Others say..."Playing with a keyboard is very hard...."I rate the game 4 stars, because playing with a keyboard is hard, and unless you buy a game pad, like the ones connected to the game consoles, and attach it to your computer, which will cost extra money. If you get used to playing with the keyboard, which I did a day after i bought the game, you will be able to play very good. Anyway, overall playing the game is fun. NBA Live offers new tracks from famous rappers like Snoop Dogg and Fabolous. You can choose from all of the NBA teams or play All Star games, like the 1990, 1991, and 1992 ones. You can create your own player and trade players on the team. Pros- Coolest basketball game ever You can draft players with scouting staff, as they call it. Only takes up 300 mb Cons- Pay extra for a game pad, which works better They come out with a new one every year After all the cons, NBALive2003 is the best NBA game on a pc you can play. So go ahead and buy one while it is cheap! Can't wait for the 2004 version with the drafted players.
"EA turns Live into an Arcade game like NBA Jam" I bought this game with high expectations and was very disappointed. i was expecting a game that resembled real basketball in some way. Instead i got a game where you can average a triple-double rather easily and lead the league in almost every category. NBA Live is not a very accurate portrayal of the real NBA, instead it's just a dunkfest where the ratings are some-what irrelevant (not to mention very unaccurate). The game requires almost no skill, the first time i played it i won by 25 points and i was the magic and playing against the celtics. Another problem with the game is that good players almost never miss and bad players miss way too little. Instead of shooting around the 40-50% range like in real life, paul pierce can shoot 70% from the 3 point arc. Even though certain people can drain every shot, the computer can block every shot for you. You really don't need to switch to on-ball defender to play good defense, instead you can let the computer accumlate 3 or 4 blocks on the same play and maybe get a steal. Then all you do is pass it to the wing man, make a move or another pass, and you've got an easy dunk. This game is very unaccurate when the user is on offense as well. There are games that i've played where every time down the floor i'll post up Kevin Garnett and backdown the defender til' we're under the basket and i'll dunk on him. The only defense the computer has to this is the random steal out of nowhere. The Franchise mode in this game is very weak. My friend enjoys this arcadish and unrealistic feel and he played a whole season with the Timberwolves franchise and he ended up 74-8 while Kevin Garnett average 45 points, 19 rebounds, 12 blocks, 8 assists, and 4 steals per game. Even worse, he did not improve his rating even one point. Needless to say, after that my friend stopped playing franchises and now only plays seasons. Overall, this is the only basketball game available for PC, but it does not deserve to be as popular as it is. The graphics are reasonable, but the rest of the game is complete trash, gameplay is somewhat rough and the moves aren't linked together very well. It gets repetitive and boring with the same dunk animations and is very unrealistic, way too arcade stylish. I would not recommend wasting your money on this game unless you enjoy arcade games where winning is very easy
"Fun, But where's the custom teams?!!!" NBA Live 2003 is definitely the best basketball simulation that I've played. The graphics are top-notch, with players that are very much like their real-life counterparts. However, one of my favorite features from the 2002 version, custom teams, is missing! Being able to pick any players you want and put them on a team of your choice was great! Why, EA Sports, did you get rid of it? Hopefully, custom teams, plus dunking and 3 point contests, will be in 2004 and make it a 5-star game.

"THERE'S NOTHING BETTER THAN THIS GAME!" From the minute I got this game I just couldn't stop playing it. The graphics are great, the sound is awsome and the gameplay is outstanding. The question is who wouldn't want to play this game?!

"For Kids or Not?", Surprisingly my 4 year olds can play this game and do pretty well. This is of coarse a blessing and a curse. What's even more interesting is that they can even pull off some dazzling moves and dunks in the process. While the controls for NBA Street would be impossible to pull anything fancy off for them, this game lets them shoot, pass and dunk with just two buttons. NBA 2003 is one of the most arcadey SIM games to come out in some time. If you like to make most of your jump shots and make a regulation lay up into a dunkaholics dream simply by being near the hoop, this game is for you. The ugly: it's simple offensive minded basketball. Defense clearly is not the name of this game. While it is incredibly fun to block shots in other games, the pacing is so fast with this game that you forget there is ever a need to have defense to make a game feel fun.
Bottom line: Is it fun? The most fun basketball sim. Will I keep it? Yes. Is it for kids? If your kids need a hoops game get this one. If you want a more realistic version of the popular street games with picks and rebounds and such, get this one. If you want complete all out control of your players every move and accurate shot percentage look elsewhere.
"In short.", Very good game from all aspects except for few non major ones. It is not very realistic so we can't really call it a simulation. What annoys me the most is those impossible scoring runs by the computer. During such stretches the computer will always steal the ball from you, and make impossible shots in succession at the other end. Thus, at higher levels of difficulty, no matter how big of a lead you might have the computer will make a run and catch up. Frequent dunks do not bother me. I like that actually, but what I don't like is easy shot blocking. Every player can average 5 or 6 blocked shots per game. There is a bug regarding the player trade - you cannot initiate it. You can only choose to accept or reject CPU initiated trades. Great feature of the game is option to create and customize your own character. Every basketball fan dreams of playing in the NBA. I recommend playing the Franchise Mode over a long period of time, and not too frequently. Players evolve from season to season. Some players' skills are improved at the start of a new season, while others are deteriorated. I am in my third season with Houston Rockets now. My legs are a bit weaker, and my dunks are not that spectacular any more.
"good bball game", the game is filled with excitement throughout. the plays are good and you can play with yao ming. the bad thing is the speed of which the game goes. the game goes way to fast for real life. Also your teammates aren't that useful. they don't guard. the game is only fun if you are playing on the hardest level. One of the good games around.
"Fun game, but not very realistic", NBA Live 2003 is very fun... at the beginning. It is basically a dunkfest. All you have to do is cross over your opponent and do a mind boggling dunk. Sounds fun? Not if you do it 15 billion times. The graphics are great, definitely the best out of all the Live titles. The online play is awesome. It is fun chatting with people and taking them on. The franchise mode is okay, but it gets kind of boring. It is an okay game overall and I recommend buying it because this is only basketball game for PC. By the way, the soundtrack is horrible.
"Fun in The beginning", Well as many people did I absoultley loved this game when i first got it and then..well... it got boring after playing for some time and I found myself able to beat any team on any level. This game Nba Live 2003 was not very challegning and I recommend you buy MVp baseball 2003 or Madden 2004 for they will make you happier than Nba Live 2003.

Read this reviews before You buy..."Awful product from the premier sports game makers", I cannot believe that this game is so awful, even after EA Sports decided to scrap the 2002 version. I had been a huge fan of EA Sports games because of their "close to reality" gameplay. Live 2003 is nothing but another version of NBA 2K3... the king of arcade games. I enjoy the fun aspect of the game, but not to where FG% is over 80% constantly. The AI is so awful and you can't adjust it like in Madden 2003 (can't the developers share some secrets?). The graphics is awesome, the soundtrack is platinum-quality. But too bad I can't even play 8-minute quarter without scoring less than 100 points and shooting over 80%. RIDICULOUS!! "Unhappy User", I could not believe that EA did not add a save function that allowed users to save during a game. Unless you intend on playing an entire game, everything will be lost. After realizing this, I returned the product for a full refund? "Live is Good, not Great", NBA Live 2000 was the best basketball game ever made for PC. Live 2001 was a total disappointment, and Live 2002 didn't even come out for PC. This game has many pros and cons. Pros: The graphics are awesome. The players actually look like themselves. They even have their armbands in the right places. The gameplay is smooth and not choppy. The franchise mode is great, as usual. You can keep track of the deals that different teams make, you can see the MVP candidates for that year, and you can trade, sign, or release players. They have a yearly NBA Draft where they make up different rookies and tell you their strengths and weaknesses. I am also glad that you can switch your controlled team during the off season. I started controlling the Lakers, but they dropped to the bottom of the league after Shaq retired, so I switched my team. I love the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's all-star teams. Except, where is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the 80's all-stars? The cut scenes are not realistic, but they are very funny. I love it when someone on the bench sits in the coach's chair, and the coach get's mad at him. Cons: If you play a 12 minute game, it is rather easy to get up to 200 points. 5 or 6 minute games will get you 80-115 points. It's just a big dunkfest. All you have to do is spin until you reach the free throw line, and dunk it from there. The blocks and steals are crazy. Steve Nash is the leading blocker on my team. Shaq gets the most steals. The AI is horrible. The defenders do the dumbest things, and your teammates don't play defense at all. Overall, this is a good game to get.
"I really liked this game", I thought this game was really fun; for a while. It got a little boring after a while. One thing I didn't like about NBA Live 2003 was it didn't have some of the really cool featrues of NBA 2000. One good thing about this game is that it is very realitstic. As a huge NBA fan and a basketball player, I think would have a pretty good idea. The moves in this game a fantastic. That is one thing that I love about this game. I can make myself(in the create a player screen) and emulate my own crossovers and spins. I consider myself a pretty good basketball player averaging around 25 a game, so I think this game probably better for people who like basketball or are interested in basketball.
"NBA Live? Try NBA Jam!", Where to begin with this dismal attempt at a basketball game. It is possibly one of the most frustrating game I have ever played. Unless EA Sports addresses some serious gameplay issues with a patch, there is no point in buying this game. Here are some reasons as to why: 1. Unrealistic scores: If you play a 12-minute quarter, forget it. The score is going to come out in the 200's. Its just pathetic. Say you choose to go 5 or 6 minutes per quarter - well maybe then can you keep it in the lower 100's, however, your rebounding, minutes per game, and assists will suffer. 2. Unrealistic stats: Okay, so Kobe Bryant can score with two guys double-teaming him and with two hands in his face in real life. But Steve Smith? Lindsey Hunter? C'mon! When you have great defense on a guy, he shouldn't be able to hit all of his shots. The computer seems to hit about 50-80% of their shots on any given night. Its just frustrating. You play tight defense and they still score on you with ANYONE! The last game I played, Steve Smith hit five 3's in a row with a double team of Bonzi Wells and Kevin Garnett. What the heck? And don't get me started with the turn-around-fade-away 3's while there is still 15 seconds left on the shot clock that the computer tends to pull off. 3. Unrealistic plays: So of course a guy as tall as Tim Duncan or Theo Ratlif can stuff a guy like Kevin Garnett in real life because of the size advantages, but Damon Stoudamire? Since when can a 6-1 guy stuff a 6-11 guy?? Its just ridiculous the amount of blocked shots you can get in one game. My starting PG is Stephon Marbury and he's averaging 3 blocked shots per game! 4. Horrible computer AI: Or should I say what computer AI? The computer never seems to take time off the clock. Five seconds into the sequence they take a three (which they will usually make) or they drive the ball and throw up a wild shot (that goes in!) Also, your teammates are about as smart a bottle of ketchup. When you get your shot blocked, they just stand there and watch as the ball gets picked up by the opposing player. When you poke the ball loose from the guy you're covering, they just stand there. When the opposing player backs them down or drives, they rarely jump to contest the shot. They still don't cut to the basket when they get open. Its just awful. 5. Steals!! You can't post up! Every time I post my guy up, a double team comes and they basically cut his arm off to get the ball loose. The ref never calls fouls in those cases. There is absolutely no post-up game in this game; it'll be stolen from you every time down the court. Now when the opposing team backs you down and you try to steal the ball, its impossible. You'll typically average about 26-45 turnovers a game if you have it set to 10 minute quarters. 6. Playbook - Almost all of the plays are designed for the Center or Power Forward position players. There are a few for Small Forward or Shooting Guard, however, that's it! You're much better off just running your offense normally and not running any plays, especially if your Center and Power Forward positions are defensive specialists and not scorers. Also, why post a guy up if he gets the ball taken away from him all the time? So what did EA do right in this game? Well they finally fixed the rebounding. Of course, its difficult to rebound when the other team doesn't miss, but see the above paragraphs for more on that. However, after you sacrifice a goat during the 12th moon and the other team actually misses a shot, you are able to rebound. Also, offensive rebounds are much easier than previous games. The graphics are smooth and the flow of the game is smooth and not choppy. The fact that there are fast breaks is much more refreshing, as in the previous versions fast breaks were just about impossible. So there you have it. If you want an arcade game where every shot will be a dunk, then buy this game! If you love NBA Jam, buy this game! However, unless EA puts out a few patches that will fix a lot of the AI problems, then stay far, far away!
