"a good game, but not for this money"
This is a grest game if you like star trek; if you don't like it I'd rate it a 4 for you, otherwise it's a five. It's structered in between an action game and a strategy game, and it's really adictive. The best part is that you can customize you ships before you fight in the skirrmish mode. The campain mode isn' quite as fun as the skirmish, but it's stiil good.

However: For the price they're charging here, almost sixty bucks, it's a rip off, I got it for five times less. My advice is to get the game at a retail store that's having a going out of buisness sale, or a discount store of something of that occord. It's defanitely a good gam.

Pros: Customization of ships, a viriety of ships and fetures, you can even be the Borrg

Cons: When you accedently leave the battle arena, a sector in space, your ship is destroyed rather then placed back in, and mainly the price

"A decent enough entry"
A good enough game when one looks at its predecessors; however, the controls and concepts have been dumbed down almost to the point of being meaningless; in the previous three entries, the proper management of power really meant something, ECM/ECCM could make or break an engagement, shuttles (and fighters) could be dedicated to more specific tasks, and the shield arcs were more logical; here, everything is a bit too much on the "point-and-shoot" side, with way too many of the concepts of SFB abandonned in favor of simplistic gameplay. While it is nice to see a modicum of the old games principles applied to the TNG/DS9/Voyager universe, I reaally wish that the developers would have brought more of the SFB gameplay principles into the 24th century.

"Terrible"
Starfleet Command 3, without doubt, is one of the worst Star Trek games I have ever played.

I bought this game with the expectation of playing some Star Trek battles/missions with an interesting story, but what I got was a disaster.

While the game's story is interesting, nothing else is. The actual gameplay is pathetically slow and boring, and the controls are extremely awkward, which makes it difficult to perform quick maneouvers during battle. You can literally spend an hour fighting a small freighter with your ship going around in circles, trying to catch the smaller ship and only ocassionaly scoring hits. This sort of thing becomes extremely boring after a few missions.

I don't recommend this game to anyone unless you are a total Trek freak, and even then it would be an ask to finish this game. Don't waste your money on this thing.

"Too Many Bugs!"
This game is full of bugs, even after the latest patch. Gameplay is simply ruined by all of progamming flaws, such as lock-ups. Even some game objectives are dead ends. Some missions on this game are unconquerable thanks to the poor programming. [its not worth the price that i paid and is not worth considerably less]

What our customer's say!

"SFC for TNG", Interplay's SFC series arrives in the TNG era. All of the major ships from the TNG era are represented. The "scripted" campaign involves the Klingon's, Romulan's, and the Federation. In conquer mode, (I think), you can also play as the borg and go assimilating. I found this to be a fun game with realistic Trek weapons and decent graphics. Some missions are very easy, but once you get into playing and customizing your ship, you can play this game for hours and not want to stop.

"WAIT!!! Don't buy from here", Don't pay these "posers" the $100 for this $30 game. Copy and paste this URL and pay $6.95 (1 month of unlimited downloads) and get the game for free! http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/abandonware/pc/strategy_games/games_so_sy/star_trek_starfleet_command_3.html

"Watch out! Amazon is mixing reviews for all the Trek games together.", SFC3 is widely acknowledged as the best of the Trek games, though an argument could be made for Bridge Commander if you prefer a more "on the bridge" experience than a strategy game.

Unfortunately, the game's rating is being dragged down by being mixed with the reviews for many other Trek games. Amazon has them all linked for some bizarre reason.

"Better then SFC and SFC2 combined!!!!", I love this game. Now, I'v got starfleet command 1 and starfleet command 2 and I have to say that this is far better then both combined. One of the things that got me realy mad was that in starfleet command 1 and 2 you had to purchase a new ship because it had better weaponry or better shields. Well now in starfleet command 3 you don't have to worry about that. All you have to do now is buy a ship and upgrade the ships armorments, shields, and various other systems.

Another thing I like about this game is that you get to create a customized ship. You can make a ship in any configuration as you wish.

The campaign modes are also reasionably challengeing with different types of missions that have to be preformed.

Various mods can be downloaded to this game. You can download these mods on various cites, it shouldn't be to hard to find any. My personal favorite is the Generation(s) at war Mod. This mod includes ships from STARFLEET COMMAND 1 AND 2!!!!!!!!. Not only that but ships that weren't even in any SFC game or star trek series. Like the Excalibar class Challenger class, freedom class and at least 150 more ships.

With all the different new features in this game I would say that it surpasses most star trek games. If you are a true star trek fan this is a game you must buy.

"STAR TREK: STARFLEET COMMAND 3 ", Star Trek Starfleet Command 3. Could there ever be a better game? After you play this game, you will answer that question the smae way I did. No. In SFC3, you can play as Federation, Klingon, Romulan, and Borg. From the sleek Soverign class vessel (U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-E) to the massive Borg Cube. Fire a variety of weapons, including Quantum Torpedoes, Phasers, Disruptors, and Gavemetiric Torpedoes. Beam you troops over on hit-and-run raids to disable enemy systems, or to attempt the impossible: take over the entire vessel.
Create fleets of up to five vessels, and gang up on small vessels. Invade enemy territory in missions ranging from Planetary Scan, Assulting defensless stardocks, or taking a suicidal run on an enemy starbase.
Launch Probes, cloak, use an anti-cloaking scan, launch specialized shuttles, an perform eratic manuvers. Manage your sheilds to prevent enemy boarding parties from completeing their mission. Name your ship, and create ships from the shows like the U.S.S. Defiant, and visit noted locations such as Sector 00,01 (Earth), Romulus, Remus, The Borg Homeworld, and the legendary home of th klingons, Q'ronos.
Engage in 4 epic campagins, icluding for all major star empires, The United Federation of Planets, The Kligon Defense Fleet, The Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg Collective. Or, you can just ignore polotics, and go on to conquer the galaxy.
Anyway, you can count on SFC3 being the best STAR TREK game ever. It is not worth the $90.00 it's being sold for, though, so buy it at a computer game store. Good Luck Conquering the galaxy. You can e-mail me if you have any questions about the game at comderbashir@yahoo.com Jolan Tru

"What the heck happened here?", While you can see where they were trying to go with Starfleet Command 3, it doesn't cut the mustard. They tried to simplify the game and bring in people who didn't want to learn the complex command of the first two StarFleet Commands. While the idea is admirable, they've failed miserably.

Not all is lost, there are some nice touches, the new ships from the Next Generation era, and things like Warp Speed actually doing something.

Unfortunately, this isn't enough to make me ditch my SFC II.

"Wonderful Game", This game is great! The single player story line is emersive and interesting, and to play campaigns from 3 different races is fantastic. You get to play as the bad guys, the good guys and the trigger happy allies to the good guys.

The multiplayer is great as well. It uses dynaverse 3 with is like a Starship RPG (Well sort of.) It also has a skirmish setting for immediate firefights.

The only problem with this game is the lack of a patch, which means the multiplayer crashes a about 30-45% of the time. Not very good. Otherwise this game is excelent with many ships of varying design and streangths. I.E. A Warbird has different weapons and systems than a Sovereign.

"So Much Potential Unrealized", SFC3 is an improvement over its predecessors in many ways: simplified interface, better graphics, removal of most archaic Starfleet Battles rules. The best feature by far is the ability to customize your ships with different weapons, engines, armor, etc. It's interesting to note that ships actually move at different speeds, something SFC1, 2 and OP annoyingly didn't have.

The single player campaign is OK, but just OK. I've owned it for seven months now, and I have no desire to finish the single player campaign at all. In this regard, SFC3 is inferior to SFC2: Empires at War.

It is also inferior to its predecessors in that there are far fewer ships and races in this edition. So much so that the game feels incomplete. Not to mention the complete lack of missions in conquest mode (99% of the missions that exist for this game were fan created, and aren't included in the retail version. That's a real indictment on Taldren's mismanagement of this project.)

However, the game really shines in multiplayer on the Dynaverse version 3 (D3). There are some very nice, populated servers out there, the best of which, of course, are fan-administered. The top two are The Neutral Zone and Dominion Wars, and both are still very popular. You could say they are single handedly proping this incomplete game up by adding many, many new ships and missions to the game (and all free of charge. The perfect compliment to your Amazon purchase of the retail game. In fact, these mods and servers are THE reason you should buy this game and give it a chance. Get the free TNZ mod at BattleClinic.com, and the likewise free DW mod at pwfe.com/domwars. They truly save this game from the trash heap).

Of course, D3 play isn't the most sophisticated thing to say the least. You're staring at an uninteresting hexagonal map most of the time, and the winning team is mostly determined by who is willing to expend the greatest amount of player-hours turning those hexes from one color to another by successfully completing player vs. player fights and single player missions on them.

In conclusion, if you're a die hard starship combat sim fan like me, this is your game. But if you're a fan of Starfleet Battles, or only a casual gamer, your money is best spent elsewhere. Here's hoping future Star Trek starship combat sims have a different producer and developer.

"Starfleet Command 3", SFC3 is one of the best Star Trek games that I've ever played! The Conquest Campaigns aren't as good as the original game, but the story line for the regular campain is very exiting, it really pulls you into the missions. Some of the missions are hard, and some are easy, just the right balance. The controls are easy to learn, and they aren't that much different than the first Starfleet Command. One thing that I don't like is that you can't control more than one ship, but that's OK because the depth of the missions make up for that loss. Overall, this is a great game, and one of the most realistic Star Trek games that I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few.

"Finally Boldly Going...", When first Starfleet Command came to store shelves, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Then I did, only to find the game was a piece...The case was similar with the slightly improved Starfleet Command II. Starfleet Command III, however, showed me that not all the SFC games have to [be so bad]. First, the graphics are far better than the visuals in the previous two. The textures are extremely detailed and the ships look absolutely fantastic. Also, even though the graphics look great, the minimum requirements are surprisingly low (unless of course you have a CPU that is below a Pentium III and a graphics card that [is bad]. Plus, while SFC purists may not like it (which I can't understand), the interface in this game is simplified to the point where you can actually access everything easily. The interfaces of the previous two games were way too convoluted and seemed to only serve to slow down the pace of the combat; you pretty much had to go through about 50 submenus to simply reinforce a shield! Its surprising how much more enjoyable an SFC game is when you simply take out the 1 million or so menus and submenus from the interface. There is also a very eclectic collection of ships to choose from; each ship varies in speed, maneuverability, and weaponry and can by customized. While the game is very enjoyable overall, it seems to be missing the strategic challenge present in the previous two titles and the combat can actually become tedious at times. Also, while the previous games enabled players to choose from six or more races to play as, SFC III's number of races is restricted to four (the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg). Overall, if you like Star Trek and have the urge to pilot one of your favorite ships from the Star Trek: TNG universe, this game is for you.
