"Audio Technica ATR-35S" I purchased this mic to record flute since it was highly recommended by other flute players. It is quite nice especially considering the price. Good buy.
"Great quality for the price" There are only two issues I would point out with this microphone: 1) The inline on/off switch with battery. It requires that you remember to turn on the microphone before use and turn off the microphone after use. You also need to keep a spare battery on hand. 2) It is a mono plug. I use the microphone to record interviews where I'm plugging the mic directly into my camcorder. Since the camcorder can accept stereo sound, the microphone by itself only records onto the left channel. An inexpensive mono-to-stereo converter (about $2) found at any Radio Shack solves that problem.
All-in-all this is a great little microphone. It is very inconspicuous on camera, picks up sound very well and the long cord is almost overkill for face to face interviews. If your subject needs to be mobile the cord would be a big drawback. However, if your subject is seated this is a perfect cost saving mic.
"Great Mic!" Bought this mic on recommendations from Amazon. My friend who is a sound expert was impressed for the bang for the the terrific price. I film interviews...personal life stories. My friend suggested I buy 2 mics for an outstanding stero sound. Great advice! I purchased a Y-cable, stereo 3.5mm (M) to TWO MONO 3.5mm (F), 6 IN from a local Guitar Center. The maker is Live Wire, part # YMM-261. This brand has about a 2-inch leeway so it fits into my camera nicely. I bought a similar apparatus from Radio Shack. The bulky make won't fit into the camera jack.
What terrific sound, and the mics are well made. Called Audio Technica for some help/advice. The tech was so informative and helpful...impressive that he took pride and the time to be so helpful!
"Useless for outdoors..."
I have a miniature video camera w/ audio set up outside (under an overhang) for security. Was looking to improve the audio on it with this microphone, but this turned out to be worthless. Must be for speech only where you can have it clipped to your lower lip... Disappointed..
"ATR-35S not suitable for a computer sound card" Given the glowing reviews, I bought the Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone to connect it to a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card for narrations. Unfortunately, the volume level was always to low, even with the Microphone Boost +20dB on in the Creative software, which introduced some noise. Although the sound was fine when I held the mike close to my mouth, it is obviously not the purpose of a lavalier. There seems to be a mismatch (impedance or sensitivity) between the card and the microphone. I think this mike needs a mixer or mike pre-amp to boost the signal when connected to a computer sound card.

What our customer's say!"Value Buy, definitely recommend", I recently recorded a seminar in a house of worship with this - ie lots of background noise, etc, and this mic worked beautifully. to most people there might not even be a discernible difference between this and a more expensive and higher quality mic. for the price class its in it is AMAZING. i dont think u can do better for anything under 50 bucks. "Not a happy videographer", Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RG7CWDHFNLGN2 I purchased this mic back in April and didn't use it much, though I think I remember it working OK. I've had it in storage for pretty much 6 months. I recently wanted to record some video with a lavalier mic, and this is what I get. I've tried several different batteries and have attempted plugging the mic into a recorder instead of having it plugged into the camera. As you might guess, the quality doesn't get any better. I'm in the midst of scrambling to find a new mic now. Thanks for nothing Audio-Technica. "Lavalier microphone for camcorder", I purchased the Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone a few weeks ago. I used it with two different camcorders and it worked fine with both. Sound quality is excellent for such an inexpensive item. Just what I needed to improve the quality of my online video demo's. Much more professional than using the camcorder mic itself. The included power supply makes it vastly superior to mics without power. Definately worth the money. "Lav' Love", I have used this mic on shoots for my web video program. It's worked well for me, and the slightly extra length helps when doing stand-ups and shots that require movement. And- the price was certainly right! "Works as Expected", I ordered this microphone for the purpose of recording oral history stories in connection with a camcorder. Previous reviews encouraged my purchase, and in testing I'm pleased with the microphone.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Will make you look and sound more professional", I picked this mic up after being hired to shoot a small training video, and I'm glad I did. We were shooting in a small office with trains going by and the on board mic would have never cut it. I have a wireless mic, but I was worried about interference. One pined the the client it picks up voices perfect, even when she is turned away from the camera. Just make sure to turn the mic on! I'll be picking up another for doing multi subject interview very soon.
"Decent but not great", I bought this to use for a series of video interviews but found it to fall far below my expectations. I have been an avid Audio-Technica user for years and love their pro microphones. I was hoping this would be similar in quality but my results were mixed.
First of all, the sound quality from the microphone itself is fantastic for the price. It is clear and crisp without being too bright. It sounds far better than I expected for a microphone of this price.
However, the output level of it is very low and makes it pretty much worthless. I tried to use it four different ways and found only one of them to be usable, though it still sounded bad.
The first way was plugged directly into a camcorder. It sounded great for about a minute or two but then the sound would fade out and for the rest of the recording, there was nothing but silence. I attribute this more to the camcorder and not the mic since I have had other weird sound issues with other external sources on that camera.
The second way was on a different camera. That camera has some sort of automatic gain control that boosted the mic up so loud that it was actually distorted the sound on the loud parts while bringing up the noise floor of the whole thing to about -18dbfs. Obviously, this wasn't working the way I wanted it to.
I then plugged it into the mic jack on my laptop and recorded the sound straight into the computer. This was the only useful way that I found it would work but, because of the low output level, there was a lot of noise in the recording when boosting it to a normal level. The background noise using this method came out to be around -26dbfs. Though still pretty poor sounding, this would be usable.
The fourth way I tried it was my connecting it to an XLR adapter and plugging it into a pro mic preamp. Again, the output was far too low and I got as much noise as I did usable signal.
In summary, if you have a camera that will match to the output level of this mic, you will get good sound. However, I wouldn't hold out much hope that many cameras will meet that expectation. Of course, at less than $20, you can probably afford to give it a shot. I am giving it three stars mainly for the sound quality and the chance that I may eventually find a way to use it effectively.
"works well", As the old Volkswagwn ad used to say 'it goes forward, it goes backward, it turns in circles. What else do you want?' It does what it claims to do, and it does it well. 'nuff said?
"Its okay", I guess you get what you pay for. I am picking up background noise with the video camera
"May not get the job done. ", Even for the price this mic may not be worth it. I tried it out on a short video and connected it to a Sony A1U. The mic could barely pick up anything. Nothing could be done to enhance it during shooting except for practically yelling (this is from a collar distance). In editing you can boost the audio levels but the voice pickup is so low that it contends with any other noise it picks up (from batteries or lights or any electronics).
