What our customer's say!
"A "Less Boring" Way to Pass the Time", Before you buy this game, I suggest that you download the demo (Google it)! It's well-worth finding out whether you like the controls, the graphics, and the gameplay overall. This is a suggestion you should follow before you buy any computer game because it's more than likely that they have a demo for it.
Technical Problems: The installation was basic, like most other computer game installations, and took around 5-10 minutes. It is important to note that once in a while--very rarely--the game would suddenly exit out of nowhere, but this may have been caused by other factors and not necessarily the game itself. Nevertheless, it is important to save frequently. Other than that, I experienced no other technical problems.
Gameplay: The gameplay reminded me a LOT of "The Longest Journey," a legendary adventure game that I strongly recommend you play. Syberia is the typical point-and-click adventure game, but unlike in "The Longest Journey," you cannot skip through the animation of Kate running across the screen--you actually have to watch her run from point to point, which gets very tedious and time consuming. Luckily, you can still skip through the conversations line by line by right-clicking. A lot of the puzzles are trial-and-error sort of things, where you have to play around with it until you get it right. While most puzzles were fun and not very challenging, some weren't always very logical. As a result, I had to refer to the Universal Hints site a few times. Some example tasks in the game include:
- Getting a machine or gadget to work. - Finding an item. - Finding a way into a restricted or blocked area.
Graphics: The graphics are pretty decent--they are much better than "The Longest Journey," which came out in 2000, but they are nowhere near as nice as its sequel "Dreamfall," which came out in 2006. So all in all, the graphics are mediocre--nothing ugly but not impressive either. Unfortunately, some of the characters' movements seem unrealistic and bulky, but it doesn't bother me too much. Seeing that the game came out in 2002, it is reasonable that it is no match for today's breathtaking graphics.
Storyline: The storyline is probably the weakest part of this game, which is my biggest complaint. Although I wouldn't call it typical--I mean what other game is based on a lawyer searching for the heir of a toy factory in order to close a sale?--it isn't particularly interesting. Aside from the "twist" in the very beginning--I'm not even sure if I'd call it a twist--nothing else is added to the story that really keeps you interested. And just when the game begins to get interesting and exciting, it ENDS! I don't mean that it leaves you hanging, but rather, the journey just comes to a close, and personally, I think the ending is a little ridiculous and overly dramatic because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I felt like I had been waiting for the journey to get a little more exciting--hit the good stuff--throughout the entire game and just as it was beginning to, the game was over. Though Syberia was somewhat fun to play, it was definitely not satisfying, but maybe I'm just comparing it to "The Longest Journey" (whose storyline is infinitely more interesting, exciting, and fulfilling) too much?
Characters: Another of my complaints is that there were very few characters. In Syberia, you meet only around 20 characters or less, whereas in "The Longest Journey," you meet over 50. I wouldn't have minded not meeting many characters, but I would've liked to have more characters around, even if you couldn't talk to them. As a result, the game felt very solitary and a bit boring. It was even hard to LIKE any of the characters, even Kate. Being an 18-year-old girl, it felt hard to relate to her because she's probably in her late 20's or early 30's, with a hard-to-like fiancée--she was like my 30-something-year-old cousin whom I'm not very fond of. Nonetheless, I still managed to sort of care about her towards the end and there was some good character development.
OVERVIEW
Strong points: Smooth gameplay with little to no problems, simple navigation, decent puzzles
Needs work: The storyline is weak and rather bland and there are too few, likeable characters. They should also incorporate a way to skip the animation for her running across the screen--it's pretty annoying.
My opinion: It's a good way to pass the time because the gameplay is fairly decent and entertaining, but just as it starts getting exciting, the game is over, leaving you feeling unsatisfied, though not hanging. It's a different dissatisfaction from the one that you get after you finish "Dreamfall," which simply leaves you with the worst cliffhanger possible, because at least the game itself was still gratifying in the gameplay--exciting, fun, challenging--whereas Syberia was just a less boring way of passing time. I was a little disappointed because I had heard such great things about this adventure game, but unfortunately, I'd have to say you'd better spend your money on "The Longest Journey," "Dreamfall" (if you can handle cliffhangers), and the Nancy Drew series. If you've already gone through that, and seriously need more, THEN think about Syberia.

"Great story!", Very relaxing game to play. Beautiful scenery and fun to watch when I feel like concentrating. Not a lot of action, but it never claimed to be an action game, so it doesn't matter - the art left me feeling like I was somewhere else anyways.
"One of the Best Games Ever", I have to say that Syberia and Syberia 2 are one of the best PC games ever done. I have bought it multiple times as I usually give it away to people to have them try it. I will probably be buying another copy soon. Again, best PC game ever!!!
"The people move in real slow motion.", I cannot get past the first scene because the main character moves around in real slow motion. It's terrible. It takes her a minute to "run" across the room which is not very big at all.
I don't know what's wrong with this game but I know it's not my computer. There are 3 different ways to install it and I've tried all 3. I tried changing the setting and everything. I cannot get it to play right. I would not recommend this game.
"One of the best half-games you'll ever play", The title of my review says it all. The game is beautiful, the concept is interesting, there's decent character development, and the puzzles aren't insanely difficult (I've had a harder time with some of the Nancy Drew games). But, just as you're really getting into the story and starting to get excited about what happens next, BANG! Done. Just done. The last couple of chapters really get one hooked on the idea of figuring it all out, too bad it's over so abruptly. My husband and I actually said "What?!?!? No way!!!" when the credits came on the screen. And then we sat dumbfounded and watched the credits, just in case, but to no avail.
I still give it 3 overall stars because it was good while it lasted, and worth playing.I have not yet played Syberia 2, so I don't know how well they fit together. But you may want to keep the second one close so when the first game ends, it's not such a frustrating shock.

"A major disappointment", The Broken Sword series marked my entry into the adventure game genre, for as a mostly console gamer, I ignored a large number of classic PC titles. Those games, and The Longest Journey got me hooked, and so I thought I'd check out Syberia which seemed to offer much of the same formula.
But that common formula of obscure puzzles and pre-rendered backgrounds was about all that Syberia had shared with those classics. The game's plot - which in all adventure games is the make-or-break factor - is completely underwhelming. Perhaps it is unfair to compare Syberia to Broken Sword or TLJ instead of evaluating it independently, but there is really very little substance to this game no matter how you look at it.
In fact, it is only by virtue of a storyline that adventure games' often frustrating mechanics and obscure puzzle solutions are even tolerable. Without a story, an adventure game - much like Syberia - is quite unfulfilling.
"Syberia", All I can say is that this WONDERFUL game plays out like a movie or book, you get really involved in the story, the graphics are wonderful! This was my first adventure game, and I have found no others since that I enjoyed as much as Syberia and Syberia II. The puzzles are tricky enough, but not so difficult that you end up getting frustrated and quitting - Also, the puzzles are pretty logical, as opposed to puzzles in Myst where sometimes you never can figure out the logic. Please try this game, you won't be disappointed!
"One of the Best Games I've ever played", I don't know where to begin. The best adventure games I've ever played are Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Myst, Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within, and Syberia. I'd give this game more than 5 stars if I could. The storytelling is superb and engaging. You'll fall in love with Kate and Oscar and be so sad when the game is over. There's probably more spoken dialog in here than in a regular movie. A lot of the puzzles are dialog based and you just have to keep talking to people. Getting to the puzzles, this game is really easy compared to others. That was good for me, because I like to focus on the story. I'll give you one puzzle hint, there is a scene where you are told to find a lemon or a lime (I can't recall which one). You will easily find the one not asked for, and that is the one to use. Don't needlessly search around for the other. There are so many games that cloned themselves after this but fell short. Just play this one. It started it all. NOTE: Syberia I and II are one long continuous story. The developer wanted one game, but the publisher made them break it in half for time/money reasons. You have to play both games together to get the whole story. Playing just one is like watching just one of the Matrix movies. I give the Syberia series 100 stars out of 5. It is fun for all ages. A family could get together and play this.
"The Best Adventure PC Game Ever", If you like adventure games, you will absolutely LOVE Syberia. Everything about the game is amazing, from the graphics to the story line. You may even shed a tear or 2 because you will fall in love with the characters!
"Simply Incredible !!!!!", I have played some of the best and by far I cannot stop thinking of how much this adventure game meant to me. So you be the judge, these are the words it meant to me. Gorgeous, compelling and overall amazing!!!!
I would recommend this adventure to anyone with an open imagination and the patience to solve puzzles and clues. There are various walkthrough's free online if you get stuck. It took me about a week to complete the entire game playing a few hours a night and perhaps a little longer on the weekend.
Enjoy I am on to Syberia 2 and then Paradise.!!!!!!
