What our customer's say!

"Powerful and versatile Music notation software", Music input in Musedit is very fast and user-friendly once you have acquired the necessary skills - the experienced user can bypass the menus and use keyboard shortcuts and toolbar buttons for the most common operations. But for the beginner there is a variety of input methods available (a virtual keyboard or fretboard or toolbar on the screen, or an external MIDI keyboard)

Musedit is ideal for guitarist and other string players since it supports any instrument tuning and number of strings (from 2-8). You can input the notation into Tablature or Music staff or a combination of the two (linked staff/Tab). Musedit allows at least 4 parts per staff and can handle music at all levels from beginner to virtuoso.

All styles of guitar playing are supported - classical, electric, jazz, folk etc. Musedit also supports banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, bazoukis, chapman sticks etc etc.

Musedit can also be used to notate songs, band / ensemble /orchestral parts, drum and percussion parts, vocal scores etc. You can have up to 20 parts in a score (a part can be a text line, staff, Tab line etc).

The user has control over every element of the score (to the nearest pixel!) and this allows high quality printed output. Export of all or part of the score as a graphic is also possible for putting on websites etc.

Contrary to the report below, I have found the latest version of Musedit to be very stable in operation (on Win XP and Win 98). Also I had no problems translating guitar parts into Tablature.

Most of the bugs that afflicted early versions have been ironed out; There is still room for improvement in a few areas, but overall the current version does a good job.

However technical support is not of the best. And it has been a year since the developer released the last version and still no update!

However despite a few grumbles, Musedit is still probably one of the best scoring programs available for guitarists and other stringed instrument players.

"A promising but unstable, buggy program", I have patiently been working with this program for some years now, and recently, when I learned the author has moved on to other projects, abandoned it. This software sells for upwards of $90 US online. For that kind of money, one would expect a really powerful program. MusEdit COULD be that, but it is ladened with bugs. The program has been revised numerous times and each behind each new repaired version lurks even more bugs. The program crashes frequently; I've lost a great deal of time and work when 'unexpected errors' close me down. Just recently I kept a log of the bugs I encountered during three different projects and...it's scary. The program is extremely unfriendly to editing, especially if that editing is from one version of the program to a later version. Objects on the score disappear, mis-align, move, and do the most unexpected reactions. I am a music teacher (of over 25 years) and need a good program to prepare lessons. I was actually MusEdit's very first customer and even though the author offered me FREE updates for life, I wanted this project to work and supported his efforts by purchasing the program a second time to show my support. I even encouraged my students to buy this and now, none of us use the program.

I feel sick writing a review like this, but when I learned that the author has put this project aside and has gone on to writing new software instead, I felt it my obligation to warn people.

One of my last projects involved arranging a song for guitar in standard music notation, first position, very simple tune. I needed to translate this notation to guitar TAB and the transformed score moved some notes from open position (near the fret, where beginner's like to play) all the way up the neck. When I attempted to fix these errors, any changes I made affected my original notation. Notes and symbols disappeared. It was quite a mess, a project I had to abandon.

I have been hoping that this program would come together; I've been using it since the original version for Windows 3.11. It does crash less often but the bugs are just impossible to work around. I must confess I had used this program for quite a few musical tasks, expecting more from the program than just simple notation or guitar TAB arrangements (I add chord names, symbols, fingering, etc.)

The program is promising, if only it were stable and bug-free. What is advertises is quite remarkable and if it worked properly, I would recommend this program over comparable programs like Finale G7 or Sibelius Guitar. But I can't do that.

Save your money and get a tried, true, tested program and avoid the grief that I encountered so often with the program.

"Lots of cool things it can do for a good price", I originally bought MusEdit to write tab for guitar.
It was easy to enter tab, and then I found this cool
thing where it will automatically make treble
notes appear each time you type a tab note. That works
the other way too, so pretty soon I could put in music
from a library book and the tab would appear. Its
easy to just have treble or tab or chords, and you can put
words anywhere you want. I could play the music back - that
is very nice. I slow it down and then I can learn to play
the piece. There are many samples and some sound really good
with four instruments playing together. It can do drum
rhythms too. There are lots of other things, like a chord
maker where you can just click dots on a grid and design
chord pictures which are saved for later. You
can push a button and the music will turn into
a picture which is easy to e-mail. The printing looks
just like a magazine. Some of the samples look amazing.
There are tons of other things this program can do, so it
is a very good deal for less than [$$$]. It's really good
to have a printed manual because of all the stuff it can do.
