"Andromeda Strain", Sometimes when someone wants to update an older movie they try to add things. What was added here was hokey. The original book and movie made it seem like something like this could actually happen but this version introduced black holes and time travel and instead turned into a television version of a B movie. What made the original movie a classic was the writing. When updating don't get carried away, keep it simple stupid! If I had know the new version would have turned out like this I would not have bought it. This is a rental not a keeper.

"SCIENCE FICTION CLASSIC", THIS IS A GREAT ADAPTATION OF THE MICHAEL CRIGHTON CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL...THE MOVIE IS CERTAINLY DATED BECAUSE OF THE OLD TIMEY SPECIAL EFFECTS, BUT IT FAITHFULLY FOLLOWS THE BOOK...I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE MINI-SERIES AND WANTED TO VIEW BOTH TO COMPARE HOW THEY HAVE HELD UP TO CHANGES IN TECHNOLOGY...SO...IF YOU'RE A FAN OF SCIENCE-FICTION GET BOTH AND COMPARE/CONTRAST THE OLD WITH THE NEW...I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE WHO BUYS THIS MOVIE READ THE BOOK AND SEE FOR YOURSELF

"Good - but dated", This is a good story, but it is an old film and lacking in special effects. Also, I didn't feel there was much sense of drama or suspense. Almost the entire film takes place an a hidden lab. There is one semi-dramatic scene toward the end involving a fail-safe procedure. But you kind of get the sense that everything is NOT going to do to hell, so....
Basically, don't expect anything like Jurrasic Park.

The interview with Michael Chriton, which reveals his personal background as it relates to his writing career, is a positive addition.

"Sci Fi at its Best", Made in the 70's, this movie still has the suspense and good acting as it did when it was first released. Moreover, the film does a masterful job of staying close to the book. Indeed, having read the book, I feel I can make this statement with a clear conscience. Whether the newer made for TV version of the Michael Crichton book is better, I will leave for the younger reader to decide

"Andromeda Strain", Andromeda Strain is a benchmark for End of Days, all too possible sciFi. The possibility of virulent pandemic from an unknown source is well done in this fine old movie. Great entertainment for an evening at home. My second date with my wife was going to see Andromeda Strain in the theater, back in 1971. 36 years later, it is still a great movie !

"Andromeda Strain (original)", I much prefer this original to the remake. While it may be a bit slower paced, I think it is a much more believable story without all the extras that the writers of the new version must have dreamed up while on strike.

"601", More fun than a monoxide monkey on "squeeze". Scoop 7 comes down with a case of Arcturian slurping sickness. All that stands between this voracious plastic-eating mutant (no it's not Kevin Costner), and the certain destruction of humanity are our heroes, some soviet surplus equipment and Robertson's Odd Man Hypothesis (not that there's anything wrong with that). After running out of lab animals, they finally fake it out with a MIC T. Sit back, order up a 7-12, and try and work out how the buzzards survived long enough to get gassed.

"A Classic for its Time", It's easy to overlook a sci-fi movie made in th 70s. Today, they can easily appear hokey with special effects that are too far-fetched to be believable. That isn't true with this 1971 Andromeda Strain. They simply tell the story of something coming to earth that seems to be affecting humans and uses credible technology to investigate. Simple, clean sets and acting that keeps the characters "human". A Classic.

"new vs original", Ya know i watched the new version recently and I was underwhelmed. My wife is 7 years younger than me and was born when the original came out 1971. She never saw it . The original movie was sooo cool when i was a kid and also i was able to enjoy it as an adult. My parents had no problems with me watching it at 7 years old. I really dug the end with the atari like representation of the guy climbing and the laser trying to blast him...i wish these producers of the remakes would stop putting their subtle yet apparent political, social,druggie anti-establishment garbage into these movies. The old one was far superior. too bad I cant find the original on DVD I would buy it cause I kept telling my wife the original is better as we watched the new one, though some twisted part of me did enjoy the cut off thumb toss on the new one. ha ha
