"Unreal II Revisited"
I got this game {FPS} originally when it first came out. Lots of hype. I was a solid Unreal fan. This game is completely different from the original Unreals'. It probably should have been named "Pre Halo" or something to that affect. But I thought it was great fun the second time around...using a better computer, maxed out effects and res. Its beautiful to look at and very imaginative. Lots of good weapons early on so you can plan and fight any way you like, cool alt fire modes, and a little bit of mission/puzzle solving...and at the end... a black hole gun...ooooh. Perty dang good overall. The only thing I didn't like was the all to common crappy voice acting. Emotional content was essentially ZERO. Gimme a little horror, a little fear, courage, remorse...anything... the ending is good though :)

"Not exactly "Unreal" but..."
I never liked those online tournament style games, I prefer something with a bit of a story. This one's got it all. If you found the first Unreal pretty but a bit boring, then you're in for a pleasant surprise. This one is much prettier, and has an actual story!

"Very short game."
It should never have been called unreal period. It is a decent "first person" shooter game, but was very short. If I would have paid $40.00 I'd have been very disapointed. It only took 8 - 10 hrs to beat and I'm not a pro gamer!

"Good AI and interesting missions"
I like this game. While it's true that it has nothing to do with Unreal I'm sure misnaming it was a Marketing management decision. They lied to increase sales. As such I believe if you take Unreal II The Awakening for a sci-fi fps game on its own merits you'll enjoy it.

The opponents are credible and unpredictable. The missions were interesting to me. Not just shoot, shoot & shoot. They required a little strategy and planning. Sometimes you had to place men and weapons to repel attacks or provide sniper cover to a soldier on his own mission.

The storyline could have been expanded but still the characters had distinct, fresh personalities and were not just cardboard cutouts.

An unusual ending too. Not what I expected. Don't expect 'happily ever after'. I played this game over about a week in the evenings and it was something I looked forward too.

If you want a game you can get into that provides a challenge without being impossible to the point of frustration you'll like this one.

"Meh... Coulda been done a lot better. A LOT better..."
Game had interesting weapons and amazing graphics... but I just don't understand why the game creators didn't stick with the original Unreal storyline. Unreal2 had nothing to do with the first Unreal (which is an awesome game, btw).

XMP can be a fun multiplayer... but there are hardly any working servers!

Now that this game is cheap, though, I'd buy it just for fun.

What our customer's say!

"Okay-ish FPS but fails because it isn't Unreal", In 1998 Tim Sweeney changed the face of FPS gaming forever. Unreal was released and became a major gaming hit that revolutionized fps, along with practically reinventing the game engine (the unreal engine is a very important core gaming tool behind many modern fps today). That concept was a reality thanks to Tim Sweeney spending 3 years in his garage. At the time this was the reason to buy a graphics cards like a Voodoo or a TNT and run it on your Windows 95 system.
Unreal was a deep game, lots of levels, lots of running around, lots of shooting, mindless blasting, pressing levers, going through levels that have some maze qualities, running across the same bad guys with some variations, the textures, AI and level design surprisingly still able to deliver on a satisfactory game play today. Unreal beats a lot of fps games that have since been released. It is an all-time great for those of us gamers out there who remember the end of the 90s and remember what it was like to play fps games that people would line up around the block to buy.

Unreal was not followed up directly by Unreal 2. In fact Unreal become a multiplayer called Unreal Tournament that was released in 1999. The next update was Unreal Tournament 2003.

Unreal 2 was released in 2004. It pretty much tanked for a couple of reasons. The first was that it was not a sequel to the original Unreal (that ended in a cliff hanger). Unreal 2 is a new story about a marine that travels from planet to planet picking up alien artefacts while blasting aliens. Unreal 2 has some great looking environments. There is a game here and if you have played the best FPS has to offer then Unreal 2 is worth checking out. However it is nothing like Unreal and that is a major drawback. Also it is 10 times slower than the original Unreal as your marine walks at a snail's pace about in a clunky suit. The missions are very leisurely, linear and extremely easy to beat. The game isn't a challenge but at the same time the environments are very well rendered but the story isn't very good. I found myself finishing it though because there are only so many FPS games out there.

So if you are looking for an FPS you haven't played then I would suggest replaying the original Unreal and then if you feel you must then go for this (it is usually available in Unreal box sets). All in all this game was a cut below par but did look good at times and there is a nice array of weapons to use but the spirit of Unreal is departed and what is left is something that doesn't deserve the name it has.

Pros:
Environments
Range of guns

Cons:
It is not Unreal
It is very slow
Story is not good

"My reveiw of unreal 2", Unreal 2 is a great improvement is some ways from the first one and some loses.First,Unreal 2 has a strange story line where you are supposed to find artifacts for someone(i forgot his name) but the places are to easy to beat.
The bosses are not really hard to beat with some weapons but they look hard.
I mean sure you might jump back one or two times but it isnt really scary.
The last level was way to easy to beat. Also some people might try to sell Unreal for more than what you can but it from on steam(i will show you a link to download steam, a program that can buy games).I looked the sellers and target sells Unreal 2 for $40.00 when it is only on steam for $10.00.
The reason i gave it four stars was because the game was a need to get kind of game for a person like me since i am a fan of Unreal games.

Enjoy :)

"data3.cab corruption on disc 2", I wish I could say how great this game is but I can't even install it. There are 2 discs for installation. The first disc will install without a hitch. The second disc, however, has a corrupt file on it (data3.cab) and cannot be read/copied no matter what you try. Thus, the installation will fail every time. Buyer beware about this one... not worth the headache.

"Okay.", It is pretty to look at, but falls flat when compared to the first game in the series.

"Huh... that was intresting...", After all the Multi-player versions that came out, Unreal universe is exspanded again in a new single player Adventure. This time with voice acting and facial Posing. NEAT...

Still the game even on it Hardest Settig was way to easy for me in the first run through. and was way too short for my taist. then again it was still long.

The weapons where balanced fairly well, lots of nice features. had a fairly intresting story and an intresting Slant.

Still it dissapointed me. fun but nothing really new...

"Unreal 1:Good. Unreal 2:Bad", Back in the old days when the original Unreal came out, there was nothing else I would play. The graphics (for that time) were great, the enemies were fresh and original, and there was no stupid dialogue to bore you to the extent of not wanting to play the game. And it had a wide open door for a sequel, so I was excited about this. Then along comes a digital blob of sacrelige. The graphics are fantastic, but it's not fun killing a bunch of boring space marines, and killing the Skaarj that now look like elephants crossed with a giant T-Rex. The dialogue is bad, folks, and I mean BAD. I just don't want to talk to an alien that looks like a 50's jukebox and full or radioactive semen, or a grungy mechanic who tells you who to use a pistol and smokes incessantly, or the world's greatest strategist who looks like some sort of whore. All in all, the game sucks. If they make an Unreal 3, it better be like the original: fresh, new, and exciting.

"Absolutely Brilliant", This has to be one of the best games I've ever played! Exciting, challenging, great flow, story line, etc. and as good as Halo. Expect hours of fast action entertainment with this title.

"A decent FPS...", This game is no Doom 3 or Half-Life, but the graphics are great, and the weapons and gameplay are decent. Buy used and have fun.

"An ok title", Unreal 2 is definitely a downgrade from the original Unreal.
Besides the great scenery, great graphics and game engine there isn't much to this game. The storyline lacks depth and it fails to immerse the player. If you see this title in the bargain bin then maybe you should pick it up. Otherwise I wouldn't pay the money for it. There's a lot of other great single player fps titles out there. Unreal 2 I feel that is not worth to be the successor of the Unreal franchise.

"Note to game creators.....3 WAYS TO PISS OFF FANS", #1. CHEATING YOUR FANS

As you can plainly see, Unreal 2 has nothing to do with Unreal 1. Did they just need the royalties or what?! Let's look at a previous example that attempted to toss a sharp elbow in the stomach's of fans everywhere: Check out Deus ex 1 and 2. The fans were furious; they were lured into a poor imitation of Deus ex's former self. The only people who played Deus ex 2 were the people who had previously played Deus ex 1.....which leads me to my main point....if your going to hand out a different game that does not resemble your first game - you must change the title OR the fans will have to suffer through your shoddy second attempt at cash-flow - and review your game poorly.

#2. LEVEL DESIGN..PLEASE!

The creators of Unreal 2 tried a different approach in this game. For the first two levels it worked great. Then the level design got repetitive.....ironically, the exact opposite of what Unreal 1 had to offer. This is what the fans wanted, along with just the slightest, the smallest, most insincere of efforts to mince a story together - but the creators could not pull this task off.

#3. ENEMY MUST CONFORM WITH BACKGROUND

If you look past the fact that this is not related to Unreal and that the level design is a little uninspired - this still would have made a good "scare" tactic game like Doom 3; the AI is good and so are the guns - in fact, I actually had fun fighting Skaar and the other enemies. Unfortunately, the one thing that seems to remain the same with Unreal 2 is the character animation. The enemies seem all to cartoonish and UNREAL against the background of fantastically rendered scenes. You don't plug in the same animations of Doom 2 with Doom 3 and expect good results, do you? Take a look at the "spiders" in the HELL level on Unreal 2 - pathetic.

Thanks creators, you taught me an important lesson - RESEARCH. Good luck selling Unreal 3...this time I'll check the reviews before you get off so easily.
