"The best game I've ever played"
I was hopeful when I bought the two games that they would be enjoyable, having already played the first three Cossacks games. They only got better and American Conquest and ACFB topped them all. Wonderful graphics-even on a slow-running machine, and the unit limit! 16,000 units! Actually, for me that wasn't the case. I put the games on an old computer and therefore I had to stay content with 5,000. Still a heck of a lot of men. But that was on a seven-year-old computer with no supporting graphics card and 233Mhz processor. The units are astounding, and the building are amazing. They appear a little large at first, but you get used to them.
However, a few notes on what I found wrong with the games. Note: These are just preferences of mine, not errors.
1. I don't know who does historical research for GSC, but they gave the American fusilier the highest initial hand-to-hand combat rating of the game---and the Americans couldn't even stand up to a bayonet attack for the first few years of the revolution.
2. The sword-fighting infantry-every shooting unit has two weapons, gun and blade- has no sound. Which is disappointing, because the animation of the sword-fights is incredible.
3. The cannon need horses. Their animation is beautiful, almost ballet-like, but they move so SLOW!
4. I've had several battles end in a stalemate on random map because every time my Indians tried to invade the town they got shot to pieces--and every time the Europeans attacked me they got destroyed. Otherwise. A great game

"Great and very promising game!"
Amazing game! It's not like those war games, where you think you control and entire army and actually only control 4 guys. This game you actually DO control an entire army! It's amazing!!!!!! Historically accurate, which means it's also great for educational purposes. Amazing, and the graphics are pretty good too! If you don't buy this game, especially since the price is really low, then I'd be completely shocked. This is my favorite game of all time.

"Think First"
I first looked on Amazon and thought American Conquest was a cool game, I even found a discount for the gold edition. It looked like a good game right? Wrong! I threw some money right down the drain!

Pros
The game has an awosome campain.
You get a great variety of civs.( Though they basicly just look diffrent.)
You get a ton of units.
The music wasn't terribly annoying

Cons
The game laggs way, way too much. (At the time I had more than half my memorey, which is 37 gigs.)

The game was way too realisic.(As in if you run low on recorces all your millatry units would turn on you, or out of fifty freacking guys only one acually hits the guy and it takes like three minutes just to reload.)

When one building or ship is hit it keeps on taking dammage even when your villagers repair it.

The second you build a guy recorces start depleting( There for you need like 150 guys just to be working on one recorce to stop it from going down at break neck speed

AND FINALLY THE THING THAT IS NOT JUST STUPID BUT IS MY FINAL PLEA NOT TO BUY THIS GAME IS THAT IT DESTROYS YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!
My dad and I are complete computer tecno wizards and it took both of us a month to un-do every all the damage American Conquest did to me.

"Very nice game!"
This game is really awesome. i think it is one of the best command and conquer type games out there! way better than all those age of empire games which seem so simple and boring compared to this!great graphics too! CDV makes some great great games! i just ordered cossacks2:naploenic wars from them and can't wait till it comes!

"One in the same"
If you have played Cossacks, then you will know exactly what this game is all about. Nothing spectacular with graphics or storyline, but easy to learn and fun to play. Just don't expect Age of Empires.

"MORE BRITISH UNITS!!!", Och where are the Highlanders? if there were Highlanders this game would rock! If there were a whole frickin' Scottish playable country it would be the best.

"this is a great game", in some ways it's almost like a board game with realism so don't expect to much awe out of the game that way. i owned the game before but i have to re-order because i lost the disk. this is a classic, in other words it never gets too old. the historical accounts by the game makers are unsurpassed. this is a lot more basic than the newer ages that are out but it is still a great game. if you enjoy cossacks this is a great starting point. i never get bored of this game, it's a great way to kill time lol. i wish more modern games would have more game play features like this but many lack the true strategy aspect. if you like balancing a civilization plus controlling it's army this game is for you.

"Two days and tired of it", Not much else I can add to these other reviews. But yes, you can have thousands of troops in battle at once. But no one mentions what a tiring process it takes to create that many troops. I spent 3 straight hours of building, upgrading & turning my peasants into troops. In all, I had about 2,000 troops in those 3 hours. Compared to the 5,000 my enemies had while set on easy.

If you got a lot of time on your hands to build mills for food, mines, dwellings to produce peasants, forts to send your peasants to so you can turn them into troops, not to mention all the upgrades on everything blah blah.. then by all means get this.

Often times they are so many things going on it becomes a task to keep up with it all. This is definitely a game for someone with a lot of free time. I had fun with it for two days, but it got old quick.

"unreasonably realistic ", the game is too realistic to produce any fun. there are lot of things which the computer knowns and the players don't. unfortunatly the computer gets a head start at things. the realism takes the fun things out of it. unreasonable things also go wrong in this game. characters don't follow what u tell them to do, it should be that way!

"lol good times", well lets see, its a fun game, i enjoyed watching all my buildings and people get slaughtered when i tred playing. id build up a fairly decint defence just to watch a massive army built by ai come and slughter me. but once u get the hang of it its actually quite fun. the grafics are really good. on the bonus missions i got threw like the first 3 then thats stupid boat mistion where they give you like 5 small boats and 3 large ones, wtf how do they ecspect you to shoot down there massive ships with little musski guys on row boats. i actually ALOMST beat it BUT i ran outa AMMO. witch i find a little lame and to relistic for my likeing, its like ok i just pain alot of cash for u and now u run outa ammo and i have no more gun powder... just to watch the oher boat come and shoot the crap out it and its helpless. but other then have to be really smart and tacticul, cause the AI kinda need some help, its fun. i was greatly disheartend when i acsedental scratched the disc and it wouldint work i cryed alittle on the inside.lol but alsa i moved on. i hate thouse people that dissed age of empire and empire earth, thouse are alose great games of course u cant have quite and many units but u cant tell me that blowing up casles with like 20 catipults is not fun. and cobra car code now thats cool. all and all its a great game that i will buy again cause now i wana play it.lol oh and if anybody that reads this has CORSAIRS: Gold plz email me at matt_the_jackal_and_kati@yahoo.com plz do cause ive scoured the high seas for this game and have not found it. "This is one really cool game!", This game is fun to play and easy to learn. There are 16 campaigns and about 50 missions inside them. There is also 10 battlefield missions which require good stratagy to win and 16 single missions. U can customize ure own maps and play random games. There even is a multiplayer section.

"A quite a surprise to me. ", I didn't know what to expect, so the first thing that surprised me were the absolutely lush graphics. RTS games have always been a bit on the staid side when it comes to terrain graphics - plenty of detail but something always seems to be missing. Not so with AC, the ground detail is superb, rivers flow beautifully and trees and bushes are particularly lifelike. Although everything is 2D sprites, the units are fantastic and there is a real sense of a 3D element.
The game appears to try and maintain an accurate historical timepath, running from Columbus' landing, right through to the American Revolution. When playing in campaign mode, you get a little history lesson at the start of each new scenario that sets the scene for your objectives perfectly.
The most noticeable difference between American Conquest and any other RTS is seen in the use and creation of troops. Any one unit is exactly that - one unit, and each units strengths are accurately mapped to - A conquistador with a pike and armour is more than a match for just about any single Mayan / Aztec opponent, but slower and prone to ranged fire. This tends to lead to battles on an epic scale with upwards of 500 units engaged on the screen at once (with very little sign of slowdown too I must add).
Again, in a break from the traditional RTS mould, troops are not created out of thin air - if you want 100 musketeers, you will need 100 peasants to create them. Peasants are created from dwellings (the more dwellings, the higher your population limit), while the troops are created from a fortress. You therefore need to churn out an endless supply of peasants (ctrl click on any build icon gives infinite production), having set the rally point on your fortress, and, as peasants go in, your musketeers come out.
Micromanagement is kept to a fairly simple scale; you need grain to feed your population, and wood, stone, iron, gold and coal to buy / manufacture your troops and manage any upgrades. Mines have worker limits that increase with each upgrade and farming is pleasantly efficient. Resources appear to be a bit on the scarce side, so upgrading the mines and ensuring they are always maxed out with workers is a must. It is also worth setting a few troops to guard each mine as they are very easily captured.
So, having got all your mines producing and plenty of peasants gathering wood and corn, the time is right to start organizing your massive forces. This can be achieved by forming them into armies, controlled by an officer with a standard bearer and drummer also required for morale purposes. Unfortunately for you, you'll find that the officers are not much into leading from the rear, and have a bad habit of charging in and getting killed quickly, leaving you with an effective, but not so easily controlled force. Also bear in mind that you will need a lot of troops - buildings can be (and often are) heavily defended and you will lose an awful lot of troops capturing buildings (mind you, when you get cannons, you can just blow them up from a great distance).
Adding some good sound really enhances the battles and AC does it perfectly - the music is not too loud and the battle sounds and effects are realistic.
As said before, buildings can be defended - all you need do is stick a few troops inside and any building becomes a virtual blockhouse. However, they are by no means impregnable as a great deal of though has gone into building defence and there are zones of fire limited by the buildings themselves - once you can get troops inside these zones they cannot be hit by ranged fire and can then storm the building - but expect heavy losses.
The same kind of detail has been applied to ranged fire - ordering a musketeer to shoot an enemy at extreme range fails more often due to the inherent inaccuracy at large ranges. This is also especially noticeable with cannons - until you manage to afford all the upgrades from your town centre.
Unfortunately, despite all the detail that has been put in place, American Conquest suffers a bit from a slightly dodgy AI. Big battles are really the name of the game here but the AI just sends continuous streams of enemy troops to harass your positions which are easily defended against, while you can build up a huge force and then just march in and wipe everything out. Also, all your units often appear to have been taking performance enhancing drugs, as the speed that they can move around at is somewhat inappropriate. Forming your troops into an army is also not without problems - setting them to `stand ground' (the army takes up a very nice box formation) means they do just that - if attacked they might fire back but generally they just stand there and take a beating. Leaving them in standard formation has the opposite effect, they will follow the enemy till either it or your army is obliterated.

"good game, very solid gameplay", This is a very good solid strategy game, and I am impressed. This game reminds me of Stronghold Crusader. These two games are the best strategy games on the market today, trust me. You don't have to play these games online to enjoy them. The realism in the game is amazing, along with the graphics, and you don't need an Area 51 computer for the game to run smooth, that in itself is a great triumph, for the makers of this game, and I salute you. The zoom feature is just right which is the L Key, Plus you can hit the enter key,,,,type...view all to reveal the map, You can type in a few more phrases,if you want to.This will probably be the only true american revolutionary game you will ever get your hands on, Go buy this game,I know a good game when I play it. One of the reviewer, said the soldiers can only fight, I beg the differ, they can shoot some of the wildlife, for food, then take it to the storehouse. I would like to clarify one of the reviewer, statement, saying the soldiers move too fast,, well let me say, there is a slider button on the option menu,so you can slow the movements of the troops, and every thing else.

"Never Will Play Another Game", 16000, is all i gotta say. That is how many people you can reieve. That Means That the population is not 200 0r 250. This game is based on the historical events not non existing battles. Want to ambush someone? If you do put your men on hold fire. When ready select all men and fire. If not all the resistance fall they will either reload or use their baynette. When the opposing force is sladered advance to their forts, fortress, church or any other building and march them in the door way. The building is now yours. And your men have survived to fight another day. Does water slow you down? Transportation ships for age of empires can only hold 20 men. Wow! American conquest ships can hold 300. So the choice is clear you must by this game.

"AWESOME!", I just downloaded the DEMO of this game today, and the demo already had me droolingto buy the game! Gathering resources and building armies is EASY! The pop cap is one of my favorite features, up to 16000!!! Unlike games like EE which only goes up to 800 maximum. Units work together and everything, and i'm only talking about the demo alone, And I can't wait to try the full version!!!
