"A Standard-Setting Game"
With a game like this, it's easy to see how much expectation there was for the PSP. Killer graphics (even by today's standards), great sound (if you like the techno beats from the PS version), great, responsive gameplay and strategy all wrapped up in a tiny silver disc! It even has online features and playing with friends is a blast! That most PSP games are pathetic ports of PS1 games and crappy movie adaptations is disappointing in the face of games like this. It's almost like Sony said, "OK guys, HERE'S how you make a PSP game," and then the developers promptly ignored them!!!

First off, the graphics are gorgeous. Futuristic and smooth. The music is appropriate and very techno. The controls are crisp and mastering the airbrake system on each racer is the key to victory...since hamfisted handling WILL result in eating wall and losing races. There is a certain strategy to hitting boost points and picking up weapons for use against others or for a quick energy boost. You can't just mash the button and ride a rail all the way to the finish line; you have to be involved and jink/dodge/boost/draft/ram your way in!

I got this game used for $9.99 and it's more fun than the new crop of PSP games coming out. I highly recommend it; even if you get frustrated racing against others, you can do time trials or free racing as a quick diversion and play against yourself.

Can't go wrong here. AWESOME game. WHERE'S WIPEOUT 2?

"Fast n' fun"
I dig the Wipeout games, they're about the only racers I bother to play anymore. This one is no exception. The play control, once you get used to being on a PSP, is pretty great, the graphics are amazing (I couldn't believe I was playing a portable system @ first). There are not as many levels as there could be, but some of the levels are the most fun I have encountered in any racer outside of the arcade. The only complaint I have, is that there does not appear to be an option to upgrade your ships. To me that was one of the best features of the Wipeout series, adding even more replay value. Then again I have not yet beaten the game entirely, and perhaps it is an option I have not unlocked yet. Whatever the case, the game goes for pretty cheap (I paid $10) and is well worth the money by my standards. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fast paced games who owns a PSP.

"Boring but not bad visually"
Very suprised at the graphics but the racing it self is really boring, turn left or right, pretty much all there is too it. Should have spent a little more time making it more interesting.

"GOOD "
This is realy a good game....and ti looks great on the PSP
is much better game than the nintendo 64 game

"Wipeout Pure"
This is probaly the best game I've played on the PSP. The graphics, relatively speaking, are very good. The music is GREAT. It comes packed with some of the classic races along with new ones. It really puts your skill to the test every time you play a new level of difficulty and it almost never gets boring. What sets this game aside from other racing games is that you have a variety of weapons and power-ups which are, if you know how to use them, a great help to winning races and it adds lots of fun. Overall this game is great, GET IT.

What our customer's say!

"Cool game", The game is pretty cool. It's fun to play if you like racing games. Got a real good deal on it.

"ANOTHER GREAT REASON TO OWN A PSP ", I have CRISIS CORE, CHAINS OF OLYMPUS, FORCE UNLEASHED, and now WIPEOUT PURE.

I really didn't think much why I wanted a PSP over the Nintendo DS. After getting WIPEOUT PURE, my reason for owning the PSP is justified.

If you like racing with a kick and more than just average racing WIPEOUT PURE is your answer. And do not forget the awesome soundtrack. The music by itself keeps me playing it.

Even after playing CHAINS OF OLYMPUS, it still amazes me that WIPEOUT PURE is this good.

"No Fun ", This game is no fun because of everything in it!The races are boring, the music is weird, and you do the same thing in every race...No creativity in it. I recommend you get a different racing game like Need for Speed(any of them are good) or Burnout(any of them also). Those are some excellent racing games. ;)

"Almost perfect! 9.5/10", I've played a couple of the previous versions of WipeOut and have always been impressed by this series, but the latest version for PSP is exceptional!

The handling of the car is terrific; you can use the D-pad or analog stick for subtle taps, and the shoulder triggers work airbrakes for harder, tighter steering.

The graphics look beautiful, almost jewel-like, and the selection of music works well with this face-paced game.

You know a racing game is great when you find yourself leaning your body left and right as you swoop through the curves.

The only caveat I've found is that apparently there are online downloads (extra courses, cars, etc.) available at the developer's web-site, but when I try on numerous occasions to download it times out. I suspect it's because the downloads are only available to certain countries, and my country is not one.

All in all, I rate WipeOut Pure a 9.5 out of 10. Fantastic!

"pure fun!", This game is great. Awesome graphics, sound, gameplay, and controls. Great options for customizing your race profile and keeping track of all your times on different tracks. Perfect for a handheld like the PSP.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Awesome!", I played the first Wipeout that ever came on on the PS systems, I loved it then. I bought my PSP only about a week ago and I was surprised and excited to see Wipeout Pure, and instantly bought it without hesitation. It's pretty much the only game I play at the moment. The ability to download new tracks from online straight to the PSP is great. If you like racing games, better, futuristic racing games, this is a must buy. I only wish they'd come out with JetMoto for PSP.

"WipEout: Pure", Wipeout Pure was a launch title for the PSP, but I didn't play it until just recently. This game is really unique and really fun. Here is my review.

Graphics: 9/10. The graphics really are pretty cool. The track design is nice, the explosions from the items look really sweet, but in a way, some tracks after awhile seem to look similar.

Sound: 8.5/10. Interesting music plays when you are racing, and it's hard to desribe; it's pretty cool though. The racers sound cool, and the weapons do too.

Control: 9/10. Only the skilled can play this game. It may be simple, but you have to use L and R triggers at the right time to do the turns effectively. This game takes practice to beat track times and not hit the walls.

Fun: 8.5/10. As far as I know so far, there are only 8 tracks, and quite a few racers to pick from, but overall, this game could last awhile. There are downloadable features on Infrastructure play, but not many people play this game online. This game is definitely worth a rental, but I really don't think you should take your money out and buy it. It's an interesting game, and a fun one, but the length leaves something to be desired.

8.4/10

"Finally a game I can get into!", I bought Wipeout Pure a few days back. Probably the best game I've seen in awhile (including consoles, folks). The graphics and music are perfectly used on the PSP. As for the gameplay itself, it's challenging, but still fun enough that you won't get frustrated. Think Gran Turismo with a higher learning curve basically. I love this game and if you happened to love the original Wipeout games or even the Jet Moto games (faves of mine) then you'll probably love Wipeout Pure. Just be willing to give the racing some time. Try some time trials and whatnot on the tracks to get accustomed to them.

"Not what I was expecting...", I'm sure most of us here had the original version for the PS1. 'Pure' lacks many things including actual control of your ship.

I've had the game for less than a week and maybe 3 playing hours and I already want to take it back. The only thing that seems to make the control better is to keep it in first-person view.

Don't run away yet and start dogging me on this. To me, it's just not living up to it's hype as "a must have".

"purE plEasurE", I bought a game in the Wipeout series for the PSX years ago. Its sense of speed was great, but it was too difficult for me (casual gamer) and I couldn't really get into it. Based on the reviews I read of this version, and since it was a gift and I had nothing much to lose, I thought I'd give it a shot.

Wow. I'm very happy with my choice. This game is to the PSP what a flashy DVD is to a home theatre: if you want to show off the hardware, the brilliant graphics and soundtrack, this is the game to get.

Besides that, it's wicked. It's a blast to play. They've managed to capture and convey a sense of blistering speed phenomenally. Aesthetically, it's a joy. The menus are slick and the in-game visuals are gorgeous.

So.. is it perfect? Err.. not quite. A wee note to casual gamers: While the game is easy to pick up and start playing, it's difficult to master. The challenge is a welcome one, but can get frustrating because the difference in difficulty between the first set of courses and the second is so great.

I know that only so much licensed music can be stuffed onto the little UMD, but still, the soundtrack (is brilliant but) gets kind of repetitive. Variety in tracks is lacking a little as well. It's a bit of a disappointment when one learns that in order to progress, one must be victorious in races that one has already.. err.. won, just at a higher level of difficulty. Myeh. Finally, unlockable goodies are rather anticlimactic. One gets nothing for a bronze or silver medal (well, except unlocking the next course/track to be raced) and upon winning gold, one unlocks... oh my goodness, artwork in the gallery! Double myeh.

In spite of the few shortcomings and nitpicks, wipEout purE is a worthwhile investment if you own a PSP and like racing games. I haven't spoken about the online racing aspect of the game because I've not had the opportunity to try it yet. No doubt that will greatly increase its replay value.

Finally, (free) downloadable extras from the developer add immense value to this purchase. The content can expire at any time, so be sure to grab it while you can. :)
