What our customer's say!
"Spy Sweeper v5.5... problems!- My solution"s"...!", I am a software tech- 1. I Disable the "!Memory Shield!", Favourites, & "!Ad Sites!" shields- they are BAD Resource Hogs (really slow surfing!)! a. Do daily COMPLETE "Custom (& enable Rootkit...!)" scans (about 6min.+- , & defrag, if slow!).
2. I had nothing but BAD problems with SSP's new v5.5... (MANY others do too!)! My solution!- I requested a download link from SSP support, for their previous "Rock Solid...!" v5.3.2.2361 (do not EVER download pgm updates, JUST auto-definitions...!)! a. Supposedly similar detection rates...?- Just not Vista ready.
ENJOY!
"didnt clear my trojan problem", My computer finally had to be wiped to restore operation and when I tried it in my laptop afterwards it became a virus that locked up my laptop until removed!!! thirty bucks down the toilet!!!
"Beware of WEBROOT software", To any interested parties - a downloaded copy of WEBROOT SPY SWEEPER has caused constant problems with my machine. I am kept running with outside business interests and don't have time to stay up to date on the latest computer issues. On Jul 22 07 I downloaded Spy Sweeper and within a few weeks began experiencing occasional lock-ups when starting my computer. These gradually increased in frequency and severity until it was necessary to restart my machine 3 or 4 times before it would run. After trying everything I could think of, I uninstalled Webroot Spy Sweeper on Sunday 9/23/07 and BINGO, no further problems.
Today I called Webroot customer service to cancel my subscription and ask for a refund and was told very curtly that no refund would be given.
(running WindowsXP; 1G ram)
"Webroot Spy Sweeper", I was shocked when someone had cracked my password for my counter strike and online bank account login. I had always been reluctant to buy any anti spy software because I thought it was a waste of my money. Boy, was I wrong, all that downloading had given me a keylogger where someone was able to access my account from GOD knows where. After this tragedy, I decided it was time to do some anti spyware research. After spending numerous hours I found webroot spyware 5.2 to be the answer. It doesn't slow my computer down like a lot of people have said, honestly, if you have an old piece of ****, its time to get a new computer and you can buy a new one for like $400 bucks these days. And if you call them, and tell them to give you a $10 dollar off because you had an coupon code that didn't work at there website, THEY GIVE IT TO YOU..wholly molly, I bought my for $19.95 =) I just download the software and enter my license file and BANG! Today as I was browsing website, I can tell you that it WORKS, i purposely went into Porno website and it blocked off all the damn popups.
"My short review", Overall, I was pretty impressed with what Webroot offered in their SpySweeper program. It had some nice features to go along with keeping spyware and ad's undercontrol (ad-blocker). The older build of the software program operated the same when you upgrade to the newest build. The program would always alert you when there was a potential risk of spyware and would constantly monitor your internet traffic for risks. One thing I didn't like about the program was the fact that is was a bit of a resource hog. I've got a decent amount of RAM in my system, but it bogged things down in a sense...My mistake though in the end, cause I also used Norton alongside it, so that was probably why, but I had to reformat one time and put SpySweeper on my system first and it still took up quite a bit of resources. To conclude, SpySweeper is a reliable program that will protect against threats of spyware and I'm sure the program will get better over the years.

"It caught the trojan horse Norton missed", My identity was stolen. I purchased this software because someone told me I may have spyware on my computer. I have Norton Anti-Virus on my computer but after I ran Spysweeper, it caught a trojan horse Norton missed. This is how they stole my identity using a key stroke copier trojan horse. If I had run this program (Spysweeper) it never would have happened. Randy T.
""2" Stars coz the product works but with limitations", First, I use both Spy Sweeper ( $$$ ) and AdAware SE Personal ( Free ). As I mentioned the product work -- it correctly identifies spyware on your computer. But so does the free version from AdAware !!.
You can run Spy Sweeper as a "shield" which is not possible with AdAware SE. But after using it for the past 3 months, Spy Sweeper has *not* raised any alerts while I am browsing on the internet. Yet, if I rescan my drive ( using Spy Sweeper ) it will find some spyware software/cookies. My question is -- why does the "shield" option not **trap** "spyware" in the first place ?
My second concerns is the amount of RAM that this "shield" option takes up -- anything from 28MB to 160MB. Not sure why this various. But the only way ( that I am aware ) to reduce memory usage is to restart Spy Sweeper.
Shields that are active in my case are ::- * Hosts file shield * IE favourites shield * IE home page shield * IE hijack shield * Memory shield * Spy installation shield * startup Shield
By the way, I am using Spy Sweeper Program Version 3.2.0 (Build 148) Using Spyware Definitions 440.

"Okay first day, but....", After discussing some of the computer issues I was having on my home pc at work, a co-worker recommended SpySweeper. She had told me she had had success with the software and it sounded great. I then went to a local computer store and asked for further opinions. Again I was directed to SpySweeper. So I thought, what the heck, three people can't be wrong. Sigh.
The software was ridiculously easy to install and I ran into zero problems doing my first "sweep". It seemed to be working wonderfully and I noticed numerous pesky adware names being removed. I rebooted my computer, jumped online, and, woo-hoo!, there were no pop-ups and the internet didn't crash once. The next day was a different story entirely.
The next morning brought fewer pop-ups, but pop-ups nonetheless. And then the internet started to crash again. Aside from those issues--which I should no longer have been having--SpySweeper became annoying in and of itself. It swept at the drop of the hat. Even though I altered the schedule and options. And there were some spyware and adware that it just wouldn't get rid of.
Overall, I was initially pleased with the software, but that has certainly waned. Now I have to go back out and find something else to help with this problem. If I could return SpySweeper I think I would be tempted to do so.
"Perfect sidekick against spyware-ridden sites", Well, I thought my Internet troubles were over getting an anti-virus program with a firewall. Guess again, because my program doesn't take care of adware or spyware. And being hit by spyware is no fun, especially as it plays havoc on surfing. Why? Because spyware can cause one's computer to slow down, making the system unstable, and making one have to reboot. It can also make one's computer prone to hijacking programs that can remotely control your computer while you surf. Scary, right? Yes, Virginia...it's not safe to surf on the Internet anymore.
Of the anti-spyware packages available, I went with Webroot's Spysweeper, as it was ranked #1 in the Top Ten anti-spyware programs, outdoing others such as Spybot and AdAware. The main feature I like is how Spysweeper not only quarantines and deletes spyware but also the traces, which if left undetected can cause any malware to be reactivated. Not to worry-as options on automatically removing spyware that consistently gets loaded on visiting a certain site is present. Anyone wanting to keep spyware is like someone with gangrene who wants it left there because of that lovely green colour. Think again, guys!
Another thing that some may consider a bit annoying, but shows that the program is paying attention is if one adds a website as a favourite. If enabled, a pop-up window at the bottom right corner pops up, alerting the user. It then tells the user, "Hey, something just got added on to your favourites. Is it something you added, or did someone else do it?' If the former, check the box to keep it. If the latter, oh dear...! Hey, at least it's paying attention, so I like this feature. Along those lines was a pesky piece of malware which persistently changed my home page. Fortunately, an option in Spysweeper allowed it to keep my home page and never change it.
Users who have Windows ME or XP will have those pesky Restore directories containing all those 1 byte temporary files, which can add an extra ten minutes in scanning. Not to worry-an option there allows it to ignore those files.
Everytime I end my surfing and run it, it also removes tracking cookies, an option I enabled. Nowadays, weeks have gone by and I haven't had a piece of spyware or adware infiltrate my system, although interestingly enough, it's my anti-virus software that's been finding adware. It's also darned user-friendly too, like that someone who's on guard whenever I'm online. Recommended by this constant surfer. The Net was never more safer than with Spysweeper.
