Others say...
"Beautiful, but..." This speaker system is truly great looking--even down to the blue light that emanates from it at night. But to my wife's and my ears, the midrange just doesn't compete with my incredible bargain Creative Labs T3000 (roughly $40 and often cheaper with rebates). Still, if you've got an iBook or iMac and care about the visuals, or if you use speakers for gaming and don't care about the timbre of vocal harmonies so much, the Creature is still very good and you can't top the look.
"Excellent sounding and great looking speakers" I found that the Creature speakers not only look great with my iMac G5, but also have amazing sound quality, certainly equal to that of any other computer speaker system and demonstratively better than most. The touch volume control on the right small speaker responds quickly and smoothly, and when used with the correct volume settings on the computer and music source, should satisfy any listener. The tone controls on the large bass speaker are convenient and functional. The system is a 5 star winner at a most attractive price. Read the operating instructions to learn how the volume control works, plug it in, and enjoy great music at any volume. You may find as I did that your computer offers different music settings for different types of music, all of which enhance the output of the speakers.
"Great design, great sound, great price" I spent almost all of my time with these speakers at the Apple Store during my first ever visit to the place!
I echo the same positive feedback that the earlier reviewers have given. This is the purest sound I have ever heard from a speaker set of this size and budget. Aesthetically, trendy looking white Creature is goes very well with other white creatures like the iMac, iBook, and iPod. An excellent choice for desktop speakers. Combine them with the iPod and you don't need any other music system in the house.
The interface is very simple and the bass range is very excellent and beats many of the bigger speaker systems. Really worth the price. Recommended even for audiophiles.
"GREY CREATURES = UGLY!!!" First off, let me say how much I love the sound of these incredible speakers. I completely reccomend buying them. However... Please, do not buy the grey Creatures. I bought them on the assumption that the "silver-ish" color would go well with my PowerBook. The pictures on the box and online made the "grey" seem much more silver than it is in reality. It is probably the ugliest, dullest gray I've see on a product in a while. The way it contrasts with my PowerBook is not aesthetically appealing whatsoever. I am very dissapointed and I feel mislead by JBL in terms of the color I thought I was buying. I mean, why have such a sweet looking trio of speakers and slap such an ugly color on it?! I do like the white color a lot. I am hopefully going to take back my grey ones and switch them out for white ones without having to pay a restocking fee to the Apple store. That probably won't happen, though, so I'll have to pay ten extra bucks for the white color I should have got in the first place.
LESSON: Buy the WHITE Creature II Speakers and you won't regret the aesthetics of your beautiful and appealing new set of noise making apparatuses.
"Superb sound and fabulous design" We got these speakers to project some decent sound from my laptop computer. My Toshiba P25 does have built-in harman/kardon speakers, but they aren't sufficient for a proper listening experience when viewing DVDs, playing CDs or streaming music from Rhapsody. The Creature speaker system is fantastic!
Top things I love about it: 1. superb sound! 2. sleek, beautiful design, including fabulous electric blue "on" indicator light emitting from the bottom 3. compact and portable (enough) 4. bass and trebel control
The Creature can't compete with big, expensive floor speakers, but for our one bedroom apartment it puts out more than enough high quality volume. I can play a CD or mp3s in the living room and hear the music with great clarity in the kitchen or bedroom.
If we want to watch a DVD in bed, we plop the computer and the Creature system all right onto the double bed with us. Everything fits comfortably. Even the subwoofer.
After purchasing the Creature, we never used the stereo anymore, so simply got rid of the stereo. More space! The whole system connects to the computer with just one cable that plugs into the headphone output. This makes it very easy to swap between our two computers.
I am delighted with our Creature purchase!

What our customer's say!
"Just OK...", I did not buy this product brand new but am fortunate not to have done so. It does have decent sound but lacks any punch if used with an iPod. I expected better than this. My $20 "Evermax" 2.1 speaker system purchased at a computer show sounds better than this.
"Power supply overheats", As far as range of sound, this is an excellent and economical system. However, the power supply is risky because it overheats. It gets soo hot that you can barely touch it. I turn it off every night because I'm afraid it might catch fire.
"Great for the price.", Very very loud-enough to make you're ears ring (thats a good sign)
Bass is very deep and the silver volume dots on one of the speakers are touch sensitive like the ipod-now thats cool.
Great great desktop speakers, and they can hook up right to your ipod. Worth the money.
"They're satisfactory for the price.", Coming from a 10 year old Aiwa set that was simply too large for my desk with an 8" woofer in each speaker, this JBL set was a nice change and a very nice gain in space.
However, they basically sound like quality laptop speakers with a subwoofer.
Like most speakers that have such small drivers, these really lack a good midrange. Well I should say you can get a decent midrange sound out of them, at the sacrifice of any clear highs. The bass is more than what you'd expect out of a 4" subwoofer, but due to its smaller size and lower wattage when you rise above half volume the bass notes start to blend together and become muddy, instead of crisper and clearer at low volumes.
Although there is good bass and clear highs, these speakers just simply don't deliver in the mids. They sound empty and hollow.
In my opinion, at this price point and comparing the wattage of these speakers compared to the competitors in this range, they would have been perfect if JBL would have made the driver an inch larger, and added a dedicated tweeter to really be able to produce a full range of sound like speakers should.
"Very cool....", I thought these speakers looked a little strange to begin with, but I then put the subwoofer under my desk and left the non-obtrusive satellite speakers next to my i-book and I think they look great. The bass is deep and the treble is clear, although I really only use for music, so I can't confirm the sound for gaming. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for an economical system that sounds terrific!
Read this reviews before You buy..."Good Speakers", I got my speakers about a month ago. Mainly I go them for the iPod. They have amazing sound quality. For speakers so small the sound is amazingly crisp and clear. The bass is good, but a little unclear when turned up to maximum power. (It takes some adjusting on the subwoofer to get the bass right.) The little lights under the speakers provide for a nice little effect. Overall I think they were a good buy. I would have given them 4 stars except for the problem that I had with them when first bought. They worked for about 2 days and then one day the speakers decided to play full-blast all the time, and I couldn't turn them down. Luckily the product was still in warranty, and I was able to get new ones. So far these new ones have been great and have no problems. "Great Looks AND Sound!", I think these are the best looking speakers out there. The coolest part may be the blue lights underneath the left and right speakers. They really do look like spaceships. The sound is fantastic, especially considering the small size of the whole system. The subwoofer is not as large and bulky as other systems in this price range and it's probably the only subwoofer you wouldn't want to hide anyway - cause it looks cool! Would have been even better if it too had blue lights. The only downside I can think of is that there's only one input jack. So you can't hook up multiple sources directly to the system. I've tried mini-phone Y adaptors but the sound becomes distorted. "JBL is the Best in Computer Audio!!", First, let me tell you something about me. I love sound...Big Clear sound. I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to sound. I have a Home Theater System in my room, and an 8 speaker sound system in my car. And, of course, JBLs for my computer. So, you can understand that I demand quality when it comes to audio. Now, I have always been a Sony person. They make incredible products. But I would have to say that JBL takes the cake in audio products. JBL does it right!!! A lot of computer speakers these days (or even cheap aftermarket speakers for that matter) give off something akin to what you would hear from a vintage 1950's radio. It's really sad. But anyone who has ever owned a pair of JBLs knows that JBL is the exception to the rule. They are very affordable and yet...Nothing short of exceptional. And durable!!! Anyway, you will NOT be disappointed at all with these speakers. No distortion, no static...Just clear, crisp sound that bounces off your walls and fills your ears. Sound that probably could rival some Home Theater systems. By the way, if you are looking for something a bit smaller, cheaper and a little more economic...Than I highly recommend a pair of JBL Pro Speakers that came with the COmpaq Presario's a few years back. Amazon doesn't carry them (I'm not sure why, maybe they are no longer available or just were a promotional item for the COmpaq/JBL merge), but you can get them on ebay for about $10-$15. I have them on an older computer and they are incredible! They won't stand up to a new HOme Theater system, but they do sound a lot like the nicer audio systems coming with these new cars. They are amplified and have incredible bass for something so small.
"Great sound and value", I listen to a lot of music on my computer and needed an upgrade of speakers. After a lot of search I though I would give these JBL's a chance. They came today and when I hooked them up I could not believe it. They are amazing. I cranked them up and my whole living room filled with crystal clear pumping music. Amazing sound from such small components. The sub also cranks out impressive bass. GREAT SPEAKER AT A GREAT PRICE!!!
"Great office system", I bought these to replace a clunky shelf-top stereo in my office, both to save space and improve the sound. I am very happy on both fronts -- the main speakers take up very little space on my desk, and the subwoofer hides on the floor. Playing Internet radio or MP3's from my laptop, they sound much better than a desktop stereo system would, even one in the $300 or $400 price range, in my opinion. They also sound better than a 5.1 $250 speaker system I have with my home computer. So, this ends up being a very inexpensive way to get reasonable quality sound in a small space. As another reviewer has noted the touch-sensitive volume control is a classy touch, and works as it should. I am strongly considering getting a second set to connect w/an iPod for a bedside music system.
