Others say..."Great design software"I have used this program for almost a year and find it the easiest program I own to create a variety of print projects. I also have Microsoft's Office Suite Professional version which includes Publisher, etc. I can't do nearly as many creative things with that extraordinarily expensive suite of programs as I can with The Print Shop. Try designing a greeting card as an example. In most programs you are limited to the format of the particular template, whether quarter fold or half fold. In Publisher I had to design my own template to do a top fold half fold card. Moving graphics or text in Publisher or Word is a nightmare of formatting, etc. In The Print Shop, I can place anything I want in any position I want. I can rotate text or images any direction I like. In addition, if the many images that come with the program are not enough, you can simply go to the Microsoft clip art page online and either copy/paste any clip you like or just drag any clip right into The Print Shop project you are working on. Not many other programs are that easy to get along with. I don't use it to do my photo editing and I don't believe it is marketed as a photo editing program. However, there are some effects that can be applied to photos that I don't know where else I could find. This program, for a few dollars, has put hundreds of dollars of software on my computer out to pasture. It really does it all and does it well. Worth many times the price they charge. "great for some, not for others"Even though there were a lot of negative reviews I bought this product mostly because PC Magazine rated it one of the best (5 stars) and the price can't be beat with the discounts. Here's my take if you read the other reviews like I did. This program tries to make it easy to start a project (with a walk through wizard) but with any publishing software, you have to know what you are doing. That includes understanding your printer settings, etc. Yes, printer settings can be changed with the program (as with most any software) so it will take some time for inexperienced users to understand how to use it properly. I must say, this program offers a ton of nice clip art, photos, etc than most other programs in this class. It has 2 CD's full of clipart but you'll need a lot of disk space to install it all. The broadband version of PrintShop accesses the clipart from the internet but with big hard drives available these days, save yourself some headache and buy the regular software, not the broadband one. If you don't have a lot of harddrive space (a few gigs to spare) I wouldn't suggest buying this. There is no user manual included and the help files are not as in depth as I would like. I find it hard to believe that a complicated program such as this does not have at least a printable copy of a user manual. So be warned, if you not an experienced software user this product might not be for you. I also saw some negative reviews on photo editing/printing. I haven't tried it so I can't compare. (I use other software for photo editing and printing). There are a lot of great photo editing software packages available. If you're purchasing this for that reason, you might want to look somewhere else. This thing is for printing out greeting cards, postcards, and things of that nature. I guess you can be thankful that there is photo editing features with this at all. Final take - For someone who has used software since they were young and does for a living, I could figure most things out on my own. If you are inexperienced, you may find this product frustrating. But for the price, you get a lot of nice clipart and wizards to help for most basic home desktop publishing needs (greeting cards, postcards, calendars, etc).
"Very passable for what it is....." Anyone buying this product with the idea of competing with higher end products (Photoshop, Coreldraw, etc..) will be bitterly dissapointed. If you buy it for relatively simple graphics applications you will love it. I do all our company's fliers, memos, and counter stands with this program. It is quick, it's easy, and I don't have to spend a great amount of time to get simple projects done. I use this in conjunction with the Works Portfolio and have had great success. It is also really nice to be able to "save as" in .pdf format. Good Job Broderbund!
"Not a lot of bang for the buck" I have previous versions of the Print Shop and thought it was good. I purchased PrintShop Deluxe on DVD, Ver. 15 because I couldn't get my old program to work on my new computer with WinXP. The new version seems to rely only on its built in graphics, photos and templates. There are not a lot of tools to do your own thing. I also had immediate problems with the software in scrolling through the fonts -- the program freezes. This is apparently a well-known problem to Broderbund as their "fix" on the web page is to delete several of the fonts. When I asked why (through their customer service site) there was no fix and they thought it was acceptable to delete fonts, they blamed it on XP and then invited me to buy their newest version. I guess I thought that's what I was doing when I was at CompUSA. Now I know...they keep the old [stuff] out there until it's sold out.
"Overrides you printer's settings!" I installed this without any problems on my XP run system. Tried printing envelopes on my brand new Canon i950 ink jet. The Print Shop overrides your printer's settings, so I had to keep the printer set on "Paper" mode, but there's a lever in the printer carriage that must be changed when printing envelopes. If it this doesn't match what the software settings are, it won't print! I tried going along with the settings recommended by The Print Shop, and didn't switch the carriage to "envelope" mode, and the ink came out in splotches. It also prints about 2 inches down into the envelope, so if you want to add borders or art in the corners, it ain't happening. I didn't have this problem with Works. According to the self help section on the Broderbund website, this margin is not the fault of the software, but is a printer problem. I called Canon (who answered immediately and were very helpful BTW), and I determined that I was setting the printer correctly according to Canon's instructions. The problem goes back to the fact that The Print Shop overrides your printer's settings. The link to the website in the software works intermittently, and I'm using a broadband connection and it's always on. Sometimes I click on it and nothing happens. So, I've uninstalled it and I'm sending it back to Broderbund this week (they have a 90 day money back guarantee). What a hassle!

What our customer's say!
"Good Software", I'm very thankful for this product because it works with my HP PSC 2175 printer whereas a recent version of Print Master Gold and I believe it was Print Workshop that I tried which did not. The features are great and making cards, banners, and calendars that I have tried is easy. It might be nice if the graphics choosing window could display clipart a bit larger at times so one wouldn't have to waste time previewing individual clipart images he may or may not want, and it might be nice if the program would not have "lost" my projects when I moved the projects folder, but most won't run into that little difficulty. Overall this is a great package, especially comparing it to the version 5 I have from years ago and to the two other programs mentioned above.
"Missing Feature To Do "BORDERS*", Having used Print Shop since Version 3 was out, I am very pleased for the most part with their software. Believe I get plenty of 'bang' for a small buck. Made weird discovery just tonight -- I cannot locate the "borders" function. The icon on the left toolbar should read frames and borders. I only have 'frames'. Have email support to see what's up. Have a feeling that it is due to Win XP and one or both of the service packs I've installed. If anyone has had this problem and solved it would enjoy an email. Thanks. Patsy926@comcast.net
"Why can't I see what I am working on?????", I have used Print Shop Deluxe products for years with no problems. I had an older version on my computer but purchased this when I got my new computer with XP and no longer had the installation disk for the other version. I have to click on the print preview button to see what I am working on otherwise all I see is a blank piece of paper in front of me. I have tried the "so called" web troubleshooter but no one else seems to have the same complaint. Maybe these newer programs just run that way. I also downloaded a free trial of Print Master 15 and had the same problem. I would love some actual help with this but can't seem to find it so the program is going back!!!!!
"After 15 versions, you'd think they'd get it right!", Good old Print Shop! I have a love/hate relationship with it. On the one hand, it is the greatest thing going for arranging "objects" like text boxes, photographs and other graphics on a page for producing greeting cards, signs and the like. Fifteen is the third version I have purchased, and it features a custom paper wizard, with which you are supposed to be able to create a template for unique paper sizes. First of all, there are only a few formats available upon which the wizard can work its magic. Second of all, it doesn't work very well. I wasted HOURS trying to get some cards printed without having the objects print crazily off the edge of the paper. All I succeeded in doing was to mess up the standard half fold card template, after which it was trial and error and a lot of wasted paper before I got a card presentable enough to send. As long as you aren't too creative, The Print Shop is a useful workhorse of a tool for home printing.
"RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN", I bought this product to help with my scrapbooking projects. I used it for only the most simple layouts and had nothing but trouble. IT IS EXTREMELY SLOW AND CUMBERSOME. I wouldn't give this product to my ex-mother-inlaw. The clip art is cheezy and trite. Forget trying to import a graphic. Forget trying to shut down the product...you'll go mad waiting! IF you value your sanity...DO NOT BUY this product
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy..."I am just thrilled with The Print Shop Deluxe 15!", I bought this software last week (got a great deal on it) and I absolutely love it. I've read alot of poor reviews on this site but despite that I decided to try it anyway. I'm am so glad that I did. I had no problems with installation & have had no problems at all using it. There are so many things you can do with this program & so many graphics to pick from. This is the only program you will need to do projects with. I like the fact that you can customize the label size so you can do anything that you want to. This program is so easy to use. I am no computer expert and I was able to pick up on it right away. I am also learning more each day about all of the features this program offers. If you are considering purchasing this program I would absolutely postively recommend it. "XP users Think Twice", I have installed the program completely and I when I go to choose the type of font I wish to use I recieve and error and the program shuts down and this happens over and over. The project I was trying to do...I will not be able to do it. I just blew 50.00 on a program that I cannot even get passed selecting a Font with?? Take the other reviewers advice Dont buy this! I am regretful that I did. "Most unreliable SW I've used. Should rate 0 stars.", We started with Printshop 11. We tried upgrading to 12 in the hopes it would fix some bugs and add features. It added features, but also added tons of bugs. Customer support knows nothing about the program either and has been useless. This doesn't work as advertised, doesn't print what shows on the screen, crashes very frequently, doesn't handle large projects (like calendars with lots of pictures), etc. "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY OR ENERGY ON THIS PRODUCT!", This is one piece of lousy software. There are bugs all over the place. However, my chief complaint is that it won't print correctly. What you see in print preview is NOT what you get. My biggest disappointment is with technical support. Basically, my problem was ignored and I received no help at all. I asked repeatedly if Broderbund would write a fix for my problem - my problem was never acknowledged or addressed. What little bit of feedback I did get was to suggest/indicate that I didn't know what I was doing and the problem was me. After going through all of their "suggestions/solutions" I was right back where I started and still didn't get my problem resolved. I was sent to their on-line solutions - which was not a solution. I finally gave up on technical support and on this software. I would really like a refund on this product, but will never get any satisfaction out of Broderbund. This is one of those cases in that you get what you paid for...not much! "Bad, bad, bad", This review is based on the Broadband Version but the message seems to be the same: Don't waste your time and money on this product. I have had this product 3 days and plan to uninstall today. All of the clipart has to be accessed from their website. This takes t-i-m-e. Then, the images for the thumbnails still may not be loaded onto your screen, leaving you hanging. The idea for this concept sounds good on paper, but needs a lot of work to become a reality. When I played with this at night, it was even worse as if the website was bogged down. At times the webpage could not be displayed; no graphics. If they are going to base an entire software product on accessing a website, you would think it would be much more professionally supported. Also worth noting: there is a function where you can design a greeting card and send it to their website so that the recipient gets an email with the site link and they can view it as an e-card. Another idea that sounds good but isn't. I tried this (the only project I was able to complete) and the card was so different from what I sent that it was ridiculous. Entire text was missing, a music link was missing, and a personal photo was replaced with clipart of a palm tree (?). I read the reviews here and against my instincts installed this product. I recommend looking elsewhere, especially when it comes to the broadband version of Print Shop 15 Deluxe.
