roxio. I did this, and the fix was a small software download called DriveFixEZ_Installed.exe. I ran this and it worked! All my drives were detected again. Still though: Roxio makes it exceedingly difficult at times to find help and potential fixes. They may have even removed that help page I just mentioned(!). Otherwise, this software really *can* be great. It just occasionally seems to be more frustrating than it's worth...

"WARNING!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!"
I purchased this product and when I record it gives me an error message. When I went to the Roxio website it says that the error can be fixed by purchasing Roxio version 7! I have lost many cds trying to get this rip off to work! They are thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"After installing made a complete mess of my Sony Software."
This software in not a measureable improvement on their Basic Roxio 5.
After installing Roxio 6, I experienced so many problems with my installed software that I had no choice but to abandon the Roxio 6. To those out there who have Sony software installed, DO NOT ATTEMPT the installation of Roxio 6.
Reading their incompatible guide at their Web site, I'm amazed that Roxio will run in tandem with any comparable software.
I award one star, 'cause the system will not allow a lower rating.

"Doesn't install"
I have had this product for months now, and I cannot install it on my computer. Roxio "support" has been no help. There is an upgrade available at their website, but it hasn't done anything to help me install this product. I'd love to hear from other's who have had this problem!!!

"I switched to Nero...it is so much better"
I foolishly bought the upgrade for Roxio. I've used Roxio for several months and it is just a collection of programs that do not fit well together. I finally switched to Nero. It is the only way to go.

What our customer's say!

"Works Fine!", I too read all the negative reviews on this product but decided to go ahead with trying it anyway. I have the home edition of Windows XP and it works just fine on mine. I don't use the photosuite or dvd builder, I only needed a burner and something to make my own music discs. I had versions 4 and 5 before and I figured this one could not be as bad as was written. But that's just my experience, I'm sure the other people had the problems they say. It's up to each person to decide I guess.Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum Edition

"Crashed a lot and isn't compatible with newer hardware or operating systems. ", Crashed a lot and isn't compatible with newer hardware or operating systems. I ended up buying Nero and giving this away.

"Software nightmare", This is probably the most user-unfriendly software I've ever bought when it comes to creating music CDs. Everytime I needed to burn a music CD I had to go to the tutorial for the various steps. Version 5 was great compared to 6. The only problems with 5 is that it can't be used with Windows XP and you have to download a patch to fix the problems with it.

I had no problem like others with installing 6. However some months after I did install it I started having problems with the "drag and drop" software. This is software that can be used to "drag and drop" any file (music or non-music) to burn a CD. It turned out to be a nightmare. CDs were not able to be finalized. When you install the drag and drop software it simply takes over for the CD burning method of Windows XP (which is far, far superior). I uninstalled the software and simply did a custom install by just installing the photosuite (the only useful thing in Creator 6).

"Want marginal customer support? Buy any Roxio product!", I purchased the Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum Edition in November 2004, after Microsoft's SP2 for Windows XP made my Basic 5 version unusable. I've been exchanging emails with Roxio Technical Support ever since. I can burn a data CD only to a CDR (for some reason ECDC 6 does not recognize my CDRWs). I cannot copy a CD using the Disc Copier function. For some reason the ECDC 6 recognizes my burner only through the Creator Classic function.

What is wrong with companies these days? They grab the money and run. Never mind whether the customer gets the functionality they are paying for.

I'll be looking into Nero or Sonic, which I've heard positive comments from live users.

Amazon.com, on the other hand, is one customer-oriented company!

"You buy this and loose customer support", Do you know if u ever need to get support, or to download a patch for your paid Roxio software, registration IS required from their website?! Yes everytime you need an software update/patch, you need to login with password. Registration needs an valid email address and your ROXIO software key. Thanks to this COMPULSORY registration I need to keep record for one more login/password combination. And Pray that you don't loose your cd key.

BTW if your cdburner came with a bundle Roxio Easy creator, forget any update / support from roxio since you dont get a cd key. Somehow this is one evil way ROXIO try to get your business. if one day you upgrade your operating system and need to update for the bundle roxio software, you have to BUY the retail version Easy Creator.

"beta site", Being an engineer, I can only believe that software engineers must run Roxio. The product is always being "upgraded" which means, where I work, fixed for a poor early release, and or the engineers want to keep playing with it. I should have known when I saw the 1 inch thick Manual that came with Creator Platinum, that I was in for a long difficult ride! If you have patience and a masters in I.T. you probably will enjoy being Roxio's Beta site and using the product. If not you will be totally frustrated. I have gotten it to work fairly well, but always come to a dead end that can't be answered in the manual. Trying to get assistance is virtually impossible. You can e mail the tech folks, but be ready for days of unanswered questions, then back and forth for weeks, when all that was needed was a short phone call. Oh yes, you can get phone assistance but you'll spend a lot ...more then the software costs. For my money its easier to use Nero.
Oh yes, if you only have a dial up connection, you'll spend many hours on line trying to download updates that might not solve anything. I expect that version 7 isn't much different.
Good luck.

"Things to consider", Before purchasing Easy CD & DVD Creator 6, I came to this section of Amazon to read what other people had to say about it. I read some horror stories about the installation and use of Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Still, I rolled my dice and decided to give it a try anyways.

After installing, updating, and using the program, I concluded one more time what I always suspect when I read the words of folks with a sour taste in their mouth.

I seriously suspect that these folks' computers run on an Operating System ~usually a version of Windows~ that has been trashed by installing and wrongly un-installing tons of software many of which were possible written by "I don't care" minded developers. Most likely, their computers never receive a proper and periodic maintenance.

As it may well be expected, these folks installed Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 in their flaky and unstable computers and run into lots of problems. Their ignorance in this matter lead them to blame the program as the source of their problems.

I am the opposite kind of computer user. I do not install software unless it comes from a serious and responsible developer. I do not install software just for the sake of downloading something. I perform a good and solid maintenance every day at the end of a computer sesion.

I installed Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 without one single problem. The program immediately let me know that there was an update which I downloaded and installed flawlessly. I registered it in a cinch. I restarted my computer, and begun using Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 right away. Boy . . . was I impressed !

There is a clear overall improvement over the Version 5 Platinum. All the modules or areas do what they are supposed to do, and they do it very well. I congratulated myself for purchasing it. I can do with this new version all I need to do, and I do it happyly without a sour taste in my mouth.

Of course, I learned a long time ago the importance of good and solid maintenance that I periodically perform not only with my car but also with my computer. I also learned to ask myself "Who wrote this program" before I download a new software that may likely corrupt and make my Windows XP unstable.

Should my words make sense to you, then trust me if I tell you that Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 is a very good piece of software, and at under U$S 30.00 including S&H at Amazon is a heck of a good deal.

But do not fail to ask yourself "What is the condition of my Operating System ?". The answer will determine the taste in your mouth.

"When Good Software Goes Bad", I have been using Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum successfully for quite some time. I tend to go for updates of a product when I'm happy it. So, I ordered Easy CD Creator CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum at an excellent price from Amazon.

Big mistake! I find that it is unstable -- sometimes working, other times freezing my system (Microsoft XP Home). The worst thing about it, however, is that it refuses to read CD-RW disks that were written with Creator 5 and read absolutely FINE with Creator 5. That was the last straw!

I do have something positive to say about the Easy CD Creator CD & DVD 6 Platinum. It uninstalls well. Now excuse me while I get back to using my reliable, if not as capable, Creator 5.

"Huge improvements are really needed", I purchased Roxio 6 platinum edition about 1 year ago and it worked fine (well at least initially). But for the last 2-3 months I started having problem with my CD-RW/DVD-RW burner(This drive came installed on my "Dell" computer when I purchased it 14 months ago along with Roxio basic edition 5).
Once a CD-R/RW is inserted into the drive Roxio 6 alerts you that this disc in not prepared and formatted, so you can not use it.Therefore you have to format it using the "Format Disc" option, a process wich takes 25-45 minutes. Only thenafter is the disc ready to use (i.e. saving files on it) just as a floppy disc(i.e. you cane erase a single or multiple file(s) witout the need to erase the whole disc completely). As I mentioned all the features(e.g saving ,CD burning, music or data disc creating ,label creating ...etc)supported by roxio platinum 6 worked fine for the first several months. (note:I have not used it with DVD discs).
Then the problems started.
1.Blank new CDs can not be formated any more. That means that the blank CDs can not be used for saving and burning since they require preparation and formatting. So my CD/DVD burner now is turned into a CD/DVD Rom drive.
2.The CD-RW disc that I successfully formated with the same software can now no more be used as formmated CD-RW (i.e a single file can not be removed unless the entire disc is erased)
3.The shortcut icon on the desktop sometimes does not respond to the mouse click as it used to several months ago. So I have to reboot my PC.
4.When I try to use other CD-R/RW which, on which I saved files
using my old "sony" PC, Roxio patinum 6 recognized the disc and opened the files. BUT I could not save(add) new files because I got the message "the disc is not formated". Formating it will erase all of the previously saved data in addition it ,formating, won`t be successfull. That what happened to me when I lost important data saved on disc but the disc itself could not be formated.
Those problems left me with crappy software and CD/DVD burner.
I used several CD brand "Memorex,Sony, Staples,ofiice-depot" but all ended with the same annoying and disappointing results.
If you are willing to take a riks buy it. It might keep working fine with your PC and CD or CD/DVD burner for more than the initial few months
Thanks

"loser", created a CD from hard drive files and when I tried to view them from CD was told disc could not be read and I was asked to perform scandisk to "recover" files. I followed instructions and lost everything. this product is a failure.
