"Who dropped this ball?", Ok the graphics for the game are killer! no doubt about it top notch pretty cool. heres the bad..... no health meters, you cant punch anybody, (only pistol whip), your charcter is arrested way too easyily. The controls of this game really suck! and you cant adjust them to make them the way you want them.

i really cant belive they made a game look so cool have such great feautures then make playing the actual game suck!! there are movie sequences that you cant fast forward threw and they take litterly forever!!

i wish they had kept working on this game it had so much potential but it fell flat on it's face! This game take forever to play. it's extremly boring. lots of driving and stupid police chases that start for no reason.

"Getaway Action", I have three words for this game, action, action, action. A lot of weapons and quick shooting. Settings are a little dark in color and cussing is present. There is a lot of violence and even some torture. Not for the real young and sensitive.

"Should be made into a movie!!!", I bought this game used and overall I've enjoyed it. People keep comparing this game to GTA, but this game is way better. The graphics are good and I love the fact that you really are in london unlike the GTA games which is just in a made up city. This game has a really good story line. It's not all about sex or drugs. It actually has a deep meaning to what is going on in the game. I hate the fact that the video cuts are long and you have to watch it for like 2 minutes before playing the game but when you actually do play a mission it is worth the wait. In the end the game is probably the best game I have ever played. I'm waiting for some hotshot director to make this into a movie cuz it really should be.

"Innovative? Yes; Fun? NO!!!", The main thing I'd like to emphasize about this game, is how innovative it was. They actually laid down actual geographical miles of a European city; London; maybe you've heard of it.

London is one of the most complex cities in the world, and for a videogame Production Company to take the time to lay down actual geographical footage is phenomenal.

But the game "fun factor" leaves a lot to be desired. Controls are just okay to plain awful! This is one of the last games, that I can think of, that didn't take advantage of the right controller stick, to turn your 3rd person view character around to the point of view of the player. What results, is a poor shooting view, which is about 90% of the game. PROBLEM!

I give this game 2 stars, for playing, and 4 over all, for just plain over all innovation!

It's quite cheap now, on this website, so I would suggest a purchase over a rental. You will get some enjoyment out of it. The British accents are fun to listen to. And there's a mess of naughty words, so don't let your under 17 year old kids try this one.

"Not GTA, better", The Getaway, of course, has been compared to the GTA series since it came out. But the truth is, it's not even close to it. It is much more realistic, with no health meter and it doesn't tell you how much ammo you have. It is extremely realistic. It takes place in London, and the city is done amazingly, right down to the last shanty, and it's huge. It takes forever to get from one end to the other.

The game starts out with you as Mark Hammond, former member of the Collins gang. You just got out of jail, but your wife gets killed and your son gets kidnapped. You go out on a quest for revenge against Charlie Jolson, criminal mastermind and the man who stole your son. You end up doing jobs for him with the promise you'll get your son back. You have twelve missions with Mark, then you go on to....

Frank Carter. A vigilante cop, also obsessed with nicking Charlie Jolson. You have twelve missions with him too, and at the end, Frank and Mark's stories intertwine and they end up working together to rescue Mark's son and bring down Charlie

This game is awesome. It is so realistic and very worth it to buy, but I hear its not a good idea to get the second istallment, Black Monday. But the first one is great. Highly suggested


"Not GTA!", So, the price is right for this game, I do recommend it, but be careful. The whole deal with the VERY slow British cars can get annoying to those who are used to the new GTA games where just about every car goes lightning fast. The gunfighting is definately more fun than the driving, since while you're driving you're pretty helpless and can't shoot out of your car. Another thing taking away all challenge is that there is no health pickups. You will gradually heal back to full health as you sit and wait and no one comes to attack you, so you can recharge yourself and pop back around the corner for another go at the nutters. I can't recommend it to GTA fans, but to fans of amazing stories and story-telling abilities I do recommend this game, it's like participating in a movie.

"MORE OF A MOVIE THAN AN ACTION GAME.", This game is more of a movie then an action game but thats cool anyways.It is a Grand Theft Auto clone with violence,doesn`t have anything in-common with the Driver series apart from the real city the graphics are the best ive seen and you get Licenced(real) cars and buildings the storyline is great and isn`t short as you play as a former gangster-turned-strieght called Mark Hammond (for the first half of the game then you play Frank Karter).The storyline starts at 8:00a.m. in London,England and Mrs. Hammond and Alex(Marks son) walk out of a building and then Charley Jolsons girl friend YasMin and two body guards walk out to talk to her but Mrs. Hammond says the wrong thing to Yasmin and gets shot and Alex runs of but Yasmin catches him and takes him and Mark runs out to catch them and his wife dies in his arms and a civilian sees him and drops her shopping(probably the one who tells the cops that Mark killed her) but mark picks the assasins gun ratha then his one that means that his gun will be DNA tested and he will be the one blamed for the murder and then the game begins.the sound isn`t anything to be proud of apart from the gun sounds and actings.and i have to admit its fun getting arrested on this so i get Mark arrested alot unlike GTA where they just point a gun at "Fido"(GTAIII),Vercetti(GTAVC) or CJ(GTASA)

"An Okay Game, NOT Recommended for Grand Theft Auto Fans!", This game is okay. The story is about a wife who gets murdered and a son who is kidnapped. The father must get them back.

While the story-plot is strong, the game play is not. Yes, you can take any car off the street but there is nothing fun to do with the cars. In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you can take any car, but you can add modifications (hydralics, bumpers, paint jobs, etc.) and race with it. In The Getaway, you just drive around with them and that's all you can pretty much do.

Next, there are hardly an civilians to shoot and the cops chases aren't even that great. It's just some cops chasing you around.

Lastly, there are no displays on the screen. You don't know your health (and it's really unrealistic that your can recover full health by leaning on a wall), and you don't know how much ammo you have.

I'd have to say this game is okay, but compared to GTA: 3, Vice City, San Andreas, True Crimes: Streets of LA, and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, this game is worthless. Now the sequel, The Getaway: Black Monday, may have some major improvements but I'm still sticking with the GTA games, True Crimes: Streets of LA, and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.

" GTAs are the GUNK under THE GETWAY's FOOT ", The Getaway is an astonishing game for the PS2. Its combined plot, action, gameplay and recreation London in its entirety all merit it for 5 stars.

The story of the Getaway is real. It is very believable and not Hollywood-ized like the GTAs. The plot twists are unexpected yet believable. Anyone who plays the Getaway will always know the plot, understand why something is happening, and not question its believability. The story of the characters are great and the plot really is excellent, making the game impossible to put down, even when the action (rarely) becomes dull.

The action of the Getaway is beyond most action category games for PS2. It is realistic, and when shot by a shotgun at close range, you don't just fall to the ground and then stand up (GTA), you just die. Yet this is not frustrating, unlike GTA. In GTA, when one dies, the controller is thrown and swears fill the room. It is rewarding to know that you die basically as easily as your opponents do. The gunfights are beyond amazing, entailing shootouts which can't be won by charging into a room with and UZI and balsting the hell out of the bad guys (GTA anyone). Instead cover needs to be used, conservative shooting is a must so as to avoid wasting ammo, and injurys slow you down greatly, giving you limps and making charging into a room with an UZI unthinkable. 90% of the missions have these spectacular action moments.

The recreation of London, although amazing, is the only flaw with the Getaway, but a truly minor one. This flaw is frustration. There are a few missions where it is required to drive across all of London, 40 square Kilometers. And to add to this, cops and gangs constantly stop you, forcing you into many gunfights before you get to where you need to be. This however, when looking back, only adds to the games greatness. The driving in the game is amazing. Sure, you can't do 540 degree spins and drive in oncoming traffic (GTA garbage), but instead the cars handle like real cars, spinning out uncontrollably (unlike GTA where spin-outs are common driving moves) and more realistic damge, slowing the car to a halt even before it bursts into flames. The driving in GTA is uncomparable to the godliness of the Getaway's. The map of London and driving are really exemplary.

BETTER THAN GTA WITH ONLY ONE MINOR FLAW
GTA fans are probably going to say "NO" this was not helpful
