"Essential Leonard Cohen", I came to the music of Leonard Cohen rather late in life and have no regrets. I feel his poetry and music deeply moving and enjoy his rich sonorous voice. My favourites from the two discs are I'm Your Man,Every body Knows and Dance Me To The End Of Love. I heard another version of Dance Me To The End Of Love while on holidays at La Maine , Cubjac, France and it remains one of my favourite romantic songs as it brings back such happy memories.

"The Best from the Best", All the best songs from the Master. His beautiful lyrics can move me to tears or fill me with passion. His deep dark voice add to the hauntingly beautiful words. He never fails to move me.


This is the best CD for those that are curious about the intriguing Cohen.

"The Essential Leonard Cohen", The songs on this cd are classic Cohen. If you like Leonard Cohen, you will love this cd. Turn down the lights, turn the volume up, sit down and just contemplate his voice and words. An awesome poet, songwriter, singer.

"Learn Something New", I did not know who Leonard Cohen was until XM radio - then I heard a program of his music ---- he really was amazing and I love the "gruff" kind of voice - just adds to his music -- somehow even songs you know from other more well-known people sound better when he sings his own music.

"A master collection.. ", I'll admit it. Before listening to this album, I had only the slightest idea of who Leonard Cohen was - he was, to me, merely a name mentioned in a Nirvana song and, well, actually, that's it. He was a name.

I don't remember how exactly I came to own the album, or how I managed to live my life for so long without even knowing about the man, but upon first listen, I was in love - Mr. Cohen's voice is like the smooth, comforting voice of a father or grandfather trying to explain to you the secrets of life way before you can even begin to comprehend them - everything, in fact - he is the complete package - a master of his trade and this, this essential collection a master collection. Granted there are probably a few songs missing - as there are on ALL 'Essential Collection' albums, but if you are new Mr. Cohen, and you want something that'll give you the most for your buck, this album is it. A five star review has never come so easily.

"Pretty Darn Good Collection yet not perfect", First of all, I HATE how they, for the most part, put these TWO disc CDs together... it's a mess to get to one, or two, and then you're scratching them and... well, pretty darn good collection... and it starts off with Suzanne and takes you all the way through every album even four tracks from his latest "10 New Songs" and I'm greatful for that, since the song "A Thousand Kisses Deep" is one of the best songs he's done since "Everybody Knows" - in my opinion. I want my band to cover "Waiting for the Miracle" and it's up in the air right now... I imagine the beginning, slow with heavy Melvins-esque guitar riff. But, to the point, it's a great collection but where is "The Butcher" or "Avalanche" - instead we get the ridiculously sythesized "Closing Time" - the lyrics to that music amuses me which I don't think is supposed to be the point. I mean, the only reason I listen to the song THE FUTURE is because of the first verse....
Point is, is if you're a NEW COHEN FAN... go buy his FIRST "Best Of..." Collection. Then, after that, you gotta check out his stuff after and the best collection of it is RIGHT HERE, from Halleelujah to Love Itself - 19 of his best songs with his "second voice." Am I happy I bought it? HELL YEAH.

"Essential!", This collection is so beautiful. I especially love the newer songs, because I did not have them in my collection. And the older songs just simply remind me of my young days. Long live Leonard!!!
