"Works great with Sky Caddie"
Works great with Sky Caddie. Just plugged it into my DELL Vostro and it worked right off the bat. Drivers autmatically install.

"Works like it should"
After some research it appeared the serial to usb adapters were not all equal. They vary in how much of the serial signalling protocol they support. I bought the IOGear converter to hook up my laptop to a Cisco 678 DSL router. It worked great. No problems.

"IOGEAR USB to SERIAL Adapter DOES work!"
I have two of these adapters and they DO work in XP unlike the reports of the other reviewers here.

I have one connected to a Sony EVI-D30 camera by way of a VISCA cable which connects to the back of the camera and terminates in an RS232 connector that plugs right in to the IOGEAR adapter. Plug that into a free USB slot and XP recognizes the adapter and loads drivers. The EVI-D30 control software sees the connection as a serial port (COM3) and works as it should.

The second one is attached to a Wacom Artz II graphics tablet that has a standard RS232 serial connector. Again, attach the IOGEAR adapter to the Wacom connector, plug it into a free USB slot and it's recognized in XP.

So there may be a driver issue for the other reviewers or they have not updated XP with the latest and greatest updates. This IOGEAR USB to SERIAL adapter has worked perfectly for me right out of the box.

I guess your mileage may vary, but this product definitely DOES work in XP and has been foolproof for me so far.

"IOGEAR USB to Serial Poor Choice for Thinkpad T43p"
I *had* good success with this device on my older Dell Latitude laptop. However, under Windows XP on my newer Thinkpad T43p this device can be "flakey", depending upon exactly what you are doing with it.

In particular, at 115,200 baud using Zmodem, the device tends to "retry" packets, and sometimes fail completely. Other times it has yielded a Windows "blue screen", causing the PC to reboot. This behavior is not restricted to port COM1/COM2 (i.e., "renaming" the default serial port or not makes no difference in the bad behavior).

I've tried many other "no-name" USB-to-serial dongles, including a number that use the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm port driver, and all tend to give similar bad behavior, especially with high-speed Zmodem transfers to an embedded Linux system.

The only exception so far has been the Keyspan USA-19HS, which has been flawless with the Thinkpad T43p under all conditions. It includes the ability to configure (and self-test) the USB device, allowing one to "tune" the serial port transfer parameters to maximize throughput. It also has much larger FIFO queues...also configurable. It's only drawback is its package size, which is much larger than dictated by the electronics it encloses.

These things are designed to emulate "legacy" PC serial ports...but not all of them are up to that task...and clearly this is one of them!

"Iogear USB Adapter for SRS RGA"
We purchsed this USB to serial adapter per Stanford Research Systems recommendation. Our goal was to operate two(2) Residual Gas Analyzers (RGA's) using only one computer and usually most computers only have a single serial port but at least two or more USB ports. Upon initial installation the system had sporadic performance which included numerous error messages and incomplete scans of the gas spectra. Installing the correct driver from Iogear's website was the ticket for the goal and performance we needed to acheive. All error messages are gone and full 100 and 200 AMU scans are complete and pretty accurate.

What our customer's say!

"Do not buy this for a Mac OSX computer", Do not buy this for your Mac OSX computer.

I needed to sync my old Palm V with my new MacBook Pro, and I had a choice between this IOGear serial-to-USB converter or a Keyspan device which was $5 more. I bought this first, and after hours on the phone and online with combinations of IOGear, Palm, and finally in-peson with Apple people, I determined that the driver was just not working with MAC OSX.

After returning this device and purchasing a Keyspan one, I am happily using my Keyspan USA19HS.

"Don't put more than one IOGEAR GUC232A on a system", I have spent hours and hours testing these devices. They work fine under most circumstances. They are low power devices as explained in a review by somebody else. Put one of them on a computer and as long as the electrical ground is good between the computer and the device sending and/or receiving the data, they work flawlessly. Also, they have problems with long cable runs. If you put two or more on a computer, you can be assured that your system will crash as soon as you start sending large amounts of data through both devices. You system will crash even if the data are not sent simultaneously.

Oh yes, forget support from IOGEAR. You will either get a non-answer or no answer.

"Great with Vista! Cisco Compatible!!!", I bought this device in hopes that it would emulate as a serial port and work with Cisco Rollover Cables. It works! I can hyperterminal as COM8 or COM9 and make changes on various Cisco switches. Used it all day at work and did not have a problem.

I don't believe in using the CD media provided. I downloaded from the website and did not have one problem installing drivers.

I have also read that it works for OS X to do Cisco work. So happy it works. I wish laptops still had Serial Ports installed on them.

"Works with Modems", This adapter is is the US version of the ATEN adapter, UC232A. Same adapter just a different label. I have used this adapter to connect to modems on Windows, 2000, XP, and Vista computers. It is the only VISTA compatible adapter that actually works on VISTA (that I have tested). Unfortunately the VISTA driver does not come on the CD. You will need to download the driver from IO Gear's website.

The adapter also has OS X drivers but it DOES NOT function on OS X with modems. It will not work. Best to use the Keyspan running OS X.

"Works good", We bought this to replace one that we had to give to my brother. It is overpriced but works fine

"Easy driver download from Iogear for all Windows versions", I'm using this adapter with a Garmin GPS unit. The cable itself is very nicely made. Not as clunky looking as its photo. The packaging says (in print a little too small) to download Vista drivers from the website. Their zip file creates a subfolder for each version of Windows. Really nicely done. The drivers work quite well and are flexible enough to recognize a new USB port if the plug is moved.

"Try another adapter if you have an Apple computer", I bought this to hook up an old Wacom tablet, but this device didn't work with my G5 Intel core duo mac running Tiger OS. The tech department at IOGear couldn't help me regarding Apple support. I had success with a Keyspan adapter I bought after returning this product.

"Works wonderfully", This product works for what I needed it for. I have a PB CPAP machine and needed a serial port to download the data. I keep it connected to the phone cord and plug it in to the USB port when needed. No problems.

"Great product!", I use this product daily on IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads and it works great - no drivers required. I was using it minutes after cracking the package open. Who needs the CD? Not me.

"9 Pin Serial Adapter", The ordering of this product was very simple. I received the order within 6 days and it was exactly what I needed.
