"Great game, but not normal Yu-gi-oh"
This game is a lot of fun. I've played it many times all the way through using different starter decks. You just have to put in an hour or two to get past the introduction and get into the game play. If you expect this to be like the Yu-gi-oh card game, you'll be upset. But if you pretend this is a brand new strategy game that just happens to have Dark Magician, then it will be a lot of fun.

Warning - because the rules are complicated at first, younger kids will get frustrated easily. My little brother and sister (ages 7 and 5) have NO desire to play this game. But I play it any chance I can - it's fun having a game where strategy can make up for a weak deck!!!

"Hmm playing by the rules right? WRONG!"
Ok this game is preety fun and the graphics are the best ive seen compared to forbiddon memories I use cheats casue the cards you start off with are weak when you go on tutorial the cards the tutorial shows you are RARE!!! but you can,t actually play these cards its a shame really casue the guys danm deck leader is dark magician and the enemys deck leader BLUE EYES WHUTE DRAGON the first tutorial basically shows you a celtic gaurdian killing a baby dragon over and over and over......snoresvile but the fusion tutorial is preety cool casue it shows you red eyes black dragon and summoned skull fuseing into black skull dragon the only guy ive atually killed is rex raptor and teia rex is hard but thanks to my cheat that got me aqua dragon I hit his deck leader enough times to wipe him out.In conclusion I give this game a 7/10

"Well well well..."
Ok so this Yu-Gi-Oh! game is the sequal belive it or not to Forbidden Memeroies on PSOne. This is based on the War of The Roses which truly happened in England but its not whose knights are better its the cards. At the begging you get a message of whats going on and then you see Simon from Forbiden Memroies which please dont laugh at the poor guys DRESS! Make things short you make your name chose your deck chose your house ( Lancaster you get it fun and York is too easy) Then BLABLABLABLA ok you duel and make the world happy the End.O yeah i forgot to tell you about the 1 hour turitorial which you do nothing in but press the X button (shorter to read the manual) So bring a pillow and exercise your finger in this.
Now that i finshed that i will tell you about the game. Its fun is you like strategy games so pleas dont play this game if you are mentaly dumb, get seziures or like games where all you do is shoot shoot shoot the other aliens butt off of earth. The battles are fun to look at but not fun if you have a your Kuribohs getten kicked. well its fun. I got to go my parents are here. Till we play agin

"In ancient England, one boy unleashed the power... its time to duel!"
First of all, this is odd in the Yu-Gi-Oh! style, because it is set in VII century England in the reign of Henry VIII. Yep. Yami isn't a pharoah, he's Henry VIII! But the gameplay is reasonably fun, you don't use a deck - you use monsters in a kind of 3D board game. It requires strategy and intense thinking to overwhelm your opponents with your incredible monster army. Don't kid yourself, all the old faves are here - Dark Magician, Blue Eyes White Dragon etc - plus you get three incredible promo cards - the three magnet warriors that Yugi has in his deck in the Battle City cartoon! I reckon you should really play this because I think its amazing and addictive.

"My Favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! Game"
This game might not appeal to everybody, but it did to me. Although it has a different dueling format, more like a board game like Risk or Stratego, it has excellent graphics, a great plot line, and still an interesting dueling experience. The battle scenes are unique seeing as each monster has a different attack sequence, unlike the normal card games where they just make a slash through the card to signify who won, they actually have battles and the correct background scenery. The beginning is actually a bit interesting despite what some say, you meet Simon in Stone Henge and he tells you about the war, then Seto comes along and is nice to you (gasp!), then you choose your side. The first person you duel is REALLY bad, so they are good practice anyway. If you want the traditional card game, then go play Eternal Duelist Soul, but if you want a fun-plotted, excellent graphic, and all and all fun game, play this.

"Not what most people are expecting", First of all, ignore the backstory. This game could very easily have been set at any point in history; aside from inspiring the classical background music, the setting has as much influence on gameplay as in any Yu-Gi-Oh game: nil.

Duelists of the Roses is a cross between Duel Monsters, Dungeon Dice Monsters and shogi (not chess). Duels are fought on a 7x7 board; you have a Deck Leader that represents your encampment, and from there summon monsters from your hand to the board to fight for you. Monsters move around in different ways and the boards and comprised of varied (and mutable) terrain, so there is a great deal of maneuvering to lure your opponents onto ground that will favor you.

Aside from the fusion mechanic, which combines specific weak monsters to make stronger ones and requires experimentation and taking notes, the game is remarkably simple and -- provided you have the manual or the strategy guide -- easy to learn. (Do NOT attempt to play it without either. The in-game tutorial is terrible.)

Overall the game is fun, although very hard at first ... for the most part I see this as being a two-player game, with the NPC opponents as a means of training. (Once you have a decent deck you can stomp the AI in any match.) I'd recommend it more to wargamers and strategy gamers than Yu-Gi-Oh fans, though. Really, it's far more fun against an opponent who can actually think, and I don't believe there is any online play function.

"...Well it deserves some recognition", Before you say anything I am not a Yu-Gi-Oh card freak (sorry fan) and my younger brother bought this for one of my birthdays.

This game does have some historical content (war of the roses) and tries very hard to make you think that you have free will by letting you choose at the beginning whether you can be good or evil (With Kaiba or Yugi.)

That aside though, the rules are different to regular duelling. It involves a grid of sqaures where each card is moved like a piece on a chess board and you have to defend your king known as the leader of your deck. I'm used to complex rules in games and once you get to grips with the rules this can be quite a strategic game with advantages being affected by the terrain, monster affects and trap cards.

Yu-Gi-Oh nuts will love this...if you're not though you'll get bored in the end. But then again isn't that the case with everything?

"rose duelist", its pretty good if you cheat in it according to my son. he looked passwords but he still thinks its hard!!! he also says it takes forever for him to rank up!!! the enemy has extremely good deck leader abilities lke lp recovery. Its only fun if you are very experianced (and cheat alot). Always rent this first
ps if you want the best deck type in for the name jeff, you get kaiser dragon 2100 atak as strongest with sky dragon 1900 attack

"listen people heres some tips from a pro at the game", alright people heres how it is this game ..........rules espically if you pick the white rose thats where the best beat is and its actually easier to win from seriously..........also if you wanna get a really good deck heres how you do it its truely based off of your name.....so fiddle around till you find a deck master who calls to you anyways if you pick the red rose side believe me its like fighting in titan mode of god of war........which is rather difficult.......anyways this game is total stratgy and look some tips cheat alil its okay seriously you can beat the game the straight way but if you wanna do that i'd say pick the white rose side ........its way easier because all the enemies are weak compared to the white roses side.....anyways it'll allow you to prepare for the final bout being as its possible to obtain the blues white dragon card and replicas of it.....another thing is you gotta build your deck right and heres how just get a bunch of strong cards cuz this is totally different from the actually game though be advised to have a couple of magic cards with some good abilities .......the only bad part is in the begining the game totally crushes you if you pick the red rose side and i know i've said this like 5 times but thats really the only way to really lose anyways the red rose side sucks cuz of the beat they give you its really lame seriously but i enjoy the white roses one plus who wants to help people who can't help themselves?.........really though just look online for the card codes and you'll really be able to enjoy the game cuz it actually takes awhile to build a really powerful deck........

"jeff review", this game was very fun and very uniqe in short its a must buy

"Don't even think of buying it", This game is hard man. I have to always use cheats in one of my
progamers magazene. I also have trouble figuring out how the game works. You can't even actavate a trap or magic card without seeing the lame tutoral 8 times. It gives Yugiho a very bad name. Also a waste of money.

"Incredibly boring", This game sucks! I played it with my dad about 2 years ago and we had to sit through the flippin tutorial for like 5 hours!!! We quit after a half an hour and we never played it again. The main problems are:
1. It's nothing like yugioh
2. You have to sit through the tutorial for 48 hours
3. The controls don't make any sense
4. It's more like dungeon dice monsters
Don't buy this at all

"not really what i had in mind...", I bought this game when I first started getting into YGO. BIG MISTAKE!!!! First of all, the DOTR is really a bad game, it's really annoying and super frustrating for a novice like I was, before I learned how to play the real TCG. The only things I had learned about the TCG (at the time when I bought this game) was through the American Dub show, and that has its flaws. And knowing that stuff gave me a very light sense of how to play.
=Deck Leader Concept= Not the best idea ever, becuase you can have an adequate deck leader, but if your opponent can get to it fast with a totally random kick-[...] monster before you can put up a decent defense, you lose and it's over...and you have to start the duel all over again...
=Overall Scenario= The entire thing is all set in England or France or wherever, but the scenario is really lame and stupid. In the AD show, the entire scenario is almost just as dumb, but you don't have to sit through an entire hour-long segment of pressing X and hoping it ends soon. I think that setting the game in Egypt would be better suited (which has already been done...in Forbidden Memories...I think...I really don't know, I'm just guessing) but Konami, or whoever decided to put Yugi and Kaiba and everyone alse in England and make them threaten you with a duel or its off with your head, was really whacked. If you choose Kaiba's side, your first duel is with Tea, and she's all ticked off cuz you joined the "Dark Side", so she threatens to avenge "Prince Yugi" for your evil act of virtual betrayal. Also, the way Yugi and Kaiba introduce themselves is so lame..."My name is Henry-something but you can just call me Yugi"--how RANDOMLY INSANE is that?!?!?!
The graphics aren't that great, and the "battle footage" is most annoying (I skipped it every time). I really don't play this anymore, just becuase it's no fun.
So, this game isnt really worth buying, so do yourself a favor and dont buy it...unless you're a master at normal duel monsters and you like to challenge yourself...unlike me.
If you want a substitute, buy Power of Chaos: Yugi the Destiny, Joey the Passion, or Kaiba the Revenge...these are a lot of fun and so much better to help you learn how to play the normal TCG if you're just starting out...
Hope this was helpful...

"Yu-Gi-Oh! in England", Let me start by saying: This is a very good game! It is a bit unconventional
since it changes some of the traditional ideas behind Yu-Gi-Oh! but overall it
does follow the basic rules. The graphics are not very special, but it is still
nice and fits the game well. You can opt to turn off the 3D combat if it starts
to bore you.

Because it is a bit different, many people don't want to take the effort to
learn to play the game so I decided to write a bit more informative review and
small primer that explains a bit about the game so you could learn more about
it. You might like it... or perhaps you won't. In either case I think it is worth
a look... ^_^ BTW, some of the rule differences are explained by the old English
setting, saying that these parts of the original game were lost by modern times.

So what is different? Cards are played on a board that has squares of different
terrain. The terrain affects your mosnters. For example Sea type terrain adds 500
points to Water based monsters like Fish, Sea Serpent, Aqua, Thunder while it will
substract 500 from Machine and Pyro type monsters. There are lots of other types of
terrain like Wasteland (Zombies and Dinos love it ;) Forest, Mountain and even a
few special ones like Toon, Crush, and Labyrinth. You'll learn about them as you play.
Cards are placed on this board and each card can move or perhaps attack once on your
own turn. Cards can be triggered or otherwise activated based on what your opponent
decides to do.

Life Points (LPs) are also handled a bit differently. Instead of the in match
going after the player's own LPs, you have a special card in play called the Deck
Leader. Your Deck Leader is always placed on the board at the beginning of the duel.
It is automatically face up and visible to your opponent. It can be moved around
just like any other card, but it CAN NOT attack your enemy. Your own LPs are tied
to your deck leader. Successful direct attacks against your deck leader will deplete
your LPs. As you place more cards on the field (the board) from your hand you use
those cards to protect your Deck Leader and to attack the enemy.

Many cards can be combined (fused) to either power them up or create different,
usually more powerful creatures. There are over 800 cards so there are tons of neat
combinations.

In the beginning it may be more difficult since your starting deck of 40 cards
is kind of random based on which deck leader you choose. One strategy that may make
it easier to get started is to pick a deck leader that is centered toward a specific
element like Water (Aqua) and then hope that you will have magic cards or monsters
that can transform terrain. It is a very powerful way of turining the tides on your
favor. Monsters that transform terrain on a card flip are especially useful since
your enemy may be attacking you confidently with a possible terrain advantage on
their own turf, just to find out that once they attack your unknown monster they
have lost that advantage, and it may even be unfavorable to them, which means that
now they are 500 or 1000 points down, while you are suddenly up by 500 points! ^_^

Play around a bit and see what you think... The game has quite a few nice ideas
and lots of variety so it can be tons of fun once you get the hang of it. Enjoy!

"yugioh duelists of the roses", i think this game is sweet. you can build your deck like a pro. i was very suprised by how good this game was. GREAT BUY!!!!!11
