"My review", The description of the product which was Plus! Digital Media Edition [OLD VERSION] is why I bought it. At this point I was in no rush and didn't worry aout the price of the product. I knew what I would get from the description of the product and the sellers rating because I had previous experience with the product but had no key. Also, I couldn't get the product any where or way else. The sale of the product was prompt despite a short delay but early compared to Amazon.com's prediction of when I would recieve it by. I am thankful and happy that I bought this product. It was everything the description said it would be and what it actually was when I recieved and installed it. The purchase was even responded to with an apology for the short delay which I accept.

"Terrific For Getting Your Old Records On Cds Or In Your iPod!", This is not the most current version of this software; but since it's probably still being sold new in places like eBay, I thought I'd still do a review. I bought this years ago to convert my records to CDs, but just ended up using it this year. I got a terrific Audio-Technica turntable for Christmas that plugs in easily to my PC. This is the software I'm using to convert the records. It is VERY easy to use, and has VERY easy instructions. The only one problem I had is that sometimes the hiss reduction feature will not be available if the software can't detect the spaces between the songs on an album, or if you are playing a 45. You then have to go back to the recording page, and record the blank area at the end of the record. And believe me, you don't want to leave out either the pop or hiss clean up! It's unbelievable how well they both clean up the record. (And I find this software far easier to use than the Nero that came with my Sony CD/DVD burner.)

After the software chooses the correct volume, you record whatever songs you want. Most of the time, it has been able to tell the tracks apart on my 33 records. Sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it may break the song apart. But that's very easy to correct. You also do have to type in the song info, but that's not a big deal to me. When the music has been downloaded to MY MUSIC, you can then burn it on CD, or go to iTunes and click "add a file" to get it in your iPod. The songs sound great on the iPod, too!

"Great fun at a great value", Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition is not something necessary for the enjoyment of life, but, then, neither is a computer, a cell phone, or a TV, unless you are a diehard couch potato. What this collection of utilities does is add some fun to Windows XP, and it's stuff no other operating system enjoys. I personally use Photo Story and Analog Recorder often, because they are both easy to use and a blast to use, too. The games collection could have been better, but, hey, for a little over ten bucks, why complain?

"It's OK", Don't get me wrong--this isn't a BAD product, but it really isn't very useful, either. I find the dancers are fairly amusing for a while and the analog recorder makes a really easy way to record old tapes, but that's about it. Also, the recorder ONLY records in proprietary Micro$oft .wma format instead of offering a useful-for-editing format like .wav. Because of this, the only time I ever use it is when I am feeling lazy and I have it set my recording level for me.

I would only recommend this product if:
1. Like me, you can get it "Free after rebates" (don't forget about taxes and shipping). Don't even think about paying more than $5 (after taxes, etc) for it.
2. You already know you like a certain feature (like the dancers)--don't get this hoping for something great because you will probably be disappointed
3. You have a lot of extra space on your hard drive and
4. You have a fast internet connection (Downloading dancers requires up to 20MB or more PER DANCER!)

"Ripping Vinyl Function a Rip Off", I bought this because it is advertised as the solution to ripping vinyl into digital media. Yes, it rips it, then it gives you a nice UI to MANUALLY TYPE IN the artist, album, AND SONG TITLES. Their media player used to apply this info to a list of 1..N tracks. It seems this s/w does not go to their db and gather the info for you. It is a real half hearted attempt. Maybe I expect too much from the largest s/w company in the world.

"More Microsoft Fluff", As usual, Microsoft comes up with a product that promises more than it delivers.
I expected to turn my cassette tape collection into MP3s but could not.
Plus! has an analog recorder all right, but the resulting files are in Microsoft's proprietary WMA format.
Plus! includes an audio converter. You would think that this converter would enable you to convert your WMA files into MP3 files but it does not.
The help file (a missnomer for any Microsoft help files) says I can convert to MP3 if I have an MP3 codec installed. If you don't know what a codec is, get lost!
Thank you Bill! Not only does Microsoft charge 20 bucks for something that should be standard with Windows but it still falls short of what anyone would expect.
The recorder splits tracks as it records and lets you splice either ends of tracks. However, Plus! will not let you splice the end of one track, delete the spliced end, and combine the shortened track with the next track. In essence, you can cut the begining or the end of a track but not take out, say a silence from the middle of a track. How stupid!
It is quite frustrating to see Microsoft devote time on mediocre gadgets like these when it has so much catching up to do to make its main applications work properly.
Then again, I guess Microsoft is not about making great products, just great money...

"I gave it a try....and liked it.", Good Windows XP add-on and now that Photo Story 2 is included it has made it much better... Basically Photo Story 2 is a program that allows you to take a ton of Photos, narration and sound then export them to a Movie file or CD for sharing with friends and family.... That program alone is worth the price but you get a whole lot more...

"Okay product, better options on the market", This is an alright product but certainly not excellent.

The plus dancers are interesting but you will get bored with them quickly.

The alarm clock is great if you sleep in the same room with your PC otherwise why bother

The label maker is ok but it does not as promised print the track names for you. All it does is print the playlist name with a cool graphic behind it. If you have Roxio's cd creator installed then just use that products label maker for free.

The party mode is actually useful if you decide to have a party in which your computer is the centerprice. It basically lets anyone change the song or playlist but nothing else.

The plus audio converter is pretty good but i have limited experience with it. Basically lets you convert music from one format to another with the new lossless WMA format a preference.

The Plus Sync and Go program is very nice if you have a PDA. It basically lets you auto-sync media content with your PDA everytime you plug it in. Very good if you are stuck in gridlock and want to watch the news on the way home.

It realy depends on how badly you want the features above. What is listed is all that comes with it. If you are hardcore into music and have no money then this is a great product for you. Otherwise look into other options.
