Part III? When? Fans Are Waiting!!

"An alternative Gaming Experience", What made this game so awesome was the fact that it was first person, but not your typical mindless shooter. It is a game all about observation, stealth and wit. It takes patience to lurk in the shadows, watching a guard's route, waiting for him to pass you, and then knocking him on the head with your handy dandy blackjack and then pulling him into the shadows.

The levels are huge and exploring every nook and cranny is heart-pounding fun. The immersion faction is huge with this game. As another reviewer mentioned, just turn off the lights, plug the headphones in and GO! It's also a good game to play with another person as they can help you make game decisions. Warning, though, it can lead to some horrid arguments as you get a glimpse into another person's sometimes faulty logic and decision-making skills! Enough said there.

There are some drawbacks that serious gamers will be able to overcome. For instance, the graphics are a little old. The AI gets a bit predictable, the voices of the characters are goofy and annoying. The loot is like 2 polys and not very diverse. But, the hugeness of the game, and the complexity of the missions more than makes up for these minor short comings.

I still dream about this world.

"Holds up 3 years later", Man, what an incredible couple of games! Can't say enough great things about them. I reinstalled Thief 1 this week after not having played it for about 3 years, and it's still just as amazing now. "Return to the Cathedral" is a legendary level, and it very well might scare the gonads outta the ol' jewel bag when the undead guard rushes up on you.

Thief 2 is just as good and creey in a slightly more science-gone-awry way.

Both of these games succeed in creating a very specific feeling world that you will think about once the box is shut off. The level of dramatic tension they deliver is incredible, on par with a really good scary film.

"Two of the best computer games ever.", I bought these individually when they were first released. They are some of the best computer gaming times I've had. Every 6 months or so, I re-install them and play through again. On expert level. At night with the lights off. Wearing headphones to get the full effect.

The first time through, you will have dreams about this game. And when you aren't playing it, you will still look for shadows to hide in, and listen to your own footsteps.

Thief 1 was released in 1998, and Thief 2 in 2000, so the graphics are a few years old--lower res, and fewer polys than modern games (as mentioned by other reviewers) but don't let that stop you. The enjoyment and playability is equal or better than anything released since!

"The game that won me over to action-adventures", I thought nothing could be better than graphic adventures like Riddle of the Sphinx or the Myst series. I heard this game was about NOT trying to kill, so I gave it a try and within minutes I knew what I had been missing. I'm only half way through Thief I and already I'm waiting for Thief III. The game is enormous especially using Alex Fung's terrific, huge walkthru to experience the entire game.
This game makes you think. No mindless killing, in fact 'Experts' must NOT kill or they will fail the mission. I love the quiet and the solitude without worrying about something jumping out at you. Nothing is timed. No traditional puzzled to pull your hair out over. Treasures are everywhere and so are ingenious traps. The selection of arrows (water to put out torches, moss to soften footsteps, fire to explode on impact, etc.) make this game the best gaming experience I have ever had and I have played over 100 adventure games. This is the only game I have felt I wanted to write a review for.
